1001 Albums Summary

Certainly it all sounds similar and there’s not much interesting stuff going on. But for me it does capture the essence of rock and roll in its breeziness and refusal to give a shit. Probably a 2.5 for me, but will give it a 2 (as in fairness I probably won’t be back to listen to it again).

Have always listened more to S. Pepper’s. But sitting down and listening to this (maybe for the first time as a full album), it is undeniably excellent. Some of the songs on their own are obviously objectively quite bad (yellow sub, every time), but very enjoyable in the context of an eclectic sweeping album. 4.5.

Good - enjoyed without being captivated.

Pop perfection. Snobs like Jamie will sneer. But the vocals are so smooth and it hangs together so effortlessly. The fact the result is something that is so easy-listening and accessible is to its credit, rather than being a failure. Dare I say, I prefer it to Joni.

Enjoyable but didn’t particularly grab me.

Huge first tune, rest broadly listenable. But pretty uninspiring.

Going in, I thought Iron Maiden = metal, and metal = joyless men screeching over that top of unlistenably heavy a-tonal guitar. This album cover didn’t do much to dispel that fear. So was pleasantly surprised by how fun, musical and generally enjoyable it was. Lost a star for Run to the Hills - call me a snowflake, but the lyrics were a bit much for me.

Charming. Not an album or artist I had ever heard of. But I found it simple without being simplistic and moving without being sentimental. 4 stars secured by the fact he is from Sheffield (not e.g. LA).

I listened to this in the car, and for large sections forgot it was on. Not offensive, but didn’t generate any interest from me

Am a sucker for this album - that (pseudo)-intellectual vibe and those tight harmonies.

Good first song, then very generic. Didn’t make it the whole way through.

Not sure what they were going for (Pink Floyd vibes?), but didn’t work for me

Sadly, found this dated and almost unlistenable.

Purple Haze and Wind cries Mary excellent. But not enough bangers or variety to score more than a 3 for me.
