Myths Of The Near Future
KlaxonsEnjoyed most of this. Will definitely re-visit in the near future.
Enjoyed most of this. Will definitely re-visit in the near future.
A pleasant listen.
It was a little rough. My thoughts go out to all the parents in the 80’s who had to endure this noise coming from their angsty teen’s bedroom. I’ve always found their most popular track “Blister in the Sun” to be quite unremarkable. The vocal track basically just mimics the guitar melody. Pretty lazy and not interesting at all. The album does have some originality. The acoustic bass is pretty funky. But overall, not my thing.
I feel like Bobby Womack made this album with the intention of getting people laid. Considered rating this a 2, but cannot possibly put it down there with Violent Femmes. 3 it is.
Would have definitely preferred if this U2 album was automatically downloaded onto my iPhone. A couple boring songs, but a solid listen for sure.
Enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Loved the interactions with the crowd. Made for a very unique listening experience. Who would have thought. Prison. Underrated spot for a live performance.
A couple bright spots, but you definitely expect more from a self-proclaimed “genius”. Also, if you look at the album credits, apparently it takes 95 people to make an album.
Definitely won’t be putting this on any gym playlist. A real moody feel. Normally enjoy my 80’s music a bit more upbeat and cheesy. But I could see this being enjoyable on a calm rainy day.
I’ve decided that 3 will be my rating for mediocre. That’s exactly where this one lies.
Enjoyed hearing this front-to-back for the first time in years. This album still holds up as a solid set of metal tracks. Paved the way for bands like Metallica to revolutionize the genre.
Though sometimes scarce, there’s some greatness on every Led Zeppelin album. Often in awe at some of the drumming exhibited on their tracks. Some songs were just okay, and some dragged on. Sorry to criticize the great zep. But…not a perfect band by any means. A little bit overrated in my books.
Will not be surprised to see some low numbers in the reviews here. However, the amount of artists that list Kraftwerk as an influence is quite remarkable. I do enjoy this album, but by the end you can’t help but think “well that’s enough robot music for today”. I wonder if an extended version of the song Autobahn will come out someday.
Interesting dark quality to this one. Kind of a mix between Tears for Fears and early Nine Inch Nails. Love that high-impact, high-reverb drum sound. Quintessential 80’s. Probably won’t listen again, but enjoyed a few tracks.
I tried to put aside how many times I’ve heard some of these tracks on terrestrial radio. Listening from a fresh perspective, this album kinda rocks. You can’t deny, AC/DC has some of the best riffs out there. The fact my phone autocorrected to include the “/“ in the band name, shows how much of an impact this band has made. “Let me put my love into you” will be my new go-to pickup line. I expect many rejections.
Due to the fact I could probably write a decent punk album in about 40 minutes, can’t rate this very well.
Somewhat enjoyed hearing The Specials. The ska sound does wear itself out a bit, but I think there’s enough variety. Walking bass lines, some cool guitar licks. The song Concrete Jungle provides a good example of this. Although the vocals don’t really steal the show on this album, I did enjoy the ensemble in A Message to you Rudy. You can’t say this album isn’t at least a little bit of fun.
At first I thought “wait, another AC/DC album??” Then a few minutes in I realized it was a different artist. I could see myself playing this while trying to relax on an airplane. But not many other situations call for it. At many points this gave off “sad movie soundtrack” vibes. That said, I don’t think the intent with this was to record a #1 hit. Had to skip through some because I try to avoid things that shift my mood in the direction of complete emptiness. But… the goal here was to create ambient music and I suppose this album accomplished that.
Ladies and gentlemen, Mrs. Conway Twitty.
Just because it sounds good when you’re on drugs, doesn’t mean it should be recorded and distributed to the public. I thought this was a terrible album (my opinion). Baffled that it’s even included in the 1001. It may just be me but at times the vocals seem really disconnected from the rest of the band. It’s like they recorded the instruments, then a week later recorded the vocals at a different location with completely different equipment. Very distracting. The only half decent song was Jump Sturdy. I’d be okay never hearing this guy sing ever again.
Not bad. Their next two albums are a bit better than this one.
Simply one of the best psychedelic rock offerings out there. Aside from the hits, I’ve always liked Today and DCBA -25. This album has great variety. Some powerful tracks, but knows when to slow things down.
Never been a ‘sit back and appreciate the musical complexities of jazz’ kinda guy. However, I do sometimes enjoy it as background. I’m sure jazz musicians really appreciate when their art is referred to as background music. But, everything has its purpose. This album Getz me in the mood to sit at a coffee shop and pretend to do important work.
I’ll say this. If I were to make a list of 3 albums you must listen to before you die, this one would be on that list. In the synth-pop/new wave genre, there are very few albums that come close to this one. Instead of going in-depth into each track, I’ll keep it simple. They’re all fantastic. A great band in their prime. 5/5.
Enjoyed about half of it. Which is all you can really ask for out of an album. Certainly has 90’s written all over it.
Fiona Apple - great name. Also some enjoyable tracks on here.
Enjoyed most of this. Will definitely re-visit in the near future.
Moved a bit slowly for me, but that’s his style. No matter how long it takes, Isaac Hayes will get you into his bed. Doing a bit of research it appears he had a lot of children. I guess that’s what happens when you sing love-making music.
Not sure if this will be an unpopular opinion, but I found the album a bit unremarkable. Some powerful sounds, but most of the tracks didn’t grab me. United and Red, White and Blue are very strange additions to this album.
Fun album. That’s all I got.
Always forget how many great songs are in this album. A couple cheesy ones (Little Child, Devil in her heart) but what do you expect, it’s 1963. Don’t Bother Me is an underrated George track.
Tough not to feel a certain way listening to the first 10 mins of this album. A long track, but I’m here for it. Might be an unpopular opinion, but Wish You Were Here doesn’t really do much for me. Shine On and Have a Cigar though. Two of their best. Almost a 5 for this one. But need to keep those in the reserve.
Some GROOVY sounds here but overall not a very polished album. I feel like this band has the potential to make a decent rock album, but a lot of these songs just ascend into mindless chaos.
Really quite enjoyed this one. Each track seemed to have something interesting. Good use of different instruments. Heard some strings in there, and woodwind instruments. I would like to join the Clube.
Most songs were adequate.
