[3/5] alt rock. easy listening punk music. some of the slower tracks just faded past me, but get free, outtathaway, and sunshinin were enjoyable. had to listen twice to jog my memory enough to write this review. 2.5 // benefit of the doubt for being from 2002. track notes: 1. completely contradiction of 'you can't buy me love' 2. half of the song is outro 3. road rage energy 4. mash of many ideas 5. just completely giving up on everything 6. probably the best track on the album, nice and catchy 7. peacefully sat on a swing in a gentle breeze 8. i am driving in my car ahh tune 9. oak trees in the jungle now? 10. can you guess what the most common line is? 11. mary (potentially from the last song) and joseph at the inns 12. nostalgia for 1969 rock, unfortunately not 2002 rock

[4/5] jazzy rocky fusion. groovy and interesting but meandering in some places. nice blend of lots of styles. idk why the rats are hot. 3.5. track notes: 1. colombian energy initially. smooth 2. funky jam in the middle is v nice 3. very nice saxophones and build ups. wacky races 4. ringtone for the local temple crossed with studio ghibli 5. intense screaming saxophone 6. mandatory lock in to understand what’s going on

[4/5] jazzy rocky but soft. nice instrumentals, could possibly be used in the waiting room. my favourite song was peg due to the wii party aura it carries. album sounds very clean and fresh, well put together. 3.5. track notes: 1. american diner smooth soft rock 2. little bit like being called to desk number nine in the airport but they let your overweight luggage through. marimba giving theme park queue line 3. mellow melancholy in a positive way 4. i spent so long pulling my hair out listening to this, before realising the similarities with "Minigame Rules" from Wii Party. a bit of mario kart 8 as well; familiar doo doo doo. bonus foreign movie. homely? shopping channel? feeling that all will be well? 5. sly and groovy. nice piano sliding into the function 6. funky look-at-this/tip-toeing on a piano beat. not as memorable as the other tracks 7. cannot stop thinking about the roman empire

[4/5] alt electric dub rock. intriguing and feels experimental, but turned into background music the more i listened. enjoyable dubby moments feed the atmosphere well. 3.5. track notes: 1. sounds like a video game trying to teach me the controls. started with the soundtrack of a 2000s british tv show when the host visits india 2. agent 47 meandering into the job 3. analysis! kind of matrixcoded, déjà vu baseline 4. boris gardiner is much more compelling on this matter 5. choppy and exploratory 6. floating through substance city 7. swampy space meets i'm a celebrity get me out of here 8. enjoyable but feels out of place on this album? 9. rave energy? big dramatic smash at the end 10. annoying phone ringing? soundtrack? not sure 11. big open space in the long dark

[3/5] ambient funky experimental? saunter through a very short album full of ambiance but leaves me floating and feeling unresolved. only small hours caused me to feel something. 2.5. track notes: 1. an asthmatic the morning after a few too many bevvies 2. floating but so so 3. feel like i am from distant lands 4. this means something else in the current year, i can't take it seriously 5. lubby dubby 6. floating, easy listening 7. snake charming effect, one of the most interesting songs 8. this has been in my liked songs for a while. it breaks me down then starts building me up again, but leaves it unresolved at the end. nice ambiance at least

[5/5] iconic alt art rock. i appreciate the interesting melodies, experimentation, the time signature changing a lot, the emotional power, and the chilling topics. his voice grew on me after a couple of listens. despite several listens however, i found myself taking away less from this than i had expected, but that only pushed this album down to 4.5. track notes: 1. drifting in and out of consciousness. fluttering instruments 2. transition from acoustic to flamenco to distortion to pressure cooker release valve 3. glitchy space noises tingle the brain like drinking too much 7up 4. chaotic build up into distortion city 5. this song defies its title! how dare! 6. done her dirty calling out that dictatorial trim. looping beat then i get hacked at the end. 7. surprise hawking moment (actually apple but this sounds better) 8. wakey wakey it’s time for an enchanting guitar! 9. spooky and traumatising lyrics got me checking where the nearest psych ward is 10. the boogieman is singing me a lullaby. is this how it all ends? 11. not really convincing me about how glorious this day might be tbh 12. me to my mind trying to do anything

[4/5] hip hop. exuding confidence with excellent production and use of samples. unfortunately some of this album, particularly mr good bar, is painful to listen to. 3.5 // boosted for my love of the jingling baby remix and giving a benefit of the doubt for the dated songs. track notes: 1. bass city big beats bumpin. my man has bought a new stereo 2. interesting production and sample use from the start. naming people like mambo number 5. looking for baddies round the block 3. good flow but telling someone to chill may just unlock reactance 4. telling someone you won’t do the most despicable thing to them, what a rizzful gentleman and infidelity advocate. yuck. mama please knock me out 5. chaotic, feels like traffic. spitting tho 6. when the honey is gone, the bees fly away 7. sharing the mic around 8. punchy with nice scratchy mouse production. sparring with his words 9. fingers in my ears assuming this is a song about hitting my macros, your honour 10. really nice production, whole song feels so smooth 11. big diss track. but i have respect for moe dee’s sunnies tbh 12. six minutes is impressive work, big flex cool j 13. playing on the NES while being racially profiled 14. the concept of shaping babies frightens me having just watched the odyssey. smooth wind down

[3/5] prog art rock. the melodies are innovative but the higher-pitched vocals do not agree with me; an instrumental version of this album would be a fun listen. i nearly locked in a 1/5 rating after hearing the duchess but it was worth slugging it out. blues in bob minor was shockingly enjoyable. curiosity sufficiently piqued. 2.5. track notes: 1. happy-go-lucky psychedelic sheep counting 2. i am convinced this song is a wind up. my blood hurts. schrodinger's wife but wyatt is the observer. high pitched and painful 3. very nice instrumentals. the "over an ocean away" bit is warm and the most enjoyable vocals on the album 4. in the beninging there was the end. menacingly sad and spooky 5. intriguing spacey tune 6. surprise jazz moment circling me like piranhas 7. this guy has been through some serious stuff 8. moody atmosphere continues 9. piano holds it together well, nice production 10. is this rap? new kind of energy with wild lyrics. actually quite fun, but probably a marmite moment 11. all atmosphere

[4/5] spoken word folk. poetry in gravel! sounds like how the guy on the perfume ads wants to sound; i believe every word he says. this album is a haunting acceptance of the end of life and a battle with religion. track notes: 1. ready to sing hymns then the perfume ad voice comes out. hallelujah 2. marching towards the end 3. contentment and acceptance 4. spooks me out a bit listening to it knowing he died shortly after. slipping away 5. a warmer song about the importance of love 6. powerful bouzouki got me drinking olive oil and smashing plates 7. feels like a ritual. philosophical lyrics 8. violin really adds to the feeling of ending 9. damn we got the strings out and they are emotional

[4/5] desert blues. warm and comfy songs with a hypnotic aura. makes me want to buy an armchair. i appreciate much of the instrumentation and the new instruments this album unlocked for me, however, i found some of it quite repetitive, which reduced my personal enjoyment. 3.5 // it’s personal! track notes: 1. trevor phillips driving down a dirt track 2. it’s giving collaboration. kinda folky campfire energy 3. dancing down the guitar 4. shredding it. harp(?) like a ticking clock. instrumentation feels minimal but emotionally charged 5. warm milk to soothe the mind. hypnotised into contentment 6. surprise harmonica! 7. squishy rolling elastic rhythm 8. sparse open space as the cast of the film are about to enter 9. njarka popping off. like stress when there are a lot of people around me 10. wholesome reflection vibes, taking a moment 11. sounds like he is talking to the masses 12. repeating instrumental reminding me of when i’m watching a reel and drop my phone down the side of the bed 13. peacefully winding down. pondering a dialog option in a video game

[4/5] psychedelic baroque chamber pop. this is way better than i expected and that is the fault of my prejudice. the style changes up between the songs quite rapidly but remains enjoyable. production feels very beatles across the album. track notes: 1. bouncy happy beat with a girlfriend in the slammer. big shrek energy (accidentally in love / counting crows) 2. eerie effect from the vocals popping in from the back. glued together by a piano 3. it's giving beatles in instruments and vocal ideas. the distortion, double tracking, everything. 4. wobbly haunting effect. time capsule prior to climate change 5. séance of failing love 6. took too much now the angels aren't just in dreams 7. starts out like a film soundtrack with a flute. then some guys show up and start dissing a lady for being dripped out 8. telling her you like the cut of her jib. jaunty harpsichord moments 9. feels like a modern indie band who paid for a trumpet (mono). wholesome and positive 10. the transition from butcher of meat to butcher of man is haunting 11. summery lovebirds. don't know how june managed to pull daffy duck 12. bit of a change up. so much like stand by me
