Ghosteen by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds

This album is beautiful, but doesn’t really appeal to me. It’s the perfect example of music as art vs music as entertainment. It’s beautiful and haunting, well don’t technically, I just have little to no desire to listen to it.

Electric Warrior by T. Rex
Dec 27 2024

Groove, big chill Cosmic dancer sad What’s a jeepster Way more sad cowboy depth Bang a gong have heard before (this is CCR?) Peak 70s sex innuendo It really doesn’t matter at all, life’s a game Rip off- crunchy chords prog baby, that’s a math rock precursor if I ever heard it

Endtroducing..... by DJ Shadow
Dec 31 2024

Very cool concept for an album, opening tracks are so open and honest, can’t imagine taking all these samples and layering back in 96 Metallica sample was cool af Organ Donor is a banger Such a chill, atmospheric, melancholy album.

Dummy by Portishead
Jan 01 2025

Beautiful, haunting, not for me. Little too drone-y for me. The whole thing feels very artsy and I can hear its influence on other things, but it’s a hard listen for me. Good background music for me. It could be sweet really growing on me Wandering Star. Super melodic, wonder if Eminem listened to this, the riff is very rock and roll Big Hikaru utada vibes on some of these middle tracks Jesus, Roads hits like a truck. Brutal. Profound. Maybe I’m a changed man, I could listen to this again

Elvis Presley by Elvis Presley
Jan 02 2025

It’s Elvis, you gotta love him. One of the founders or rock and roll. Voice is iconic. Guitar work is great. Soul, country, folk all come together in a unique package. Also is Elvis early emo? I think so

The Band by The Band
Jan 03 2025

This is prime Americana. The fusion of folk country and rock elements are solid. I don’t particularly care for it although I recognize its significance. Look out Cleveland was a standout for me as it gets more into rock territory.

Boston by Boston
Jan 06 2025

I mean, come on. THE classic rock album haha. I think this album is amazing. It inspired so much rock music after it and the production is incredible. Just clean.

Lust For Life by Iggy Pop
Jan 07 2025

This is a masterpiece imo. The album really speaks to me. It’s got the core of punk and grunge and emo but all the way from the 70s. There’s a sadness that I just love.

Ghosteen by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Jan 09 2025

This album is beautiful, but doesn’t really appeal to me. It’s the perfect example of music as art vs music as entertainment. It’s beautiful and haunting, well don’t technically, I just have little to no desire to listen to it.

Permission to Land by The Darkness
Jan 10 2025

When this band is firing on all cylinders, that is really going for it tempo and performance wise and the singer is belting in his natural range, only dipping into the falsetto for a bit of range or effect, I actually think they’re killer. Unfortunately. Much of this album has the band coasting down a hill. Lots of tracks with little to no energy, the ballad was awful, when the singer spends too much time in falsetto it sounds a bit silly. And of course, the single, I believe in a thing called love is phenomenal l. It’s a love letter to glam.

Transformer by Lou Reed
Jan 11 2025

The apathy in the lyrics is great. Can hear the Bowie influence on him. Love it. It’s all very drab in a colorful fun way. Original emo? Idk.

Bossanova by Pixies
Jan 12 2025

This is cool. More punk than dolittle. Properly angsty.

The Wildest! by Louis Prima
Jan 13 2025

That was a ton of fun to listen to. Raucous, good time. Big energy. Would love to grab a drink with Louis Prima

Gorillaz by Gorillaz
Jan 14 2025

Honestly not crazy about this album. It has the one insane pop hit, which I’m not even that big a fan of, but the rest of it drags for me.

1984 by Van Halen
Jan 15 2025

A classic. Love this album, even the non hits on this are killer. Girl Gone Bad is way proggier than I would’ve thought. Just a kick ass 80s metal album.

Jan 16 2025

Opening tracks were killer, very dark and industrial with punk elements. End of album becomes brighter and poppier and was less of a fan. But the energy was intense, peak 90s electronic music.

Sweet Baby James by James Taylor
Jan 17 2025

Beautiful voice, great singer, surprisingly good guitar work. The album was a bit all over the place with a mix of folk, R&B, rock, and pop, but it was all great.

Foo Fighters by Foo Fighters
Jan 18 2025

It’s fun listening to their first album and how much Dave Grohl already has that Foo Fighters signature sound the first time around. You can definitely hear Kurt’s influence on this

You Are The Quarry by Morrissey
Jan 19 2025

Love this album. Morrisey is ever the melodramatic crooner. This album walked so MCR could run. Songs like “I like you” speak to my inner teenager

Kind Of Blue by Miles Davis
Jan 20 2025

Beautiful and haunting. Maybe one of the most influential jazz albums of all time with some absolute monsters playing on it. I’m not super well versed in jazz, but am a classically trained musician and it can’t be understated how many guys point to this album as an influence. I can think of few things more enjoyable than sitting in a dark room with a glass of brandy and playing this album, LOUD.

Beauty And The Beat by The Go-Go's
Jan 21 2025

Actually loved this and didn’t think I would. It’s a solid 80s pop album that is so close to being a glam metal album. I mean if you had put a shredder behind this it would’ve been right at home with bands like Poison or Queensryche or Ray. Funnily enough I think the two singles while mainstream hits are two of the weakest tracks on the album.

Bad Company by Bad Company
Jan 22 2025

Solid classic rock album. Title track is certainly iconic, but none of if was super appealing to me. Just feels like a bit of a rehash of 70s rock

Bongo Rock by Incredible Bongo Band
Jan 23 2025

This was a ton of fun. I could listen to 6 hours of this stuff.

You're Living All Over Me by Dinosaur Jr.
Jan 24 2025

Not a fan of this band or this album. The vocals have all the energy and cadence of ordering a pizza The guitars drone lethargically over chord changes It’s like rock music as heard through a plastic cup. The production makes the whole thing muddy and soft and sound permanently far away. I just can’t get into Dinosaur Jr.

Gentlemen by The Afghan Whigs
Jan 26 2025

Wow. Melancholy and bitter, this is an amazing breakup album, I could’ve used this at points in my life haha.

Real Life by Magazine
Jan 27 2025

Solid punk album, I think the first 3rd could have been cut, it was a bit long with not a ton of variety, but I think the back 2/3rds were solid.

Blue Lines by Massive Attack
Jan 28 2025

Like the world’s longest elevator ride or a walk through a strip mall. The whole thing is just so uninspired to me. Like if easy listening was a bit too intense for you, put on this album. Yeah this is the 2nd massive attack album I’ve heard and I just hate their music.

Jan 29 2025

The whole thing is dropping with cool. Just feels stylish and laid back. Like the soundtrack to a great JRPG. Very Gekkoukan High lol.

Exile In Guyville by Liz Phair
Jan 30 2025

Loved this album. The almost spoken word style vocals and very clean yet muddled production created a really cool sound. The lyrical content was raw and filthy, made me feel like I was in her shoes. Just a great album.

Da Capo by Love
Jan 31 2025

Solid psych rock album from the 60s

25 by Adele
Feb 01 2025

What can I say that hasn’t been said about Adele? Her voice is powerful, oozing with tone and richer than eggnog. The songwriting is simple but the melodies are interesting and again, that voice. She took over the pop world for a reason.

American Idiot by Green Day
Feb 02 2025

A classic. Glad to finally listen to more than just the singles. The rest of the album is just as good or better. Love the final track

Siamese Dream by The Smashing Pumpkins
Feb 03 2025

I like smashing pumpkins, but the album feels bloated. The singles are iconic, some of the jam tracks, cool as they are, take away from the overall album.

Led Zeppelin by Led Zeppelin
Feb 04 2025

A legendary rock album. The vocals and guitars trading phrases, the drums going crazy, this album is a gem and would inspire generations of rock and metal to come.

Boy In Da Corner by Dizzee Rascal
Feb 05 2025

Early grime rap. Not my typical listening choice, but I do have a soft spot for it. The industrial elements in the production and dissonant melodic elements with slightly off kilter beats give the whole thing a cool sound. The delivery of the rap is full of energy and it’s a good listen overall.

A Girl Called Dusty by Dusty Springfield
Feb 06 2025

Shocked how modern this album sounds. Her voice is amazingly powerful. Liked this way more than I thought I would like a 1964 pop album.

Bat Out Of Hell by Meat Loaf
Feb 07 2025

It's over the top and cheesy in the best way. Like Jack Black's fictional rock persona is somehow less cheesy than Meat Loaf in real life. That being said, it's a bit dated and I'm left wanting a little more rock and a little less opera, but I still love it for what it is.

Live At Leeds by The Who
Feb 08 2025

I usually roll my eyes when I see critical reviews like “best live rock album” But holy shit they were right. It’s so fucking good.

Walking Wounded by Everything But The Girl
Feb 10 2025

It’s 90s electronica. Shocked how popular this genre got, there’s just not enough for it to stand out for me.

The Wall by Pink Floyd
Feb 11 2025

Like most rock opera albums I think it’s a bit bloated, but overall it is a masterpiece. While I won’t be listening cover to cover on a regular basis, comfortably numb and brick pt2 will forever be in the rotation.

Germfree Adolescents by X-Ray Spex
Feb 12 2025

It’s 1970s Brit-punk with a sax. Mostly not my jam. Identity is the stand out track for me. Everything else feels very Johnny Quest and I’m not crazy about it.

Butterfly by Mariah Carey
Feb 13 2025

Listening to Mariah sing is like listening to Steve Vai play guitar for me. I don’t always care for the overall compositions, but I can not stop listening because she’s is so freaking talented. The tone and flexibility across registers is so mesmerizing. She can sing anything and I’d want to listen.

Safe As Milk by Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band
Feb 14 2025

Not a huge fan. Electricity was a stand out track for me, but overall kind of boring blues with not great instrumentation.

Metallica by Metallica
Feb 15 2025

When the best metal band in the world became the best rock band in the world. The black album is divisive for its departure in style from “classic” Metallica but its success is undeniable and well deserved. The songs become much slower and groovier while still having that Metallica edge to them. James’ vocals never stop cutting through the mix like a hot knife and the whole things just feels so good. There’s a reason Enter Sandman and Sad but True get played by even the most vanilla of rock n roll listeners. Metallica brought hard rock to the masses. This album is a gem of American music. All while having one of the worst professional drummers of all time.

Achtung Baby by U2
Feb 16 2025

Not my favorite U2 album, but not bad. Mysterious Ways of course being the smash hit it is, Love is Blindness was a nice goodbye to the album.

Dust by Screaming Trees
Feb 17 2025

Mom can we have 90s Seattle music? We have 90s Seattle music at home This just feels like watered down Pearl Jam/temple of the dog/green river/soundgarden

Appetite For Destruction by Guns N' Roses
Feb 18 2025

A drug fueled rock n roll adventure with a few lightning in a bottle singles. Slash seriously saves the record and cements himself in rock n roll history with this album

Odessa by Bee Gees
Feb 20 2025

It’s a 60s concept album by some dudes that sing really well. I think people hate on this because it’s The Bee Gees but honestly, it’s good that they did experiment. Trying to loook at this objectively, I think it suffers from a problem many concept albums have which is it never goes anywhere. Even “The Wall” has another brick pt2 to grab the listener eventually. Overall I’m glad they got to explore, but I don’t think it amounted to much.

The ArchAndroid by Janelle Monáe
Feb 22 2025

Amazing album. Overall it was too varied in style for me to truly enjoy it as a whole album, but it felt more like a family style meal at a fancy restaurant where you’re getting bits and pieces of excellence and taking it in bit by bit. Come Alive and Neone Valley Street in particular were amazing tracks for me. Super solid and interesting listen.
