Green Day
Not a fan - repetitive except Longview which I quite enjoyed. The rest largely blended into one another in a mush. That being said, I can observe and respect this album's influence on the late 90s/early 2000s teen media craze : it's a soundtrack to angst, awkwardness and self discovery.

James Brown Live At The Apollo
James Brown
still hate live albums - high pitched screaming from the audience was soo distracting throughout. In spite of this + considering it was recorded in 1962, it sounds pretty great. loveeed the instrumentals, my favourite tracks were Think, Night Train and of course the Please, Please, Please medley. Drinking game if you want to die : a shot every time James Brown cries 'Help Me'

A Rush Of Blood To The Head
Coldplay
God put a smile upon your face is a GREAT song, that aside there does NOT need to be more than one Coldplay album on the 1001 list (even one's a bit much). This whining soft rock stadium slop becomes a lot better when you're happy and drunk on a train home from manchester - thanks Elliot for making coldplay enjoyable for 40ish mins

Bob Dylan
One of Dylan's MANY masterpieces - the first one I ever listened to in full when I was first discovering his music.

The Band
idc what anyone else says this was BRILLIANT ✋ they're still just as good without Dylan. The weight is a classic, other personal highlights were tears of rage and lonesome suzie but picking favourites was really hard this time. This album is another piece of irrefutable evidence that the late 60s gave us the best music in modern history!

If You Can Believe Your Eyes & Ears
The Mamas & The Papas
Listening with my RØDEs and a dac/amp so this sound quality is incredible. Fuming I wasn't born a boomer who could've experienced the 60s in california as they happened. Copying the Beatles but everyone else was (listen to straight shooter again if you disagree with me) and it works because I quite enjoyed it! Straight Shooter and You Baby were personal favourites. Definitely not the most interesting the 60s had to offer by any means but it'll be a good relisten in the summer. Wish we could give half ratings on here bc I'd probably put it as a 3.5. Still hate John Phillips.

We Are Family
Sister Sledge
Saw this and was like 'oh no I'm really not a disco fan' - I still don't think I am but 3 songs from this album made it to my liked songs so ?
I really detest the title track whoops it's soo overplayed
He's the greatest dancer, thinking of you and easier to love are bangers (although the first goes on a little long)
Struggling to rate this as the ones I didn't like were hard skips but the ones I liked I loved, overall probably wouldn't listen in full again. It's categorically a good album and opened my mind to a genre I thought wasn't for me - would be 3 but I'm kicking it up to 4

Ian Dury
what the fuck haha
this is what Americans hear in their head when they see Brits eating beans on toast.
update : these are some of the hardest lyrics of all time, Billericay Dickie and sweet gene Vincent are generational bangers
(I do really dislike partial to your abracadabra)
I ended up listening to this TWICE and yk what it grows on you.

Queens of the Stone Age
Queens of the Stone Age
Taking me 2 days to get through this. Unobjectionable 2000s rock but SO repetitive and derivative I was sat waiting for it to be over.
'Hispanic Impressions' was particularly insulting : clearly playing at being experimental but was uncreative and maddening.
Sonically the instrumentals are fine but unremarkable, vocals are whiny.
Honestly knocking down to a one because of the myriad of better and (emphasis on this one) MORE INFLUENTIAL albums that could be in its place.
Just listen to nirvana instead I'm begging you

The Smiths
while I'm here I'm going to formally protest the fact there's 3 Morrissey solo albums on this list (shocking)
As much as I shit on the smiths this is a very good album, probably the best despite the absence of the classics I liked when I was 13 (this actually made for a fresher listening experience tbh).
