Grace by Jeff Buckley
Sep 29 2026

His voice is expressive, beautiful, otherworldly. But this album has just never really reached me emotionally. Nothing stands out lyrically and I'm almost bored by the music at times. Even Buckley's 'Hallelujah' isn't my favourite version. I can sort of see why so many people love this album, but I'm ready to stop trying to love it myself.

Songs In The Key Of Life by Stevie Wonder
Sep 30 2026

Thrilled to draw this all-timer today. Headphones on, volume UP. What can you say? Even utterly ubiquitous tracks like Sir Duke and Isn't She Lovely still delight. Didn't think I needed to hear them ever again but when they kicked in I was totally enraptured. These songs are undeniable. An easy five stars.

Morrison Hotel by The Doors
Oct 01 2026

I haven't listened to the Doors since my teens and was pleasantly surprised to enjoy returning to them. I've never understood why people venerate Morrison as a lyricist, but his voice still gives me chills and there's plenty to enjoy in the band's blues-rock sound.

Is This It by The Strokes
Oct 02 2026

An era-defining sound that I have a lot of nostalgia for, but wow, a lot of these songs sound the same. I can't deny I had fun listening to this again though.

Frank by Amy Winehouse
Oct 03 2026

This one's not for me. Despite Winehouse's vocal talent, most of these tracks are fairly unmemorable and the album's sound just isn't my thing. Hard to believe she was only 19 when this was recorded because she already seems so jaded here. Poor kid.

Rain Dogs by Tom Waits
Oct 04 2026

Loved this - transportive, rich, and cohesive yet varied.

Disintegration by The Cure
Oct 06 2026

Cool, moody, synthy sound that outstays its welcome

To Pimp A Butterfly by Kendrick Lamar
Oct 07 2026

This album gets better on every listen. Immaculate.

Stand! by Sly & The Family Stone
Oct 08 2026
Dookie by Green Day
Oct 09 2026

Loved this in my teens and still have a lot of affection for it. It's around 3.5 stars for me I think- there are some fairly forgettable tracks in alongside the fun, catchy ones I remember so fondly.

Surrealistic Pillow by Jefferson Airplane
Oct 12 2026

Hard to believe this album came from a band that would later inflict We Built This City on an unsuspecting world.

Moss Side Story by Barry Adamson
Oct 15 2026

I was dreading this but it made for pretty interesting listening. It's really atmospheric. I will probably never listen to it again.

Tidal by Fiona Apple
Oct 17 2026

This one goes on the growing pile of albums I admire but don't love.

Irritating.

Devil Without A Cause by Kid Rock
Oct 22 2026

This is only my 25th album generated and I suppose it's useful to establish a quality floor early on. This is the worst album I've ever listened to the whole way through. The first two tracks have a certain tacky charm but it's all downhill from there. When I'd started to become inured to all the embarrassing faux rap posturing, the tonal shift of 'Only God Knows Why' kicked in to startle me into fresh suffering. The lyrics were so bad they made me laugh out loud a couple of times. Couldn't even take this mess seriously enough to be offended by the misogyny, although I certainly noticed it.

Come Away With Me by Norah Jones
Oct 23 2026

Sometimes I give an album three stars because I recognise it's absolutely brilliant but it's not to my taste. This one, however, gets three stars because it's absolutely fine. Norah Jones has a beautiful voice. There were no tracks I loved and none I hated.

Electric Warrior by T. Rex
Oct 26 2026

More varied than I expected thanks to pleasant surprises like the skiffle sound of Jeepster and the string arrangement on Cosmic Dancer. Get It On is simply magnificent, but I already knew that. Of the tracks that were new to me, my favourite is probably Life's A Gas. I'd happily listen through the whole album again some time, but probably while doing something else rather than with the full attention I gave it today.

Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots by The Flaming Lips
Oct 27 2026

I quite liked this album in my teens. I still like many aspects of the music but I've really soured on Wayne Coyne's vocals. I find myself trying to listen past his voice.

Nebraska by Bruce Springsteen
Oct 28 2026

This is great. The sparseness of the recordings works well for the desolate characters Springsteen gives voice on this album.
