The Cars by The Cars
Jul 02 2026

Classic album full of hits. Crazy how short it is.

Paranoid by Black Sabbath
Jul 03 2026

Starts out with a couple great bangers, mixes into a song I would never have guessed was by Black Sabbath, and then songs I associate more with them/their style (that are a good example of why, while they do have some stuff I enjoy, I wouldn't necessarily say I like the band). Wouldn't listen to the full album again.

3 + 3 by The Isley Brothers
Jul 06 2026

Had no idea who the Isley Brothers were before this, though it turns out I was definitely familiar with at least Summer Breeze. Might not listen again to this album, but could see myself watching a documentary about them

The Suburbs by Arcade Fire
Jul 07 2026

I don't think I knew any of the songs but the overall vibe/sound is familiar and something I enjoy. Should try to listen to more of their work/add into my rotation.

Blue Lines by Massive Attack
Jul 08 2026

Doesn't really feel like a cohesive album. Really wide variety of styles. I looked some songs quite a bit and others weren't necessarily to my taste but not actively disliking. Could make for a good addition to a upbeat mix.

Smash by The Offspring
Jul 09 2026

Aside from the songs that got a lot of radio play and are catchy, mostly this felt like noise. Would not listen to the whole album again.

Jul 10 2026

First album in the challenge that I've never heard of the band or hadn't heard any of the songs. Nonetheless, overall pretty enjoyable. Lead singer is flat as a board, but most of the tracks are far more music oriented. I was surprised that this was 'hard punk' (?) when I looked the band up on Wikipedia - which did two things, make me feel bad for listening to it on Spotify, and also get terribly weepy. Band mates were best friends as children and while two of the three of them still get together to play music, never as Minutemen ๐Ÿ˜ญ Wouldn't what I would have called punk based purely on the music, which I liked quite a bit

Parklife by Blur
Jul 13 2026

Entirely enjoyable. No songs on this album that I already knew but the vibes were great.

1984 by Van Halen
Jul 14 2026

Truly all bangers. I can see why this regularly makes 'best albums' lists

Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon & Garfunkel
Jul 15 2026

A couple songs are a bit too hippie woo for me, but the familiar songs are absolutely classics. Maybe not entirely coherent as an album, but still an important piece of music history

Penthouse And Pavement by Heaven 17
Jul 16 2026

Literally never heard of this group before, but upon skimming their Wikipedia page, turns out they were kinda foundational to the entire synth sound of the 80s. Very funky and fun, dance-ish even if not the sort of thing you can sing along to.

The Message by Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five
Jul 17 2026

Obviously a foundational album in rap, from a group I was generally aware of but wouldn't have been able to tell you if I knew any of the music. Not something I would generally have sought out, but I enjoyed quite a bit.

Exile On Main Street by The Rolling Stones
Jul 20 2026

The beginning of this album feels a lot more Blues than I normally associate with The Stones. Not in a bad way, just interesting. Overall ok.

Queen II by Queen
Jul 21 2026

Not the album I actually thought it was. Turns out I don't actually like everything Queen has produced.

Jul 22 2026

Good reminder that I truly only like a few Nirvana songs. Trying to do this challenge 'the right way' but there are definitely a couple songs that I would otherwise have skipped because the vocals were too grating.

Tommy by The Who
Jul 23 2026

I know that this isn't really a true album but a soundtrack for the film, but I don't know that it stands on its own particularly well. Mostly because it's too long. And I'm trying to listen while working and it's not a music style that lends itself to that very well. So I gave up, because it's way too long to keep listening to something distracting me from getting shit done.

Green by R.E.M.
Jul 27 2026

Solidly enjoyable.

Thriller by Michael Jackson
Jul 28 2026

The songs on this album are a lot more musically varied than I would have expected. Not entirely sure it works as a cohesive whole, but I learned more about the range of MJ's oeuvre.

Caetano Veloso by Caetano Veloso
Jul 29 2026

Quite liked this, probably going into my 'listen at work' rotation since I don't understand Portuguese the words won't distract me

Born To Run by Bruce Springsteen
Aug 03 2026

All very solid. He is the Boss, after all.

Boston by Boston
Aug 04 2026

All cohesive all great.

Marcus Garvey by Burning Spear
Aug 05 2026

How is only Bob Marley famous when this is the exact same vibe and sound? (This is positive!)
