Violator
Depeche Mode
World in my eyes 7.5/10 - Captures what I like about 80's synth pop. It's better than a 7 not quite an 8.
Sweetest Perfection 6/10 - A bit repetitive. Kind of like the violin (?) And guitar chords around the 2 min mark I guess. It's a slow build through the entire song but the payoff didn't really do a whole lot for me at the end.
Personal Jesus 6/10 - It's personal Jesus. Everyone's heard it a million times. At this point you either love it or hate it or you think it's just OK. (It's just ok. Kinda boring)
Halo 7/10 - It's just good. Much like world in my eyes is it Captures what I like about dark 80's synth pop. So far its the best vocal melody on the album.
Waiting for the night 5/10 - if the ambience of this one doesn't pull you in then it's just going to be a boring forgettable song (ambience didn't pull me in)
Enjoy the silence 7/10 - kind of a nice surprise. Didn't know that I knew this one but I've definitely heard it many times. Much like world in my eyes and Halo this is the kind of Depeche Mode I prefer. Not sure what was going on in the 90 sec. or so there. Didn't work for me.
Policy of Truth 8/10 - man this one is an earworm. I like the synth melody and rhythm. Vocal melodies work well with the music. This one is solid. Best song since the opener.
Blue Dress 5/10 - it's a moody balled in a genre that I'm already not very big on. Same issues with this one I had with waiting for the night. The last minute has another weird closing section thats different from the rest of the song like in Enjoy the silence.
Clean 7/10 - it's an OK song. I like the driving build up of the backing melody and the atmosphere of it all but it doesn't really go anywhere.
Dangerous 7/10 - another catchy song like policy of truth but unlike the previous song this one doesn't quite do it for me.
Memphisto 4/10 - an instrumental that doesn't really do anything. Seems like it could be a cinematic background song maybe. Only works in context with the album I guess.
Siblings 4/10 - Piano dominated instrumental that only works in context with the album.
Kaleid 5/10 - a grungy synth instrumental that sounds cool. It's got a very outrun vibe to it. But like the other instrumentals it only works in context with the album. You aren't just listening to any of these as singles.
Happiest Girl 7/10 - it's a decent 80's synth pop song. Doesn't really try to be anything other than that. Doesn't really need to be anything other than that.
Sea of Sin 7/10 I like the backing music. The vocal melodies work well for this one and help to enhance the overall song. Feel like it COULD be one of the higher rated songs on the album but something about it, I'm not sure, just doesn't push it to that next level.
Overall 6.5/10 - I didn't take the instrumentals into account when coming up with the overall rating as I didn't feel like that was fair. I'd go as far as to say 6.5 is an overall low rating for Violator as a whole. I'd probably give it a bias rating of 7/10. It's a good listen as a whole and I can see how these guys set the gold standard for dark synth rock of the 80's. I'm by no means knowledgeable on this genre but it works for me as a jumping off point for discovering more music in this style.

Funeral
Arcade Fire
I really like the overall vibe of this album. The sound. The atmosphere. It all works pretty well as background music to everyday life. Thats kinda what this album feels like though, just background music. Some tracks attempt to stand out more than others such as Laika, Crown of love, wake up and Rebellion however, even those dont really take the album to a different level. On the whole I'd say Funeral just kind of meanders. The only reason this would be a "must listen" album is because while not pioneering a genre of their own they did popularize a sound that spawned countless imitators. Quite a few of which did it better.
Despite my previous criticism I do like Arcade Fire and have listened to this album, Neon Bible and The suburbs a number of times. (both of which I enjoy more)however as the years have gone by they just don't stand out for me the way they used to.
This album is a high 3 low 4 to me now.

Crosby, Stills & Nash
Crosby, Stills & Nash
Its a chill folk album. I can see they're shtick is the harmonies and sometimes when they have some other element helping carry the song along, the harmonizing works. More often then not though, all we get is 3 dudes singing into a mic with minimalistic nothing going on in the background. It's just boring music where nothing all that interesting happens outside a few songs.
Stand outs for me are Suite: Judy Blue Eyes, Wooden Ships (which I actually did find to be good songs that I may listen to again) and Long Time Gone.(which was only slightly better than the rest of the songs) I guess honorable mentions would be Marrakesh Express and 49 Bye-Byes because while still being kind of meh they at least woke me up a bit from the rest of this snoozer. Also, Im knocking a half star of my rating just because of Song with No Words. It epitomizes the issues I'm having with this thing.
Its only a 3 because I can't give it a 2.5.

People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm
A Tribe Called Quest
While I was never a fan of this era of rap music or what I've dubbed "Fresh Prince Rap" (how many will I piss off with that generalization?). I understand these guys helped lay the foundation for many artists that would come along and in opinion do it better. The backing tracks (or samples) are probably the best part of the album however they're a product of a bygone age of hip hop that did nothing for me then and does even less for me now. Flow, wordplay, delivery and the hooks are all a little too simple and repetitive. To me it just doesn't hold up to modern music or even to music of the same genre that would proceed it by just a few years. It's a relic of it's time and best looked at as just that for those of us who were too young or just not around to appreciate it when it was fresh.
Should have left the album in Segundo/10

Rocks
Aerosmith
After hearing all the singles Aerosmith had to offer over the years I felt like I knew what I was expecting when I first hit play on rocks and it turns out.... I was exactly right in my assumptions. This album was everything I expected it to be. Which is to say it's a boring hair metal album akin to AC/DC where if you have heard one of these guys songs you have essentially heard them all. At least other offerings have that one stand out single you can latch onto but this album, like 90% of their discography is samey hair metal trash. Tyler's voice can sometimes sound like nails on a chalk board and he overly relies on repetitive vocal melodies to push him through a song....album....career....
Unless you couldn't tell. I do not like Aerosmith...

Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots
The Flaming Lips
Although I had heard of them I had never listened to The Flaming Lips before this recommendation and I was pleasantly surprised upon hitting play on Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots. The mix of digital effects and synthesizers with traditional instrument work almost sort of kind of distantly reminds me of Radiohead which is write up my ally. This album has a cool vibe that I enjoyed the entire way through. That being said nothing on here really jumped out and got my attention on my first listen and as the album went on I started to feel like maybe it was overstating its welcome. Seeing as how I generally like this kind of music it's worth another listen but for now it's a 3.5-4 stars for me.

Back To Black
Amy Winehouse
Amy Winehouse is an artist I always meant to get around to so I could see what all the hubbub was about and now that I finally have I can see I was missing out. I love the old school motown, swing, bluesy grooves that back up this girl's amazing voice. That's pretty much all this album does. It's a bluesy pop album about substance abuse, loss and regret. If you're turned off by it from the opening track it doesn't really do anything to win you over as the album progresses.

Wish You Were Here
Pink Floyd
This is one of the greatest albums of all time from one of the greatest bands of all time. I could spend hours gushing about Wish You Were Here and I'll TRY to keep this short but godamn do I love this album.
Right off the bat Shine on you Crazy Diamond hits you with that bassy synth section accompanied by one of the most hauntingly beautiful solos ever written in the history of music. this shit just puts you in a mood and it never let's up for all 13 and a half minutes.
Welcome to the Machine was an anthem for me as I'd ride the city bus to go clock in at a shitty dead end job. Musically this song is absolutely perfect and I wouldn't change a thing.
Have a cigar is a hilariously sarcastic song about the music industry. You just have to nod your head to its funky groove. Roy Harpers delivery on lyrics such as "it can be made into a monster, if we all pull together as a team" is lyric that somehow finds a way to almost always be stuck in my head
Wish you were here is an ode to Syd Barret their original singer/song writer (as is Shine On... I'm fairly positive) and its probably the "weakest" song on the album. I only say that because one song has to be worse than the others. The line "We're just two lost souls swimming in a fishbowl" has for whatever reason just never worked for me both lyrically and on delivery. yet it still somehow manages to be a masterpiece. The acoustic riff that drives the song is an absolute earworm
Then you got the 2nd half of Shine on you Crazy Diamond which caps off what is potentially the greatest prog rock song of all time. While I prefer the first half over the 2nd the guitar work here is still top notch and it ends the album just as strong as it starts.
This is one of the few "perfect" albums I've heard in my life. Even though it more than likely won't be the only album I give a 5 star rating to as I continue using this app I hold it in much higher regard than I do pretty much all the others (spoilers warning: I like Animals even more than I like this album).

The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars
David Bowie
The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars was a real "wham, bam, thank you mam" and what a ride it was! I have to admit I started off not really caring for David's vocals but they grew on me more as the album went on. I could probably say the same for the project as a whole. From the very start you realize this is going to be different and it finds a way to keep you entertained. To anyone trying to experience different eras of rock history this is a real gem and 100% worth listen to but, I feel like, had I grown up listening to David Bowie.. erm... I mean "Ziggy Stardust" I would probably appreciate the music more. As it stands now I probably won't be listening to this again anytime soon.

Five Leaves Left
Nick Drake
I had never heard of Nick Drake before 5 leaves left was recommended to me. So let me start by saying that the album title is fitting because listening to this thing is about as entertaining as watching the leaves fall off an autumn tree until there are only 5 left. I get why people like this as it's not all bad. Songs like 3 Hours, Day is Done, Cello Song, Fruit Tree and Saturday Sun while not making any playlist of mine are "ok" enough. But then you have stuff like Way to Blue which is almost pretentious in how depressing it is. I guess Nick Drake was manically depressed to the point where somedays he couldn't even walk or speak. So I get why it exists but, damn man... Bands who make emo music can take a real lesson from this dude on what real depression sounds like.
All in all Its a pretty forgettable collection of songs that I won't be returning to, nor will I even remember after shoving a fistful of Xanax down my throat now that it's over.
I'll give it a 3 star rating but its actually 2.5 Stars.

On The Beach
Neil Young
Well, now that I've heard Crosby, Stills and Nash without Young and Young without Crosby, Stills and Nash I'm hoping when I get an album where they're all together it actually does something for me because this one really didn't. That being said, although I liked this album more than the first CSN album I really don't have the highest of hopes. This era of folk just isn't for me.
On the beach starts off well enough. The first 3 tracks are fine but after revolution blues it really falls off and by the end I was struggling to even stay focused on what I was listening to. I was hoping this would be the album that had heart of gold on it because I kinda like that song. It's a solid 3 stars. Didn't love it. Didn't hate it. The music just did nothing for me to warrant another listen so I won't be giving it one.

After The Gold Rush
Neil Young
Good God! Back to back Neil Young!?! Why!? He's not even on spotify! Ugh...
Went into this with pretty low expectations because I didn't care much for Neil Youngs - On the Beach. Which was recommended to me JUST YESTERDAY!
Anywho... The album opens up with Tell me Why and its not a bad song. The harmonies weren't too bad. Besides that it didn't have a whole lot going for it. The following 2 songs did even less and are forgettable...
You wont believe it though! Shockingly! We get to Southern Man and dare I say it?? Can it be possible?? I actually like this one! It's got a good driving rhythm, a nice little lick that carries it and a simple but effective drum pattern that I can nod my head to! I really like it at about the 1:30 mark when the tempo picks up a half beat or so and we get a pretty cool solo/breakdown. My God we have a real song here! If Neil Young wasn't such a pretentious fuck and was willing to put his music on spotify I may actually be willing to playlist this one!
The good times don't last though because Til Morning Comes is up next and despite its short length its pretty repetitive. the horn section on this one is the most interesting thing we're getting until When you Dance starts and while it's not nearly as good as Southern Man it's an OK song. Feel free to sleep through the last couple songs. You aren't missing much here.
As an album, I feel like this one had more of a southern sound rather than the overly folky style we had with on the beach. I appreciate the experimentation with different genres/styles. Definitely prefer After the Goldrush over On the Beach despite them both getting the same 3 star rating. Partly because of Southern Man being as good as it was. And partly because Young moved a slightly more exciting style of rock. I wish I could go back and change the latter to a 2 star but hey I'm just trying to be fair and unbiased here. I see the merit in Youngs music. As I've said before its just not for me.

Dig Your Own Hole
The Chemical Brothers
Man, this album did not age well at all. It just sounds like an off the shelf soundtrack for the Matrix Trilogy or a Guy Ritchie movie. The first track that came up was block rockin beats which I had heard before. I was pretty excited for the rest of the album however, by the time the 3rd track ended it was already starting to over stay its welcome. I'm now on the 8th track and not sure if I'll be able to finish the album in one sitting. It's just relentlessly repetitive and has no business being over an hour long...

Can't Buy A Thrill
Steely Dan
Wasn't expecting to enjoy this album as much as I did. There's a few songs on Can't Buy a Thrill that fall into the "forgetfully mediocre" category but for the most part I found something to appreciate in all the tracks on here.
I liked the album as a whole but I have to admit nothing on here really jumped out and gave me the feeling that I had to listen the album again, even though, Do it Again and Reelin in the Years will more than likely be popping up in random places as I live my life thats actually ok with me. Steely Dan is a cool band that I don't mind listening to but more than likely wont ever be seeking out on my own time. Its a solid 4 if I'm in the right mood 3.5 any other time.
Oh one last thing! What in the absolute hell is up with that album cover? Is there a story behind it? It's terrible!

Illmatic
Nas
If someone were to tell me that Nas is the greatest of all time I'd have a hard time proving otherwise. He's able to do it all and then some. I think I appreciate this album more knowing that it set the stage for the later albums that teenage me liked much more. All that being said I think Illmatic, despite being a classic in the world of hip hop really shows its age and doesn't really hold up for adult me. While being technically great with wordplay I feel like it has the issue all gangsta rap runs into and it's just lyrical content that I can't really listen to anymore. I get Nas grew up in a rough invironment and that kind of life influenced his writing but it still has the glorification of violence and bragging about how gangsta he is. Also it was made in a time when these guys were pretty limited on a production level and it shows. He's still got some songs that I can't help but love to this very day but none of them are on here.

Joan Armatrading
Never heard of Joan Armatrading before this recommendation and I went into this expecting to immediately forget I'd ever heard it but holy shit I could not have been more wrong! This is the only recommendation I've listened to more than once and I'm currently on my 3rd listen. Do not sleep on this record it's soooo good! Definitely the best blind listen album I've been recommended yet!
She somehow combines so many genres into a sound that just works without feeling forced. Along with her powerful voice and unique intonations and vocal runs/rhythm I don't know what you would call it but theres a lot to enjoy here.
This album is proof we need 10 stars because while I don't know if it's actually a 5 star it's sure as hell better than anything I've given a 4 to so far. Fuck it I'm giving it a 5.

ZZ Top
ZZ Top is one of those bands I kinda like but only in short bursts. If a random song comes on at an event I can enjoy it but an entire album of ZZ Top is entirely too much ZZ Top. Eliminator has some good riffage, some cool licks. But that's pretty much the entire show here. There is a song on here about eating TV dinners. These guys ain't got much to say...
Album is 3.5 for me but since I can't rate it as such I feel better about giving it a 3 than I do a 4.

69 Love Songs
The Magnetic Fields
Honestly, there's enough ok to decent songs on here to make it not a terrible album but holy shit 69 songs is way too long for this quality of music. 3 hours is a complete slog to get through. I'm still listening but this will probably be my first DNF.
The album title is self explanatory. Some people got together and wrote 69 simple love songs and threw them all together on this album. Many of them (if not most) sound like they were written in an hour. They're simple little hippy era accoustic things with simple singing over the top. The guys voice kind of sounds like Edward Sharp and the Magnetic Zeros and sometimes the music gives the same vibe but, with much less thought put into it. (I feel like this comparison is an insult to Edward Sharp) This HAS to be a background album while you're doing other things to enjoy it. Some stuff is pretty good like "No One Will Ever Love You" "Long Forgotten Fairy Tale" I thought were pretty good. And a few others had some quality to them but on the whole its just mostly half-assed filler.
There's probably enough decent songs on here to make a mediocre 3 star album but as it stands with the length of this thing and the amount of filler junk on here its like a 1.5 - 2 star album.

Chris
Christine and the Queens
This is a mostly catchy modern pop album with a 80's sounds. Which means a lot of bassy synth work and electronic drum beats. At many points this reminded me of Michael Jackson. All in all Chris has a good voice and the production was good but the songs all sound mostly the same. Individually they're fine but over the length of an hour and a half album it becomes repetitive. I grew less interested as the album went on especially when you consider the fact that both halves of the album are the same songs in two different languages. Also, the english translations are pretty rough. Half the time I had no idea what they were even trying to say in the sense that even though I understood the individual words the lyrics themselves sounded too abstract to have any discernible meaning. It's better when they're singing in French
After looking into it I guess Chris is a transgender and this album is about they them trying to find they're place in the world. Even though musically its fine as far as pop music goes there is really no way to relate to the artist or the message of the album and I don't really care too. Not my world, not my type of music.
It was catchy enough to listen to the entire thing but an hour and a half is just too long to listen to the same song that's been getting made for over 4 decades now over and over again.
Its a 2.5 because of the repetiveness but the songs are well made and catchy enough that l'll round it up to a 3

A Short Album About Love
The Divine Comedy
I dunno about this one. I normally don't mind baritone singers but something about this guy just sounds pretentious which is strange because lyrically he proves he's not taking any of this seriously. Speaking of lyrics. They're not as funny or witty as he seems to think they are. Just listen to If... to get an idea of what I'm talking about.
Musically the orchestral presentation isn't bad but it isn't enough to make this worth listening to either. Thank God I decided against the remaster which is twice as long as the original release. It's like a 2.5-3 star but I'll probably just round down to a 2 on this one. It's all pretty forgettable.
As I was typing all this out I think I figured it out. The way he sings sometimes sounds like a prince from those old animated Disney movies and it's just super cheesy and borderline annoying.

It might be a 1.5-2 star because Hells Bells is about the only song I can maybe tolerate in the right mood and you can't really deny the guitar work on here. However, I want my summary to show how much I hate AC/DC so I'll be rounding down on this one.

Synchronicity
The Police
If this was a greatest hits album I might have been more inclined to give this a 4 star rating. The Police have a handful of songs I enjoy and their fusion of reggae and classic rock creates a unique sound you can only find on a Police album. As it stands though this album doesn't do a whole lot for me. The run of songs between Synchronicity II and King of pain isn't bad and would lift the album up as a whole if the song Mother wasn't so terrible it immediately knocks it back down.
I kind of started getting bored towards the end for no particular reason other than I guess the music is just kinda meh for me. I feel comfortable giving this 3 stars.

Chelsea Girl
Nico
At some point this album made me feel like I was at renaissance fair and at other points it made me feel like I was listening to some hippy star child bullshit but at no point did I really like it all that much.
None of these song really do anything or go anywhere. When I saw that Chelsea Girls was a 7 minute song I got my hopes up that maybe there would be some depth to it but it really just meandered the entire 7 minutes. That's pretty much what this entire album did... meander and stick around for far too long.
To end this on a high note though I did think this was unique and the psychedelic elements kept me listening but it just wasn't enough. It's a 2 - 2.5 star. In this case a 2. Didn't hate it. Just didn't like it either.

I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You
Aretha Franklin
Despite never listening to any of her albums had heard enough Aretha Franklin to know going into this I was probably going to like "I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You" and I wasn't disappointed.
Outside of the music you hear at black folks church this is about as soulful as music gets and it does that perfectly. Aretha has an incredible voice and the drum work work behind it really brings the music home. Like most people I had heard Respect and I never Loved a Man (the way I love you) and they're just as good as I remember them but I also liked Baby Baby Baby and Save Me as much as the former songs as well. Everything on here is good.
I think what drops this down to a 4 for me though is I would prefer it a bit more if there was more use of traditional rock instruments to add more of a blues element to her music. Maybe she does that on other albums? I'm more than willing to listen to the rest of her material to find out!

There's nothing particularly "wrong" with this album its just a bit on the boring side. When I saw this was the artist who did son of a preacher man it kind of peaked my interest but sadly that song was the peak of my interest. When the music is more upbeat and Dusty is showing of her vocal talent its ok but overall there's large sections where it's just slow and dull.

Kings Of The Wild Frontier
Adam & The Ants
So I really wanted to like this. Its unique and kept me mostly interested the entire way through this album. I enjoyed a lot of the drum and bass work on here and liked how prominently they stood out in the mix on the production side. However, too many times it would set a solid foundation for a song and I would think "oh it would be really cool if they took it this direction" instead more often than not it wouldn't really do anything. These guys get an idea for a song and just beat it into the ground to the point where it becomes repetitive. I feel like most of these songs although already pretty short really could be cut in half and still accomplish all the same things. Speaking on repetition, I didn't really care for the lead singers voice and it isn't helped when he's constantly wailing the same lines over and over again in his out of key voice.
I'd give this album a 2.5 if I could but because that isn't possible I'm left in a position where I either have to round up or round down and I'm not sure where to go with that. I think the more I listened to it I could find more to appreciate about the music but I really don't want to so I'll just preemptively give it a 3 even though I really don't think this album deserves it with where I'm at with it right now.

Fetch The Bolt Cutters
Fiona Apple
Fiona Apple has always been a name I remember along side other names like Alannis Moresette and Jewel from back in the 90's so I was interested when this recommendation came up. It's never been my kinda music but a trip back to my youth could have been fun. So imagine my surprise when I see this album was released in 2020. What the hell could Fiona Apple be doing in 2020 that would make this a must listen album?
That answer to that question is.... absolutely nothing. This is an incredibly pretentious album and not in a fun eccentric way but in a Yoko Ono sort of way. The first song ends with her making Dolphin noises very much like Yoko Ono would have done when butchering John Lennons live performances.
Theres not really any music on here either. Its just Fiona talking "singing" and rambling about bullshit over a nothing backing tracks.
I'm honestly confused how this album made the cut for the 1001 albums project. It's not old enough to he influential and it's not interesting enough to stand out amongst other modern music.

The Next Day
David Bowie
The Next Day isn't a bad album. It has a range of sounds and song ideas that keep it interesting enough to keep my listening. I never really got bored but nothing out here really wowed me either which I was hoping would happen because this is the legendary David Bowie afterall. I guess what wows me the most is that even in 2013 he was still making this quality of music. It was good enough I'll probably give it another listen in the future but not great enough I need it to happen right now.
I enjoyed the song "The Stars" (are out tonight) it has kind of an old school goth rock vibe to it. There were a handful of other decent moments on here as well but yeah I wouldn't say I was impressed by anything on here.
An issue I had with Ziggy Stardust when I rated that one that became more apparent on this album is I just don't think I'm that big a fan of David Bowies voice. It's fine enough that I don't really want to dock points for it but I dunno, It just doesn't really lift the music up for me.
Its a 3.5-4 star album. I'll give it a 4. It's good and I'm happy to be finally exploring Bowies music. It's been a long time coming and I haven't been disappointed by any of it but I haven't been incredibly impressed either. I'm ready for more though!

A Nod Is As Good As A Wink To A Blind Horse
Faces
I'd never heard of this band and didn't know Rod Stewart was originally in an influential band. Though, I was never a big enough Rod Stewart fan to really follow his career. His voice has become familiar to me over the years though so it definitely helped the music overall having that familiarity to latch onto. It was also pretty cool to discover all the other bands these guys eventually made there way into as well. The Who, The Rolling Stones and Pete Townsend were all influenced by individual band members on some level. Pretty neat!
On a musical level this is just good wholesome classic rock. Its groovy music with some solid riffs. There's not much to complain about here other than the fact that it's all pretty par for course here. None of these songs do anything that really seperate it from the rest of the music of this era. Despite having never heard of faces I finished this album feeling like I had heard all these songs before.
It was good but I probably won't be returning to it anytime soon. Feels like I just need to turn on the classic rock station to get my fix of this genre of rock. It's a 3.5 for me but I'll probably round down to a 3 to really exemplify how plain this sounded in my opinion.

Wild Beasts
For the most part I like this Indi/Alt pop genre whatever it is and I'm guessing back in 2010 it was a lot less common and over done as it is today. I enjoyed the composition of this album and musically I'd say its pretty good outside the falsetto singer who I found kind of annoying. I normally dont mind high pitch singers some of my favorite bands are Rush, Coheed and Cambria and Circa Survive however here it feels like they did their best to ruin an otherwise solid album.
Not much else to really say here. This genre has been beat to death and there are a million other bands today that make this exact same type of music. It's a 3.5 for me because the falsetto singer but I guess I'll round it up to a 4. It does a lot right but not enough to rise above other groups they share this genre with. Probably won't be returning to this one.

Songs Of Leonard Cohen
Leonard Cohen
This might be one of the most boring albums I've ever heard in my life. Leonard Cohen just drones on while he plays minimalistic nothing on his guitar which the mix burries in the background to the point you can barely hear it. A couple songs kind of up the tempo but even they do who cares? This album is a snoozer.

OK Computer
Radiohead
Radiohead has more than enough songs I could probably 5 star a double disk greatest hits if that's what this was. However this isn't a greatest hits its OK Computer which while being great I just don't know if I can justify giving this 5 stars even though part of me really wants to.
There isn't really a bad song on this album but some them are just a little bit too slow for me and I don't know if "drone on" is the right description but it's the most fitting one I can think of.
Theres a ton of different sounds on this album. There's loud sections that just rock out and then there's slow ambient synth sections that you can get lost in. All of it is uniquely Radiohead. I get the love for this album I just don't think it's their magnum opus.
Its a 4.5 for me which I'll probably round down to a 4. I'll make up for this blasphemy if Hail to the Thief comes up.

This music is probably the TexMex of Mexican style music but I don't care. There is a nice blend of Indie/Alternative and sounds that sound culturally Mexican too my untrained ear. I really enjoyed this and will probably return again at some point. Sunken Waltz, Quatro and Close Behind were probably my favorites.

Yes
As much as I love prog music Yes is has always been a band I could just never fully get into. I enjoy listening to their music and exploring the many avenues their songs go down but I can never prioritize them over other bands of the same style I enjoy more.
Every song on The Yes Album is pretty solid though featuring many pretty cool moments. Starship Troopers is always worth the time whenever I do get around to listening to it which if I'm being honest. Isn't very often.

M.I.A.
This album annoyed me for the most part it had that one song that called back to The Pixies where is my mind which I wouldn't go as far as it say it was good. But it was a nice surprise compared to everything else that was on here.
Her voice is fine but her style of rapping or deliver on lyrics is incredibly repetitive along with all the backing tracks behind it. Paper Airplanes was probably the best song on here and I didn't like it the first time I heard it on the radio and in movies.

I really don't know what to make of this. It's mostly just ambient noise which sounded fine but it was impossible to stay focused on this album for the entire length and its a fairly long album as it is. Nothing here grabbed me it was just background music as I drove sound the road.
I'll recommend this to my friend who likes to put on music for her dogs while she's out of the house because she believes it helps with seperation anxiety. Probably the best use case for it.

White Ladder
David Gray
This is kind of a meh singer song writer type album. It just felt extremely vanilla. Once it was over I couldn't remember a single song. Not even boring or anything. White Ladder is the equivalent of eating Saltine Crackers. It's probably the most 3 star album I've ever heard.

Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space
Spiritualized
Theres a lot of sounds on this album between traditional rock instruments and horns and violins they kind of do a little bit of everything here. As the Album progresses it feels like it gets more experimental with I don't know how to describe it other than a cacophony of sound that kind of works if I'm being honest. This album isn't bad but I don't know if it's production or what but despite having all these sounds going on it just comes off sounding pretty flat. Nothing on here really stood out other than just being a decent one time listen.

Go Girl Crazy
The Dictators
Musically this album really isn't bad for an old rock album. The guitar work is decent and there are some fun grooves but my God is the lead singer annoying. I don't usually don't pay attention to lyrics on my first listen but what I heard on here wasn't very good.
Despite not really sounding a whole lot like AC/DC these guys remind me of AC/DC and that's not a good thing.

Beatles
I think I had pre conceived notions about the Beatles. I've heard enough of their music to feel like I had a pretty good idea of what this would be. That idea was that it would just be a once legendary album that had lost its uniqueness over the years as other bands had copied the Beatles success and ultimately done it better. I was pleasantly surprised though. The music on here was better than I expected and it still holds up to this day. I Want You (she's so heavy) has some serious groove to it. Not the type of song I was expecting from these guys but I really enjoyed it.

Led Zeppelin
This album is an absolute classic and I so much want to give it a 5 star rating but I just don't think it's a masterpiece album. Black Dog and Rock and Roll have kind of played out for me over there years (never Stairway though). Battle of Evermore and Sticks are ok enough songs but have never really done much for me. However, When the Levee Breaks is probably a top 10 song from Led Zeppelin.
I'll be giving it 4 stars but its a very high 4.

Gene Clark
I don't know how many of these folky singer song writer albums there are on here but its becoming entirely too many. This one had a bit of a southern rock/country vibe to it with harmonicas and stuff which kind of helped but everything about this was bland and boring. The two covers on here were the best parts but this had to be the worst version of stand by me I've ever heard.
If you're going to make low energy music you there HAS to be something else that carries it. Whether it lyrics or vocal work but this doesn't do anything. I'm tempted to give this a two because I'm getting so sick of these kinds of albums but if I put my bias aside I know that there is nothing entirely wrong with this album outside of the fact I just find this music absolutely boring. That being said this is a 2.5 for me that I'm rounding up to a 3.

Kind of has a bit of a trip hop vibe to it which I liked but many of the songs were a bit to slow or lacking for me. Human was a decent song. Kind of had a James Bond vibe to it. The album was ok but probably won't be returning to it.

Gorillaz
Like I've said on other reviews here Gorillaz are one of those bands where if I was able to make a greatest hits I'd probably be able to give it a 5 star rating. However, while doing many great things this self titled has just a bit too much "filler" for me to rate it so highly. Don't misunderstand me though there are some great songs on here. Tomorrow Comes Today has managed to find its way onto many playlists of mine over the years. I don't usually seek this album out but I'll definitely be returning to it at some point or another.

Bayou Country
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Probably not the best Creedence album but it's still pretty solid. I will admit the songs where it felt like they were a jam band grooving in someone's garage for example Graveyard Train and Keep on Chooglin'. Just didn't work for me despite normally being into that kind of stuff. I think it just goes to show that (unsuprisingly) that John Foggerty absolutely carries this band.
Either way I'll probably give it a high 3 low 4. There's just better Creedence albums out there than this one here despite the fact they'll probably all get 4 stars.

I have an irrational hate for this band. This shit is just the most generic and boring music ever made. I'd send it down to the depths with ACDC and Aerosmith (God do I want to) but at least they have variation and some experimentation even if it does bore me into anxiety.

Metallica
I don't typically like Thrash metal because it mostly sounds like crazy people banging on their instruments bit there is no denying that Metallica are the masters of it. This album has some good moments and good music but by the end I felt as if I kind of had enough and was ready for it to be over. Which fits how I feel about Metallica in general. They're pretty good in small doses but outside of the black album they don't really have much I can listen to for any decent length of time.

One of the least offensive 90's alternative albums I've ever heard. Absolutely nothing about any of this distinguishes itself from all the other "clean" sounding 90's alternative music I've heard.
Seriously, as soon as a song ended I forgot about it. This is the definition of a 3 star album to me.

This is pretty good stuff. Reminds me of at the drive-ins first couple albums which is a good thing. It feels a bit more straight forward then the aforementioned which kind of lead to me getting a little bored by the end. I'll give this some more listens because I'm sure there are some gems on this album I missed on my first listen.
