1001 Albums Summary

Not punk so much as art rock/heavier Bob Dylan. Highlights are Gloria and Free Money

Orange Crush is a banger but the rest of the album can't keep up at that level

This sounds like elevator music or a sitcom theme song. Some funky bass on Teen Town and Havona but otherwise the synths are not helping with the "easy listening" accusations.

Man's got a voice.

Newman's distinctive voice makes most of the songs sound like I Love LA/You've Got a Friend in Me but a) those are good songs and b) God's Song stands out as beautifully melancholy.

Vocal harmonies in Band on the Run are cool. McCartney's voice is grating on me and overall it feels overly twee. Think I might prefer listening to this on a different platform with better bass.

Did not realize Abba had this in them- seems comparable to Fleetwood Mac's Rumors in terms of the context surrounding both albums. This one is a lot more melancholy and artsy than their earlier disco acts.

Kids is great, rest of the album is filler.

This would've killed if I listened to it in high school. Feels in the same context as The Visitors and Rumors but seems tonally brighter.

Getting Nick Drake vibes from Pale Blue Eyes. Murder Mystery sounds like something from their earlier albums but most of the rest seems a lot more mild/pop focused. It's not bad but it doesn't feel as groundbreaking.

I don’t have the genre familiarity to discern what is meaningful or different about this. It sounded how I would expect a generic reggae album to sound, I thought the concept of the album might lend it more energy but I didn’t get that from it. I did like when the horns sounded jazzy though.

Intro to Blister in the Sun is something I've heard dozens of times before without realizing. Very clearly the bones of indie music. Very sincere, very high school.

Ambient/art pop really scratches an itch for me.

I liked the softer ones, I'm not sure his voice holds up to some of the blues rockers.

Hot, Blue, and Righteous shows a lot more range than I anticipated from ZZ Top.

Little less ethereal than Coexistence. It's good, just not as good in comparison

It sounds like generic 90s college rock. That's not bad, but it's not great either.

Very cozy, very psychedelic. Nostalgic but with more range than I would have expected.

Rhythm section feels really barebones and simplistic. This is probably what I would have expected jazz-rock to be when I first started listening to the genre but now I'm glad it isn't. It's not bad, the sax still hits and it has some fun funk elements especially on Devil Eyes, but I'm not sure I need to listen to this again.

Atmosphere in this album is incredible, this is what a live album should sound like. Crowd goes nuts and that really adds to the experience. Less electric guitar focused than I had expected but still phenomenal
