A Little Deeper
Ms. DynamitePhenomenal. Quality production, sharp lyricism, multiple genres - fantastic debut that clearly draws a lot of inspiration from Lauryn Hill, while remaining true to her British and Caribbean roots.

Day 1/1001 Has a more country/folk sound to it than rock, not sure why it gets classified predominantly into the latter. Certainly not my preferred genre, but around/slightly above average when compared to other similar projects I've heard. IMO the best songs here are where they really lean into more of a rock sound (it blends in well with the country streak heard throughout), but some parts (especially the 2nd quarter) are too homogenous/indulgent in that country sound for me to enjoy it.
Was really intrigued by the balance between folk and rock here. Had some captivating background instrumentals (marimba/xylo was particularly interesting), and lyrics were poignant as well. Definitely worth a revisit
Day 3/1001 First time listening to a piano jazz album - why did it take me all this time? The improv is so joyous, vibrant and bouncy - all the more astounding after reading about the difficulties with organizing the concert beforehand. Phenomenal work of art.
Day 4/1001 Groovy, funky music from the golden era - what's not to like? 'City, Country, City' and the title track are particularly excellent - the length really helps to explore the sounds.
Day 5/1001 Pop perfection - Lorde at her best. Her poignant lyricism and Jack Antonoff's layered production create amazing microcosms that unbelievably somehow form a project greater than the sum of its parts. Must-listen.
Really enjoy the sounds here - the freedom they're given to flesh out pays dividends and you really can hear the influence this has on future acts. Not a fan of the vocals though - they sound far too feeble at times and very monotonous/unengaging (but more than made up for by the instrumentals)
There's snippets I find interesting ... but too chaotic for me overall. More cacophony than music overall
Not really a fan of reggae - everything sounds so similar to me. Was somewhat intrigued by the uniqueness of the opening track, but quickly devolved into the same old tropes. I'm sure this album holds significance for its fans, but it really just isn't for me :(
Have to admit ... this one really grew one me. Felt indifferent about it at the beginning but by the end was very captivated by the melancholic nature of the lyrics and the structure of the songs. Worth a re-listen.
Honestly went into this expecting to hate it, so was surprised I comfortably made it through the album. Was very unmemorable though ... nothing really piqued my interest that much
OMG this was AWFUL ... just noise throughout.
Classic ... such an effortless blend of different of genres and styles into their folk sound, all with a calm and relaxing feel throughout.
Glimpses of hope, but mostly mediocrity. Don't think I'll find replay value in here
Wow ... phenomenal, epitome of indie rock. Songs are so catchy and are excellently written and mixed
Country certainly isn't my favourite genre, but Cash's charisma and personality really stood out and captivated me throughout the album
I wasn't big fan of the first half - the vocals seemed very monotonic and uninspired, and had a generic feel throughout. But wow the second half was amazing ...
Had some interesting moments, but wasn't very memorable
This is so weird ... but I love how unique it is
Mellow, yet purposeful songwriting
Either I don't possess the understanding required to appreciate this, or this is the worst jumble of noise created by man ...
Phenomenal ... you can clearly hear the inspiration from acts of the past as well as the uniqueness that combines to make this album so captivating
Wow, I never thought I'd love country music but here it is. Such a calm, peaceful vibe with Willie's genius evident throughout.
This was a nice listen - really like the mix of genres incorporated here. Perhaps overstayed its welcome a little bit, but overall a solid body of work.
Didn't hate anything, but it was so mid and forgettable to me
I may be more punky than I thought :)
Was alright, though I can't help but feel that she didn't really find the perfect sound for herself on this
It's not my kind of country, but it is good country - Dolly is always amazing, and this does make you reminisce of the olden days back when the genre wasn't the cesspool it is today
Sometimes too experimental for my liking, but definitely has its moments
Peak soul music from the Queen herself. This is what the genre was always meant to be - music that truly touches you within
The album that we never asked for, but needed ... futuristic even to this day. So interesting to compare the minimalistic production here to the maximalism of MBDTF - you can really hear the influence Rick Rubin had on this album. Definitely not everyone's cup of tea, but boy does it really click when it does. (should mention I don't condone anything this man says, but think it's important for this exercise to judge the art independently of the artist)
Certainly not bad by any means, but nowhere near McCartney's best work - found myself disengaged at times. Such a great closer though (the loopback is a nice touch)!
Had it's amazing moments, but inconsistent on the whole
This is phenomenal - all the more so considering it was live. A bit indulgent, yes, but well warranted by guys who really know what they're doing. A hard rock masterpiece.
Solid pop album, really takes you inside the mind of a strong, powerful, confident woman
You get what you expect going into this - nothing more or less ....
This is top-tier pop, wow - love the funky sound, melodies and longer song length. Some of the lyrics feel overtly sexy but sonically this is a great listen
Two great opening tracks, then felt banal throughout. Liked the use of the sax though, touched on some interesting points about consumerism too
Not bad objectively, but definitely not my cup of tea. Was surprising to see Damon Albarn as the frontman here - interesting how his work evolved into something I came to enjoy a lot more with Gorillaz
Some good songs, but wasn't very consistent throughout
This is trash ... nothing redeeming about this :/
Phenomenal. Quality production, sharp lyricism, multiple genres - fantastic debut that clearly draws a lot of inspiration from Lauryn Hill, while remaining true to her British and Caribbean roots.
A classic. Dre's production is unmatched, and the intricate wordplay and storytelling lay the foundation to introduce you to the alter ego of one of the greatest wordsmiths of all time.
Was surprisingly boring to me... even this feels generous
One of the great modern prog-rock albums. Epitomizes everything right about the genre - bold, innovative with unique themes and captivating storytelling. Phenomenal
Very calm vibe w/ mellow production, good for a night listen. Was worried about this one cause of the John Cale earlier, turns out he wasn't involved in this one (maybe someday I'll find something of his I enjoy)
Undoubtedly a powerful record, but the fantasy theme just doesn't hit as hard as I'd like
Enjoyed this far more than I'd like to admit...
So smooth, very laid-back. Really wanted to give this a 5 but didn't click with me to the extent I was hoping it would
Delightfully eclectic and experimental, with just the right touch of jazz influences
Phenomenal display of prog-rock from one of the greatest bands of all time. Monstrous, powerful tracks enveloped by the masterpiece that is "Shine On You Crazy Diamond", it is a testament to the genius of Pink Floyd that this is somehow only their 3rd greatest album to me
Solid Britpop record
Such a perplexing mix of quality bangers and absolute mediocrity
My ears are bleeding from the torture
This sounds super dated, which is interesting to note but not something I'd hold against the record. What I DO despise though is the terrible vocal performance - the lyrics are mid at best and the melodies don't suit the production whatsoever.
They seem like they could make decent music if they tried, but OMG this might be the most pretentious group I've ever had to suffer through
Sounded very dated, although I can see how others have built on and evolved it
