Get Fucked is the second studio album by Australian punk rock band the Chats. The album was recorded in six days in Brisbane and released on 19 August 2022 through the band's own label, Bargain Bin. It is their first album to feature Josh Hardy on guitar, following the departure of Josh Price in 2020.
Praised for being "loaded with more instantly quotable Aussie idioms", the album lyrically explores elements of Australian culture while also "tapping into universal anxieties" including inflation and "racism in surf culture". Get Fucked was preceded by four singles – "Struck by Lightning", "6L GTR", "I've Been Drunk in Every Pub in Brisbane" and "Out on the Street".
The album debuted at number 2 on the ARIA Albums Chart and number 3 on the UK Independent Albums Chart, also charting in Germany and Scotland. At the 2022 ARIA Music Awards, it won the Best Hard Rock or Heavy Metal Album. In September 2022, the band embarked on the nationwide Get Fucked Tour to support the album.
You know what can *actually* get fucked? These guys and their whole vibe. Talk about a pack of tryhards. You aren't doing anything that hasn't been done a million times already, by people who did it a million times better. ha ha, servo pies and backyard cricket!! ha ha, what comedy! So, yeah... get fucked, I guess. 1/5.
This was nearly an instant 5 stars just from the album cover and the album name.
But then I listened to it.
And it was still a 5 star album.
If you name a song "I've Been Drunk in Every Pub in Brisbane" then you have my heart forever
Its the song topics that make this charming punk. The music and delivery it pretty standard issue energetic rock, but then topics like 6L GTR, The Price of Smokes, I've Been Drunk in Every Pub in Brisbane and Emperor of the Beach give it punk humanity. Fun listen!
I'm surprised I haven't heard more Australian punk. Australian culture sort of seems like it is made for punk. In any case, this is awesome. Good, straight ahead punk. 4 stars.
Yeah, that's punk. I tend to feel like this genre said pretty much what it had to say forty-plus years ago. Still this had plenty of good-naturedly aggressive goofball energy and as usually with punk it keeps everything brief and to the point.
I guess I shouldn't judge an album by when it was released. Good punk is good punk. But maybe I'm removing a star because they've had so much inspiration to draw up, and ultimately, there's nothing new here.
Absolutely solid punk album that I never would’ve run into if not for this wonderful place of people sharing tunes. This is what it’s all about
…looking at you, user who submitted that Chappell Roan album
Aussie punk from 2022?? You must be kidding right?
Hang on, this is right up there with the 1997 Aussie movie masterpiece 'The Castle'. It's a ripper!!!
The music is a vehicle for the lyrics- "The price of smokes have gone up again/A dollar 95 a cigarette", "Run, run I'm still gonna getcha/You can't hide from me, I'm a ticket inspector!" Every line is a gem.
Priceless. Thanks for sharing this......
STOP PRESS: Just listened to this again and did their musical ability a disservice. They're pretty tight.
Solid 5*****
Exactly as short as it should be, which wins it points. As other reviewers have pointed out, this brings nothing new to punk as a genre - but then it doesn't have to. It's a solid example of punk with a 'Strayan bent, and I'm here for it.
REALLY wanted to give this a 5, just because I loved it so much, but man, I give out 5s only to all-time-greats and while this is awesome, it's no ATG. 4.5/5, but rounding to 4. Cool as hell.
Well this is curious: it sounds like 1980 but was released in 2022.
(An album from 1980 copying the radical sound of 42 years before would have been early big band).
So is it deliberately retro ? Pastiche ?
It’s good, it’s great fun and full of energy. But….maybe derivative?
This was a refreshingly pure punk rock album. Just half an hour of energetically complaining about whatever mundane shit annoys these guys in their daily lives.
A proper punk LP that shows up, says its piece, and then leaves before you've had a chance to blink. Not sure what they're smoking down in Australia nowadays, but it's led to some of the best and most innovative music in the indie scene this past decade.
Pretty cool Aussie vintage garage punk. Of course, The Chats are not trying to reinvent the wheel here, and you may wonder: why this particular album and not dozens of other excellent LPs in that overall genre also forgotten in Dimery's list, going from The Saints to Amyl And The Sniffers if you only stick to famous Australian examples? Right after *Get Fucked* was over, Spotify indeed sent me into a rabbit hole filled with other excellent punk or punk-adjacent acts from Down Under (Civic, Stiff Richards, RMFC, Private Function, Alien Nosejob...). And honestly, it feels most of those acts deserve a place in this users' list as much as The Chats do.
That said, the guitar work on "Get Fucked" is solid and more versatile than what it first appears to be, and it's easy to perceive how endearing most of those songs would be for fans of that genre. The opener is awesome and has catchy vocal parts, "The Price Of Smokes" offers hilarious working class "wisdom" in the shape of repeated aggro one-liners set to an infectious "groove", and the last four cuts are quite memorable as well. Nice build-up here, it's quite important to not quickly wear your welcome out in that genre.
If I had an unlimited amount of time on my hand, I would probably return to this LP. Likewise, if I found a cheap copy of it in a record shop in my European town -- chances that this happens are close to zero -- I would buy it right away. But I do buy a lot of records now, and when it comes to the purposes of this generator, 1001 is obviously too low a number to include a 100% derivative-albeit-well-crafted album such as this one.
Yet the least I can do is to symbolically leave my door open to The Chats. Plus it's usually harder for Australian indie acts to get noticed outside of their borders. So I guess a good deed is in order here. Being apparently very polite and well-mannered lads, I expect the members of this Aussie outfit to flip the bird at me in return, just as they do on *Get Fucked*'s cover. You're welcome, c*nts!

1.Radiohead - Kid A
2. Pixies - Doolittle
3. Sonic Youth - Sister
4. Nirvana - In Utero
5. DJ Shadow - Endtroducing
6. Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven -
7. Radiohead - OK Computer
8. Low - Double Negative -
9.Big Thief - Capacity -
10. Grandaddy - The Sophtware Slump -
See you soon?
Fun Australian punk rock, but I like this less than their contemporaries Amyl and the Sniffers.
My personal rating: 4/5
My rating relative to the list: 4/5
Should this have been included on the original list? No.
Punk-rock sin contemplaciones. Estilo juvenil. Sin grandes alardes y con composiciones muy normales de este tipo de música. Suena un tanto gamberro, guitarrero y con intensidad
A little bit of speed and excitement in the songs but with great energy. Perhaps what is a bit disappointing is that the whole album could be just one song because they practically sound the same. However, it is appreciated that it does not take up much time and thus avoids being annoying... oh, and they have a chorus dedicated to Superman.
I love a short and (not at all) sweet punk album, all muscle and no fat. This one delivers in that regard, full tilt. My one personal thing is that I find Eamon Sandwith's voice to be a bit grating, but that's a minor complaint. And this doesn't particularly tread new ground, but eh who cares? Great to see some legit punks keeping the faith in the 2020s.
Fave Songs: The Price of Smokes, Boggo Breakout, Getting Better, Struck by Lightning, 6L GTR, Out on the Street
April 25, 2025
HL: "6L GTR", "Panic Attack", "Ticket Inspector", "The Price of Smokes", "Emperor of the Beach", "Getting Better"
5th Australian act so far on the user list, and 5th that I had no idea about beforehand (after Gang of Youths, the Sports, Gurrumul and Foetus)
I don't care for punk...
...but I like this
7/10
Punchy and direct Aussie punk, with an actual punk spirit rather than just appropriating the sound while saying fuck all, like Brisbane’s answer to the Sex Pistols without that manufactured svengali sheen. There’s maybe not quite anything as infectious as The Chats’ behemoth single Smoko, but it’s a very solid punk album with a lot of promise
Awfully rude of them to insult me before even listening. This modern punk rock band makes music that thrashes and is a force of music. Overall it’s nothing I really care to listen to but their punk sound is pretty decent. 4.4/10
Get Fucked is a quick fiery burst of old school punk by guys who are probably wise enough to know better, but Australian enough to try. It's fun but not necessarily that good, and if I want some stupid good time Aussie rock then I'm gonna listen to Airbourne every time. A low 3/5 because it's not below average, it's just okay.
Well after about 30 seconds I'm thinking get fucked indeed - I am about to hate everything about this. God - this Aussie bloke screaming at me is laughably irritating and honestly the album cover is a spot-on indication of what I'm listening to.
...ya know, but ok yeah I hate it (did i say that?). But. They're actually pretty tight and almost ALMOST feels like if they had a different vocalist - or none at all - there would be parts I could listen to.
e.g. "The Price of Smokes" isn't bad. Just stop screaming.
Seriously tho this is a good lesson in giving an entire album at least a shot [some exceptions do apply, see terms and conditions] - I really don't like abrasive punk - actually hate most of the genre - but when I sort of let this one wash over me and "got" the attitude ... some of these are actually bangers. I just fking loathe the vocals, jfc woof.
4/10 2 stars.
This is just so boring. I'm not one to complain about bands sounding like something that's been done before at all, but they have to write good songs. And The Chats clearly can't write good songs. They're not as funny as they think they are either. So many people on the internet act like this is the only good newer punk band to exist, and all for a band that's just so nothing.
Get fucked? Me? You get fucked. I fuckin' hate this old school-sounding punk rock. Ability to play 3 power-chords on a guitar doesn't make you a musician. Evidently.
2022 release?! Man, I know this kind of bare-bones punk always is going to have a core of fans, but this breaks *no* new ground. Music for an audience that just wants the same thing served up for eternity, if I'm being judgemental about it
As soon as I saw the cover I knew what I was in for.
I hate this, and I want to give it a one star, but it is kind of catchy, so I don’t know if they deserve some additional credit for that…
No, head lice are also catchy and that doesn’t make them any more enjoyable.
