Back To Black
Amy WinehouseSuch a beautiful voice. It's sad to see someone with this much potential to just go how she did. There are so many big hits on this album. I definitely agree that she walked so Adele could run.

This album was just an all round good time. I found a lot of new songs and found it pretty soothing. Easy to listen to. Love the style of pretzel vendor in black and white. My mum heard some songs and showed me how her favourite Steely Dan song 'Hey Nineteen'. This album was super funky and groovy.
'Song 2' came out the year I was born and other than 'Parklife' and 'Girls and Boys', I didn't know any other songs by Blur. They have such a variety of sounds. Loved opening song 'beetlebum'. 'You're so great' was really feel good, lyrics were so catchy. Psychedelic at some points like in 'Strange news from another star'. The singer sounds a lot like the vocalist in the Gorillaz.
Good driving music. Very powerful, psyched me up. Hair metal screams are what I needed today. He's got such a great voice, so much range. I only know 'I believe in a thing called love' but I found a new favourite 'Growing on Me'. 'Love is only a feeling's is such a ballad, another new favourite. Had me moving from start to finish.
Finally, it's so good to have an excuse to listen to this album. The artwork is iconic but I have never listened to it in my life. I know a handful of songs but I have already found some new songs which I love such as 'Maxwells silver hammer' and 'Oh! Darling'. I love how powerful and emotional his voice gets. It's so guteral and real. Plus I love the psychedelic sound, I know understand the popularity of this album. The tone shift in 'I want you', then just going straight to 'here comes the Sun' was so unexpected. It kind of gave a different connotation to the song. I always knew it as being super positive but after the previous song it feels like a dystopia.
First got introduced to this band in a game called 'Sleeping Dogs', with 'Hong Kong Garden'. I love the singers voice so far and I've only heard 'Spellbound'. The guitar and drums are so mesmerising. Feels like they're dancing around my head while her enchanting voice has me captivated. Also really appreciating the punky gothic elements, it gets me moving with it. The songs feel like they're spiralling around my head. It's a surreal experience. 'Monitor' had me dancing and feeling motivated. Overall, awesome album.
The message of 'Everyone is broken' is a real powerful statement to have at the start of an album. It sets this tone for a dystopia. I love hearing the emotion in his voice. Love when singers have little cracks and imperfections in their songs. It makes it feel so raw and like real emotions. One of the reasons my favourite band is Korn is because he is so real with his feelings and that is projected through his voice. You can really hear his struggle with mental health and that he is a broken man. Fake plastic trees is such a beautiful song, one of my favourites. I love how he gets really high pitched and drags out syllables of some words and the repetition of 'It wears him out'. Also really appreciated 'Just'. I found it so catchy and repetitive and relatable. 'Black Star' is definitely one of my new favourites now. It had so much emotion and it just made sense to me. There were times during the final song where I felt like time was running out. It sounds like a cry for help. Very emotionally powerful album.
Listening to Merle Haggard just give me nostalgia of driving through the country side of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas listening to K-Rose. It's very sombre, gives that classic feeling of country lonlieness and losing your way. Just makes me feel like I'm driving down a country road with nothing around me for miles. I love the way he can drag his voice on and make it bounce. I like this sort of country. 'Drink up and be Somebody' is one of my favorite so far. Love that classic yern of getting drunk and losing your wife, house, dog, truck and guitar. The female vocals also add a lot of depth to it, another country trope I adore. It gets really honky tonk with 'If you want to be my woman'. Same for the rest of the album. Also really love 'Skid Row'.
Off the bat I recognised the opening instrumental to 'Feel'. I have heard it somewhere else and the song was vaguely familiar. There is something about these songs that seem so familiar to me. I might have heard them in movies. I found thirteen to be very reminiscent of the beginning of my relationship. I'm about half way and this album is okay but I don't really see why it is so special. It sounds like your typical 70's generic rock. Some of the instrumentals are pretty good but mothers than that it all seems very standard. I do like it, but it doesn't really stand out when placed next to similar albums.
Not the biggest fan of jazz but I can appreciate it in some ways. It reminds me a lot of films set in New York such as 'Taxi Driver' and 'Mean Streets'. I've always seen the saxophone as a sleezy instrument. Half way through the first song the best began to become a bit more cohesive compared to the beginning. Towards the end when he keeps repeating 'Love Supreme', it reminded me a lot of Viper the Rapper. He raps in that monotone voice similar to John Coltrane and often uses repetition. Jazz just gives me anxiety and makes me uncomfortable as a genre. Overall, was not a fan.
I'm pretty excited for this album because the only song I know by Public Enemy is 'Fight the Power'. So far the first 3 songs of this album have been pretty lack luster. 'Welcome to the Terrordome' is the first song I like. It has a good flow and gets you moving. I can picture a car chase to this song. This album gives me GTA SA nostalgia. It sounds like something that was played on Los Santos FM. I personally found 'Polywanacraka' very annoying. It just kept going on and on. It's a very chaotic album. I understand what it means by it powering a revolution. "What's wrong with some colour in your family tree". I love that lyric. Thats just golden. It has its ups and downs but was not the biggest fan.
Off the bat it really has that indie sound. The riffs in 'Kracked' are so warping and twisting. I would love to hear that live. If the album cover could speak, it would sound like the singers voice.Very tired and over it. He sounds exhausted. It's also making me think about skating. I think that's the indie rock kind of punky sound they are producing. I loved the part at the end of 'sludgefest' where it just picks up super quick. Like they kicked down the door and said "Hey, fuck you were not finished yet!" It's very whiney but the instrumentals lift it up and give it some power. It's quite a contrast. I really liked the song 'In a jar', that had me moving and grooving.Very solid and Trilling ending with 'Just like heaven '. I love 'The Cure', and that was such a good cover. The guitar was so playful and just bounced along. Absolutely Mad Album.
So far I like this album. It has that classic rock blues sound which is so lovable. The pianos and guitars just blend together so well. It's just peaceful pub music to me. His voice has just got the right amount of scratch in it. It's a shame I couldn't find this on Spotify. Just YouTube so I did have to watch a lot of ads. My mum heard me listening to it and appreciated that I was listening to Neil Young since she grew up listening to his music. She ended up listening to the other half of it. It was a good experience.
I really liked this album. It was so funky and got me moving. It goes from motivating to psychedelic. I love the Hispanic sounds in 'Cisco kid'. The message of the world being a ghetto was pretty powerful because it's true. Were all here stuck with each other. There's a lot of shit that out weighs the good. There was a pretty sweet instrumental song in the middle which acted as the bridge between funky and psychedelic/ stoner. Overall, good album.
Excellent opening track. It had such a good beat. Easy to follow along considering it was my first time hearing it. "I feel trapped by a mutual affection". The lyrics are so surreal and sound like you're on a trip. It's got a real underground punk sound. I'm really into it. The contrast of punk instrumentals to electronic sounds blends well. The sound makes me think of paranoia. It's very hectic and busy. No room to breath, it's just a constant flow of bonkers. It's a very eclectic album. I loved the intro to 'Mother-Sister!' I feel like the singer is on drugs. I think a better word is psychosomatic. I believe the electronic sounds might be a keyboard. Overall, I really loved this album and it was right down my alley. I will definitely listen to it again and add most of it to my playlist.
I love Wu-Tang Clan so already I am mad impressed by this. I have only ever heard 'Ice-Cream', but I am so excited to listen to the rest. 'Criminology' had such a good beat. Just make me wanna sway my head and get the fuck down. Everyone has such flow, it's so fucking good. I knew it was gonna be good from the start. The lyrics are so tightly packed and just wrap around the samples so well. Good shit. This is true gangsta rap.
The first half of the album was much better than tge second half. The lyrical content was very emotional, real and raw. After a while it just became a downer. It's a very intelligent album and I would listen to it again with the lyrics up. I know Morrissey is known as the King of Sad/ sorry for yours lf which I finally understand after listening to this. Some songs just feel like they're trying too hard to be like fuck this world and poor me. But it was a pretty good album nether the less.
Such a beautiful voice. It's sad to see someone with this much potential to just go how she did. There are so many big hits on this album. I definitely agree that she walked so Adele could run.
