It would be outrageous to suggest Joni Mitchell is talentless. Clearly this isn't the case but this was an absolute sleeping pill of an album. It felt a lot longer than 36 minutes. Tolerable at times, grating at others. As a general disliker of the singer + single instrument formula, this was unlikely to be for me and it certainly wasn't.
A largely indistinct blur of reggae although not exactly unenjoyable. Somewhat soothing after The Joni Mitchell Incident.
I've always thought of R.E.M. as merely ok. I still think that. This is a 2.5 star situation but such half measures are prohibited so I will cruelly round down.
I will admit to recoiling in horror a little upon being faced with the prospect of listening to a Coldplay album. I'll also admit that A Rush Of Blood To The Head served as a reminder that early Coldplay, before they descended into full-on stadium pop rock, can be pretty good. Bonus shout out to the hypnotically pleasing animated album artwork on Apple Music.
Not quite among their best albums but still a good one and definitely a significant cut above later Metallica releases. Nothing Else Matters is a highlight.
A very easy listen. Damn solid synth pop, enjoyable from beginning to end.
Tangled Up in Blue and Hurricane aren’t present here so this is an inherently weaker Dylan album but I still mostly enjoyed it. The closing song however does not justify its 11 minute duration.
I don't think any particular tracks stood out as memorable here but whereas this might be a criticism I have leveled at other albums, here I don't mean it as one. Rather, this felt like a cohesive hour of jamming and I do like a solid jazz jam. The introduction of vocals in the final track however, is a jarring misstep.
Hey it's that one song everyone knows. I can't say I actively disliked this album but I was thoroughly bored by it.
This sounds pretty quaint today but there's still some classic driving punk stylings to be enjoyed here. A bit lyrically brain dead though.
The big hits from this album remain good and the other stuff I hadn't heard before is solid too. Corgan's vocals do grate at times when they veer into ultra whiny but generally I find them, and the album as a whole, to be very agreeable.
35 minutes of Julian Casablancas' dull droning monotone mumblings? No thanks.
