Classic full of classic songs. Incredible 5 song run to start the record. Catchier and hookier than Astral Weeks, much more immediately engaging but I do think it loses some of the majesty that Astral Weeks had. Into the Mystic is one of the greatest songs of all time, can listen to it endlessly. Love the production on this, feels very warm and the added horns and back up vocals add a ton of depth. Impeccable run tune too, nothing feels over stated and at 38 min and change it’s easy enough to pop on for repeated listens. Great record
A staggering work of bountiful melodies, classic songs and a transcendence of what made the Beach Boys so popular in the first place. Literally drove Brian Wilson insane. A groundbreaking work.
Sooo boring. A bunch of RnB covers with one original song on it. A few bops for sure, but basically zero excitement. If it wasn’t the Rolling Stones, would anyone care?
Nice little surprise. Not generally the biggest Police fan, although Outlandos D’Amour is also a great listen. Very eclectic, almost proggy art pop record with a couple of their biggest hits on it. Still definitely has a bit of that ska vibe on some tracks but a ton of growth and variety to the sound. Syncronicity I and II are probably the standouts for me, very good all around. Interesting that all the singles are on the back half, I like it when a record does this.
Some good moments and songs but overall I found it pretty boring. My first experience with real tango. I’m sure there’s a lot to love here but it just didn’t resonate for me and the last 3 songs especially were a slog for me to get through.
The king of the croon! Amazing arrangements, lovely uplifting songs, beautiful voice. A stone cold classic and one of Franks absolute best.
Doesn’t have the state legendary status that You’re Livinng All Over Me does, but song for song is probably my fav Dino Jr album. Really appreciate the improved production it just lets Js guitar and Lous thick bass to shine. Freak Scene is an all time opener
A fun punk classic. Hear a lot of influences to Sleater-Kinney on here. Love all the sax. Probably not something I will return to a lot but a fun short listen.
Stellar goth rock album. Hilariously melodramatic and catchy, the guitars shimmer. The drumming on this is also impeccable stuff. Not the biggest fan of The Cure in general, besides this and Pornography but it’s hard to deny this.
Decent album that didn’t really fully click with me. Something I’d probably listen to on a cold winter night, or walking in the snow or something. Kinda felt like portishead light a little bit to me but some beautiful songs on it nonetheless
Complete surprise. Not usually my main type of listening but this was powerful, soulful and full of great songs. Plus the MF DOOM sample on the first song! Definitely something I’ll come back to.
Hackneyed and corny
Incredible album, not only Talking Heads magnum opus, but maybe the best production work that Eno has done to date. The sample based songs, the infectious grooves it’s all so good. Plus, Once in a Lifetime! Too 10, maybe Top 5 for me. Endlessly replayable, playful and weird while still being listenable. A band at the height of their power coupled with a production wizard.
Why does this hold up so well.
