Stand! by Sly & The Family Stone

Excellent album. Perhaps one of my favorite. It has a really cool sound that is emblematic of the early 70s period. Not replicated in today's artists yet truly timeless. This is an album I will definitely revisit and deserves to be high on the 1001 album list. Favorite songs: Stand You can make it if you try Don't call me.....

Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon & Garfunkel
Oct 20 2023

Great album, the title teack is a timeless classic reaching to the depths of human trouble and compassion. However el condor Pasa and baby driver are also great tracks. Not my favorite album but certainly a great listen nonetheless

The Low End Theory by A Tribe Called Quest
Oct 23 2023

Classic album for a reason. Low end theory is an old school jazz inspired rap record. Reminiscent of a time when lyrics took the forefront in rap records. The beats are great, but often simplistic. It accentuates the diction and the creativity in the lyrics. The opening track is the best example of this. The flow isn't some fast paced almost undecipherable flurry of words. ATCQ wants you to hear and marvelous at what they're saying. A couple of dudes from queens talking about thier lives. It is obvious why they are such an influential group to so many.

Blue by Joni Mitchell
Oct 24 2023

Mitchell has a excellent introspective voice that Shines through this record. The topic is sad and melancholic, yet not depressing. Unlike many shoegaze, emo and sad core music, you can hear what Mitchell is saying. Blue ends up being the perfect name for this album. But despite that, this is not the album for me. I can appreciate it but struggle to enjoy it. It's not my type of music, and is certainly not the record I would put on just because I like it.

Moondance by Van Morrison
Oct 25 2023

Van Morrison's soulful album is excellent. Simple, beautiful elegance. An easy listening record that serves as great music when lounging or working. A masterclass in soul, it is probably the album I'll go back to when referencing soul and looking for a record to play. However, I rarely look for an album in this genre. I've hardly heard of Morrison before listening to this record. Of course I knew of brown eyed girl but I just don't care that much about soul. Great album nonetheless and deserves its 3 star rating from someone not interested in soul.

Dire Straits by Dire Straits
Oct 26 2023

Sultans of swing is a classic but rest of the album was slow and tiring

Brothers by The Black Keys
Oct 27 2023

A perfect meh album. There were some great songs and some forgettable songs. Tighten up, Howlin for You and Next Girl will always remain as excellent records. For whatever reason, the rest of the album really didn't do much for me.

Electric Ladyland by Jimi Hendrix
Oct 30 2023

An amazing album that really showcases Jimi Hendrix's skill as a singer, and guitarist. A rocky, bluesy compilation of songs, I thoroughly enjoyed it and is one of the reasons why Jimi hendrix is considered one of the goats by so many.

Disraeli Gears by Cream
Oct 31 2023

Great album. Not all of the songs were the greatest of all time but the album is a standout classic rock anthem. It transcends time and will be one of the records I reference when discussing the genre. Sunshine of your Love and The tale of Brave Ulysses and Strange Brew are all amazing songs. Released in 1967, this is probably one of the first and finest classic rock albums ever created. This is one of those few albums and the three aforementioned songs are some of the tunes I'll play whenever in the mood for some classic rock.

Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere by Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Nov 01 2023

For every 10 minutes subtracted from this album's length, it gets a star. The work was far too long and the instrumentals were too repetitive for too long. Music can sometimes feature a long repetitive instrumental and be great pieces. A specific example of this is Desire Lines by Deerhunter and the drone genre . Yet it EKTIN is not a drone piece and the repetition falls flat to me. It's a boring album. Maybe I need to listen to it more but this is my current review.

One of the prototypical punk album by one of the protoypes in the punk genre. NMTBHTSP (weird acronym) is purely 100% unadulterated punk energy. In the current age of microgenres mixing genres, emotions, lyrical content, instruments and more to make unique sounds, this somewhat old album harkens back to a time when genres were far more simplistic. When punk was just punk, metal was just metal, disco was just disco, and so on. While I will not indulge in a rosy retrospection of this foregone period and extol the "purity" of music, I must say that NMTBHTSP delivers on exactly what they promise. Young, angry, British men screaming against the government and popular conventions. As I said earlier it's one of the prototypical punk albums and is the literal definition of the entire genre.

Queen II by Queen
Nov 03 2023

A quintessential Queen album. While a fan of Queen, many of the songs didn't connect with me. Perhaps I need to listen to it more for it to connect.. it sounds wonderful, it sounds like a fantastical dnd campaign musical. Queen rarely if ever misses, and they didn't miss with this album. It just didn't stick with me, but even then I recognize it's a wonderfully made record

Led Zeppelin by Led Zeppelin
Nov 06 2023

As much a blues album as a rock album, Led Zeppelin is an excellent addition to this list. It is surprising to see a group produce such a strong debut album. This legendary album really prophesized the legendary career these four british rockers would have over the upcoming years. This album was the first domino that culminated with a career that is admired and remembered not only by rockers of the day, but rockers of decades after and really music fans of all genres forever. A bluesy, rocky record which deserves nothing less than a 5 star. Fave songs: Babe, Im Gonna Leave You, Dazed and Confused, You Shook Me, and Good Times, Bad Times

Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys
Nov 07 2023

At first listen this seems to be a vapid record, compiling adolescent love songs with little meaning. Utilizing golden boy voices to make thier point. The songs sound similar and it's easy to thi k they are all similar. However after a 2nd and 3rd listen, I focused a little bit more intensely on the co tent and found deeper meaning and variety in the songs. At times, this record is surprisingly deep, with lyrical content discussing a range of situations. Musically the record sounds great and inventive. Fave songs: wouldn't it be nice God only knows Caroline, no I just wasn't made fir these times

Everything Must Go by Manic Street Preachers
Nov 08 2023

An well made album for sure, but not really extraordinary in my opinion. I struggle to see why it is on this list as it doesn't feel like it provides anything outside of generic sounding pop noise. It doesn't really do much for me and feels like the music you'd hear in the background of an episode of One Tree Hill or Dawson's Creek. It sounds quite utterly replaceable with the other 200 pop artists that were prevalent during this period. With this being said, it fits this 90's pop rock vibe. But I do not feel like it does anything special. I also don't like this genre, almost at all... so there's that. Fave Songs: A Design For Life Enola/Alone Australia

Time (The Revelator) by Gillian Welch
Nov 09 2023

A really pleasant folk album. Despite not being the biggest fan of folk, I can appreciate and admire the work done by Gillian Welch on this record. It reminds me a little of Elizabeth Cotten who I admire greatly. Skews a little more country than anything Cotten released but still similar. At times the album dragged on. I dreamed a Highway is a great song that probably should've been decreased to a half or a third of its actual runtime. Ultimately, Time (The Revelator) is a solid 3 stars but really scratching on 4 stars. Favorite songs: Elvis Presley Blues Revelator About half of I Dream a Highway

Beauty And The Beat by The Go-Go's
Nov 10 2023

A really good album by the Go-Go's. It's a real feel good record. Surf rock pop is probably the best way to describe it. The vocals are great, the instrumentals are great. Not a legendary album but one that's really good. Favorite songs: We got the beat Our lips are sealed

Chirping Crickets by Buddy Holly & The Crickets
Nov 13 2023

A serviceable, pleasant album, but nit really my taste in music. I can see why al it like it but I really don't care. It's good but not something that I care to continue listening to.

Live And Dangerous by Thin Lizzy
Nov 14 2023

I never really liked live albums so despite this having great songs, I didn't mesh with it too much. Additionally, while thin lizzy is a pretty famous band, I've never thought too much of them. It has some good songs and a good live album but ultimately meh when compared to other studio albums.

Morrison Hotel by The Doors
Nov 15 2023

Pride of Melbourne... FL, Jim Morrison and the Doors produced an excellent bluesy, early, rockabilly album. Quite honestly there isn't a dull moment with this album. It actually makes me want more from this band. Checking out of the hotel of life after a brief stay of 27 years, I wonder what other legendary records Morrison could have lent his voice to if his stay was a bit longer. Morrison Hotel is frankly an excellent album and undoubtedly influential to the history of rock and roll. The instrumentals, the vocals, the mixing... all great. Easy 5 stars. Favorite Songs: Waiting for the Sun Peace Frog Land Ho! Maggie M'Gill

Blonde On Blonde by Bob Dylan
Nov 16 2023

Not the biggest fan of Bob Dylan. Obviously a legend and his songwriting chops are commendable. I do feel like his songs are a bit formulaic and his vocals are quite frankly bad. Not much of a knock but when evaluating this album it needs consideration. Solid 4 stars.

Stand! by Sly & The Family Stone
Nov 20 2023

Excellent album. Perhaps one of my favorite. It has a really cool sound that is emblematic of the early 70s period. Not replicated in today's artists yet truly timeless. This is an album I will definitely revisit and deserves to be high on the 1001 album list. Favorite songs: Stand You can make it if you try Don't call me.....

Deserter's Songs by Mercury Rev
Nov 22 2023

The album did not feel like anything special to me. It wasn't bad and wasn't particularly spectacular. It really sounded like many other forgettable albums that are produced by quite forgettable bands. I've rated it two stars not because I think it's bad but because the album didn't really do anything for me. Despite just finishing it, I really could not say a song that really stuck with me besides Holes... maybe. Even though Holes is a good song but nothing remarkable, and that is a good summation of the entire album.

Heartattack And Vine by Tom Waits
Nov 23 2023

This wasn't really wasn't my favorite album. I can't say I am ever in the mood for this type of music. I can understand why people like it though. Technically, a good album, with good instrumentals and distinctive vocals, but certainly not my type of music. I listened to the entire record, but probably will never do it again.

I See You by The xx
Nov 24 2023

This is one of those albums that I didn't care for at first but as I listened more, it grew on me. A very chill electronic indie, rock anthem with glimpses of drone at times. This is possibly one of the youngest albums on this list, as it was released less than 10 years ago, yet I feel like it's inclusion in this list is well warranted. The mixing of the album really makes it good studying and working music. Not necessarily the best in all occasions, but no song, and no album is applicable to all of life's situations. Yet this is a well crafted album, emblematic of its genre and pleasing to the ears. Fave songs: Dangerous Brave For you Performance

This Year's Model by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
Nov 27 2023

The album is alright. I somewhat understand why others may like it but I found the instrumentals average and the vocals to be a little annoying. Not to say it is a terrible album, just not one that I would care to listen to on my free time. It would be 3 stars if I could get over the adolescent whine that is the vocalist's voice. Favorite song is really the least hated song, and that's no action.

Figure 8 by Elliott Smith
Nov 28 2023

Interesting album for sure. I didn't care for it at the present moment but I feel that at a different time I would enjoy it immensely. A chill, really well produced and mixed album. Elliot Smith's vocals really fit the melancholic tone of the album. I really liked the variety of instruments displayed in this record. Favorite Songs: Son of Sam Everything Means Nothing To Me Everything Reminds Me of Her

A Northern Soul by The Verve
Nov 29 2023

A good album but not really great. One that I couldn't see myself listening to front to back but I could like a song or two from it.

Kings Of The Wild Frontier by Adam & The Ants
Dec 01 2023

Really great album to be honest. It was especially interesting as I have never heard of AATA before so this was an entirely new experience. There are some songs I will certainly go back to. Not sure if I find the album to be excellent but it is really good. Favorite songs: The Human Beings Los Rancheros Don't be Square

S&M by Metallica
Dec 04 2023
Dummy by Portishead
Dec 05 2023
Tidal by Fiona Apple
Dec 12 2023
Dec 13 2023

Great early 2000's rock album. Very punk, pretty alternative. HTSITYS is a classic album but Main Offender and Automatic Schmuck are also great.

The Blueprint by JAY Z
Dec 18 2023

Pretty above average so I would give a 4 but he beefed with Nas so that automatically knocks him down a star. Solid 3.
