Whe I read that it was the band from The Witcher's bard actor, I was a little skeptical, but the first song really impressed me. Overall I enjoyed this album, a lot of really intense moments, but I was left underwhelmed by some of the more softer and acoustic passages. Still a fun listen, great suggestion. 7/10
Although not my favourite from him (I prefer Dawn FM), it was the first time that I was really impressed by a Weeknd LP. Obviously, Blinding Lights is a huge selling point. Not the most original suggestion considering how popular the guy is, but still a solid album. 7.5/10
This is not a genre of music I would listen often. It is like eating a bagfull of ultra sweet candies in one sitting. But sometimes I am in the mood for a bagfull of ultra sweet candies. Even though this is not the kind of music that will please everyone, it is a fun album and I think that everyone who hates it is probably lame at parties. This is probably one of the best hyperpop albums there is. I really like the mix of various inluence as well. 8/10
I never was a fan or a hater of Bon Iver, I like some of his songs, but I thought this album was a chore to listen to. It tries so hard, but it misses the mark by a long shot. The production is terrible, the overuse of autotune is tiresome, most of the songs sound like they were composed and recorded in one sitting. I got to give him that he tried something different, but it just does not resonate with me at all. 3/10
From the get-go I thought this album started pretty strong. I was automatically hooked and was pleasantly surprised for a genre that I generally don't listen much. But the more the album went on, the more I thought it was the same and at the end I was glad it was over. Not a bad album at all and I can for sure see what the submitter hears in it, but I think it would have been better if it was a bit shorter. 7/10
Not a terrible album, but as I was listenning to it I was kind of forgetting it was even playing. It sounds like a lot of other albums of the same genre/period, but it lacks a bit of edge. A fun time, but not much else. 6/10

Not by most enjoyed style of music, so I am biased here, but I still really enjoyed this album (which I guess means something about its quality). Production is impeccable. It has a variety of sounds that keeps it interesting. I still thought it was a bit too long. 7.5/10
I have to admit that there will be a huge bias on my end with that album. I don't think it is one of the best metal albums of all time, but it was an essential in my discovery of the whole genre. Still today, I think it is the best KE album and one of the top melodic metalcore/NWOAHM out there. 8/10
I have my reserve about this kind of indie rock. I think there was such a saturation of that style that I rapidly got bored with it. That being said, I totally understand the critical acclaim this album got. It has a nice dynamic range and the musicianship is great. I think the original list would have benefitted by having this album instead of a third Arcade Fire album. 7.5/10
I enjoyed this album, but not as much as the other FTM from the original list. I am not the biggest fan of that band, but I have a feeling the debate between the two albums is the equivalent of Ride the Lightening VS Master of Puppet. Still, they are one of the rare band that mixes rap and metal well. 7.5/10
Another album that while I didn't 100% enjoyed, I am still really glad I listened to it. I get why they have such a buzz in the brother lo-fi scene. Also really enjoyed the humour on the lyrics. 7/10
I don't know if it was the same elsewhere, but in Canada, you could not get away from her when the album dropped. Everytime you would turn on the radio, either "That Don't Impress Me Much" or "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!" would be on the air. I think it really bored me of her. Unfortunately, listening to the whole album did not change my mind. The songs I already knew were still as ok as before and most of the deeper cuts didn't do much more. I just can't with that commercial mix of pop, country and rock. 3/10
Seeing the overall score and the critical reception, I feel like I really am missing something with this one. To me it was hard to go through. I did not enjoy the modern, NY style, take on the Eurydice/Orpheus myth. I don't know why but I just thought the execution was a bit cringe. Musically, this album is all over the place. It tried so hard to incorporate so many genres together, but most of the time it mixed like oil and water. A lot of the singing was ok at best and grating at worst. Still I respect the artistic risk taken. It's an album way more daring than what a lot of mainstream artists care to try. 4/10
I am not the biggest punk guy but I had fun with this album. I felt like I would have love it way more if I was from Australia. As the Wikipedia page mentions, it is filled with Australian references and too much of the time I could not relate too much to the lyrics. Still, I always enjoy this kind of short, straight-forward, well executed, raw punk. Listening to it in the winter made me long for the warmth of the summer. 7.5/10
I heard about this guy but never had the opportunity to listen to his music. I can see why it can be a polarizing album, but I was pleasantly surprised. This album is a mood. It made me feel so relaxed and calmed. This is clearly something I will go back to. 8.5/10

Sorry but I just don't get the appeal of this band. I've heard their music before because one my friend is a big fan, but everytime I tried to check them out, but everytime I stopped after hearing a couple of songs. This is the first time I actually listened to a full album and it felt like a drag. It is so toothless, so safe, so unconsequential. This music is the equivalent of a lava lamp . Not just because it is the same kind of "psychedelic", its sound is also alike : pretty at first, but it soon because redondant and uninteresting. On top of that the mixing is so unbalanced. 3/10
I don't know if it has much to do with the quality of the music or with this particular style, but this album did not resonate with me much. I just thought it was a bit akward. Not bad, but I was kind of forgetting it was playing. 4/10
Not my favourite Marillion album (I prefer their two firsts), but I think it is cool that someone gave them a shout out. Still, there is a couple of great songs on there, but to me it is a bit inconsistant. 7/10
I think that at this point there is not much more to be said about KGATLW, since they are so talked about in music circles. The main reason I don't listen to them is because they have such an immense catalogue, that it is overwhelming to go through. They have some incredible songs, but overall, their music always feel a bit samey to me (yes even considering how versatile they are). This album is pretty much what I expected. I liked some songs, thought others were ok, overall liked it. However it is not a band that I will often go back to and this album does not change that. 7/10
Wow, this is the kind of albums I am here for. I did not know of these guys before and I am glad someone introduced them to me. This hits the same spot a Chat Pile would do. I really enjoy the gnarly, raw, noisy post punk vibes of this album. It is a weird bland of ugly yet catchy music. I especially enjoyed the more abrasive passages. Definitely got to check the rest of their stuff. 9/10

To any people outside from Quebec that liked this, I really recommend checking other records of his, especially "Les Insomniaques S'amusent" and "Quare Saisons Dans Le Désordre". Otherwise if you are curious about listening other local beloved artists check out Harmonium, Les Colocs or Les Cowboys Fringants.
My favourite album of all time. The only reason I did not submitted this album was that there were already other Pink Floyd albums, but I am so glad someone else choose it.
I remember when I discovered ska punk, it felt like I was hearing it everywhere. I remember going to a punk/metal festival and there were so many ska bands that I grew real tired of hearing trombones and trumpets. I basically snubbed this genre since then. So I was really apprehensive when I got this album.
I was however really pleasantly surprised. This album reminded me that in all genres, you have the classics that you need to respect despite all the cheap unoriginal bands that try too hard. This album is so dynamic. It has the perfect balance of the raw punk energy mixed with the great intensity of your typical ska brass. This is the kind of album that makes you realize why this combination of genres can work so well. Even thought there were some weaker moments, I thank the person who submitted this. 8/10
Never heard of that band before nor any of the songs on that album. Apparently there are singles that got kind of big ? They clearly did not reach the radios where I live. I felt like I did not miss on anything though. It sounded so bland, nothing hooked me. Not much more to say. 4/10
This is really not my kind of pop, but I have to respect the princess. You can easily hear her influences, but it does not sound like a cheap rip off either. Pink Pony Club is a banger and I get why so many people like that song. My biggest complaint is that this album just came out and it got a lot of attention right out of the gate, so a bit disappointing to get this suggestion (it will not hinder the score though). 7/10
As much as I love Redbone, I always thought that this album and Childish Gambino in general is kind of overrated. Yes I absolutely love This Is America, but this is the problem : how is this guy not able to keep making bangers of this quality. Still I revisited "Awaken my love" for the sake of this list. My sentiments did not really change. I don't think it's bad, it has a nice mood and it flows almost like a concept album. Yet I find that there are a lot of weaker moments that almost bore me. It is like Glover has some really good ideas, but is not able to fully flesh them out. I still respect the hell out of a guy that has so many artistic capabilities. 6/10
I heard of the band but always forgot checking them out. I was not disappointed. This is some super solid post-hardcore. I would not go as far as to say it blew me away, but it is definitely one the most solid albums I've heard in this genre. I need to check their other albums. 8.5/10
Clearly one of the best (if not the best) Charli XCX album, no big complaints on that one. My only issue is that it just came out and I feel like it was everywhere, the whole music sphere was talking about it, so I was a tad disappointed to have that album suggested. 8.5/10
I've known about Bob Seger for a while and having that album suggested made me realize that I never listened to the whole thing. I am glad I did, but I don't think I'll come back to it often. I still think that the singles are bangers, but otherwise I didn't get hooked too much on the rest of the album. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that this type of root/heartlead/roadhouse rock never really hit with me. Still I think it is a great addition to the list. 7/10

I knew about the Chromatics for a while because of the movie Drive. Somehow I never got to listen one of their album so I was looking forward to it.
Unfortunately, it bored me to no end. It felt so one dimensional. I like more dreamy music, but this was so safe, so unimaginative, no edge whatsoever, how can I dream on that. Plus that Kate Bush cover was one of the worse cover I have ever heard. They took an incredible song and made it one of the most uninteresting and unbothered interpretation possible. Overall it was not the worst album of all time, but just so uninteresting. 3/10
This was a really good reggae album. I am surprised I never heard of it before seeing how it is solid and that I've heard of Lee Scratch Perry before. I really loved the heavy dub influence on the album. A couple of moments that I thought were a bit weaker, but overall something I will definitely go back to. 8.5/10
I am far from being the most familiar with The National, but I know enough to be aware that this is often considered their best album by a lot of the "true fans". Honestly, after listening to it, I feel like it is more deserving of a spot in the original list than High Violet. However, I don't think it is a perfect record either. It is good but it is a bit too much your stereotypical 2000's indie rock record. What sets it appart is the more prevalent post-punk influences, which I enjoyed. 6.5/10

I have a complicated relationship with Steven Wilson (and Porcupine Tree for that matter). One the one hand, I love his work as a producer. I think he brings a lot of original ideas with his solo project and with PT. There are songs from both catalogs that I love and I think they have a unique sound that seperates them from their contemporaries. However, my issue is that I never heard an album that I loved from front to back. There are often passages that feels to me as "prog jerk off". This album si no exception. Although I enjoyed much of it, it felt a bit tired and too long. Still glad that an album from him was suggested here. 6/10
I never heard of this band before and, unlike some in here, I was not even aware of their "big single". I don't feel like this was missing in my life. This album is all over the place and there is no consistancy. It sounds like they don't know what they are trying to be. Much of the tracks sound like the musical equivalent of painting by numbers. 2/10
YES ! Honestly the alt/funk rock/metal representation in the original list is terrible, and I am saying this as someone who is not even the biggest fan of the genre. We didn't need two Jane's Addiction (not even one in fact), we could have had a Primus instead.
I am glad that someone suggested this one. Even though I am more of a Frizzle Fry guy, this band is a must listen as they are one of the most unique act that came out of the 90s. The musicianship is out of this world. Every member is so proficient in their respective instrument, but Les Claypool is one of the best bassist ever. It is even more impressive that the guy can sing at the same time considering the complecity of the rhythms. 9/10
Only knew the band by name, but I am glad I got to listen to one of their albums. This is some really good post punk revival. The kind that faithfully pays homage to the pioneers without sounding like a straight ripoff (like Greeta Van Fleet is to Led Zep). It is not a record that blew me away or that I find perfect, but the compositions are generally solid and the production is great. 8/10
I loved her voice and the crispiness of the guitar. I also love how this felt really emotional and thoughtful. My main issue is that I think the album stretches out a little bit too much and by the end of it I was getting a bit tired. There are not a lot of bad moments per se, but some songs could have been a bit shorter or could have been as extra on a deluxe version. Super clean production as well. 8/10
This was a fun arena rock album, but not much more than that. The singles were good, but the rest of the songs felt like fillers. The kind of album I would not mind someone putting on at a BBQ or any other similar gatherings. 6/10
Never heard of the band nor of this album and, not gonna lie, I was apprehensive when I saw that cover.
But this album absolutely blew me away. This is the kind of hidden gem that I wanted to discover by starting this project. This kind of weird prog rock is, in my opinion, hard to execute well and The Cardiacs knoked it out of the park with this album. I feel like this band was a huge influence on Between the Buried and Me (otherwise they ought to listen to them). Even though it is 1h30, I never got tired of it. They constantly kept me on my toes. The compositions are insane, the production is super good, it is fun, energetic, abrasive, weird, all in a good way. Not an album I could listen to everyday of the week, but this is already in my Discogs wishlist. Thank you for introducing me to this, this is incredible. 9/10
It is such a shame that MF Doom does not have any album on the original list. There are so many hip hop albums that could be skipped to make some place for this genius. The kind of omission that makes the author of the book lose some credibility...
I feel like the safe MF Doom pick is Madvillainy, but I think I prefer this one. The samples are super well used, the production is incredible, the rapping is flawless. The skits really create an ambience that makes this album feel like a whole art piece with an intentional flow, not just a bunch of songs that happen to be gathered on the same album. 9/10
This is some nice indie rock. I loved the fact that they can fit so many different influences in their music, more than a lot of their contemporaries anyway. Even thought sometimes they wear their influences on their sleeve a little bit too much (for instance, sometimes it sounded a little bit too much Radiohead). The production is also really good. However, as a whole, I did not get much out of it. It is far from being bad, but it is a bit too safe for my taste. 7/10
I always liked some blink-182, but mainly their hits. I never liked them enough to listen to a whole album. I was a bit apprehensive of this one as I am not a big fan of most its singles (appart from I Miss You, and even then it's not their best).
Unfortunately I ended up not liking most of the album. I largely prefer their straight forward pop punk style. I respect the artistic risk they wanted to take on the album. They clearly wanted to make a more fleshed out record, however the compositions are often weak and unoriginal. Another issue I have is that some of the songs are too long for their own good. As I said, I respect they dared to try something else and to be honest I think it is well produced, but I feel this was not the best first blink record to listen front to back. 5/10
A true ska punk classic. It was my first introduction to the genre. One of my friends just discovered them at the time and was playing Santeria all the time.
There are some tracks here and there that I find a bit underwhelming, but overall I love this album. I love the blend of styles, the energy, the lyricism of Brad Nowell (even though some of it did not age well). So many classics on it and it flows so well. More deserving of a spot than a lot of what is on the original list in my opinion. 8/10
This was not a bad album, but not something that I was a big fan of. As many others pointed out, the Springsteen influences are a bit too obvious. Same thing with the Mountain Goats influences. I was also not enamoured with the vocals. Otherwise I think that there was great musicianship and the songwriting was respectable, but at the same time, the songs were not memorable. 6/10
I am really glad I listened to this album, and RIP to the artist. I enjoyed the blend of aboriginal sounds with a more classical music influence. This made for a record way more unique than a lot of what I had so far in this list. However, I thought it was a bit too samey all the way through. The production was super good though. Not much more to say, good project, but not my favourite. 6/10
I thought I never heard of that artist before, then I realized he scored some movies I saw. Which made me apprehensive about this record, since I feel that most of the time, movie OST rarely stand greatly on their own. This was also a score apparently, but for a play.
Unfortunately, it ended up having the same issues I have with most movie OST. As in, you can hear that it was meant to support a visual medium. It is too slow, too "in the background". It is not a bad score, but to me, listening to this is the equivalent of watching an actor reenact lines from a movie they appear in. The main reason I won't rate this highly has not much to do with its qualities as a score, but as an ALBUM I needed to hear before I die. I would rather watch the play, with the music accompanying it. 5/10

I knew about Igorrr for a while, but it's only recently that I started listening to his music. I thought it was kind of funny that someone would suggest this album and I find it even funnier that is still so polarizing.
Personally, I think what he does is cool. I am not blown away by his style, but one thing you cannot say is that it is not unique. The blend of metal/electro/opera/classical/industrial is not something you hear everywhere. The music keeps you on your toes, the way it can do a 180 in style without warning. I think there are some weaker moments here and there (the softer ones especially), but overall it is super fun. Also, the production is impeccable ; it sounds so crisp. 7.5/10
The first time I heard about Hellyeah was when they were at a metal festival I went to one summer. The only thing I knew about them was that it had Vinnie Paul and Mudvayne's singer in it. I remember at the time that I was pretty disappointed in how boring it was, considering it was a supergroup, and I was just looking forward for their set to end.
When I saw that album being suggested, I could not help but roll my eyes. Still, I gave it its chance. From the get go I was appalled by how horrible it sounded. With a lineup like that I honestly don't understand how they were not able to have a better sound engineer to master this. At least there was a bit of drive and catchiness in the first song. Second song started and I was laughing at how cringe the soft intro was. From there the album only got worse. Just so uninspired, so cliché, so generic. The most run of the mill, chugging, alt metal riff possible. The lyrics read like they were written by an angry teenager trying too hard to look tough, not by some grown ass men. The metal representation in the original list is lacklustre and this album certainly does not help the cause of the genre. It is 5FDP's unloved redneck cousin. Sorry for being this harsh, but this album is truly forgettable. 1/10
I really enjoyed this being my first Modest Mouse album. I was not expecting it to have this much of a punk influence and I really loved how it started so raw. I was however a little bit underwhelmed by the softer, more post-rock, parts of the album.
Another thing I really enjoyed about this album was how it was super consistent, as in the flow of the tracks felt very natural. It almost felt like a concept album. To me that's always a great quality in a record. Great submission, will go back to his. 8/10
This album started really strong with the opener. I was really vibing with the mix of influences. Obviously there is some huge comparison to be made with Foo Fighters, but also some QOTSA and I even picked up some light Mastodon vibe. I also liked when later on there were more emo vibes, even though it is not a style I am a big fan of, I just thought the mix of sounds was cool. The musicianship and production are also pretty solid.
However, the more the record went on, the more I thought its impact was fading out. I was starting to realize that there was no melodies that was particularly memorable. It kind of picked up again on 9/15ths, but not enough to bring back the interest of the beginning, All in all, far from being a bad record, but not something I think was missing from the original list. 6/10
This is a nice blues rock album, with some soul influences and even almost prog-ish at some points. Great musicianship, especially on the guitar. However, I feel like this kind of blues rock is victim of its popularity as there are so many bands that resemble this. It is hard for me to really pick it apart from a lot of other stuff I've heard in the same vein. It is far from being a bad album, but I feel like if you put some of the songs in a blues playlist, I would have a hard time recognizing them from the rest. 6/10
