Interesting percussion
Jam band, alt adult.
Safe LP, rocking chair jams
Which way will the vocals go?
Like: Cut 3 "Waterfall", Cut 4 & Cut 12 "Fools Gold"
Kate Bush vocals was a nice add. (Dolly Parton vocal would have been interesting.
More commercial LP and a time piece as an explore in technology.
Stewart Copeland of the Police involved on some tracks showed Peter G reach.
Like the LP
Simple instrumentation. Solid vocals and writing.
Liked track 2, pretty powerful and track 4.
Pop that is somewhat timeless with the simple piano selections.
Mr. Gum.
My first Rap LP listen, ever!
The samples give BE a 70's vibe. I like this.
Some off the song ends are super cold.
Strong; The Corner & They Say
Raw. Tortured vocals with emotional honestly. Janis should of stayed with the "The Holding Co." Joplin was never better.
I love that R. Crumb did the album cover for CHEAP THRILLs. This album had some interesting production choices with the fakey live audience.
Favorite song "I Need A Man..."
It's a short LP. Songs were quick. It seemed dated A/F. Some of the guitar "solo's" very understated. Folk rock with layer vocals...influenced by the BYRDS?
Safe and predictable. I was hoping for more. By the way, Ringo is a great drummer!
So much here, new lead singer Johnson who replaces Scott who dies in a Renault due to "death by misadventure". The LP is black in mourning and the album was recorded in the Bahamas at a sketch studio.
Simple and aggressive. That's ROCK!
Like: "Hells Bells" (big-ass bell production element), "Shake A Leg"
Odd and a hard listen. "Dance Or Die" and "Wondaland" were likeable. I was looking for the Metropolis and futuristic buzz...sort of there. This effort could have benefited from editing.
A sauna with gummies listen?
Snuff out!
Recorded in mono and the second loudest live band ever...
My Bloody Valentine has an interesting story, complicated members etc.
By the way Loveless was a band too.
The LP is a sonic trip with the bending of sound, the buried vocals and really needs to be listen in it's entirety. Did not know this album existed.
Liked: blown a wish, come in alone, and I could see "soon" released as a single.
Xanthan, Mr. Gum
Voodoo Chile album version is way different than the single. Enjoyed how simple and raw feel of the LP. Loads of recording and sound experimentation. Weird to think that this album was release in cassette format. Really like this album
For me, the back story is what makes this recording magical. The power of ignorance on the promoters part, the dinged up master, the odd setting and late night early morning concert time. Go with what you have and make the best of it.
With that in mind the enjoyment of hearing a master finding his way on a abused POS instrument. It was such a interesting audio journey. I found myself listening numerous times. Back story a must & mood is the other. F-Yah!
Todd Rundgren has a nice voice and the he enjoys creating different sounds. "Hello It's Me" is my favorite. The power of editing from 4-sides to 2-sides would have been more commercial but that's not Todd Rundgren. Enjoyed the false starts and adlibs.
Again so much here. It's so hard to separate his violent death, his beating by his father as he grew up. What a wonderful LP. Greasy A/F! Well produced, like the big bass and percussion. Liked "Ball" & "On". The LP flowed from song to song. As a little kid I recall Marvin's skull cap and took to sporting one too.
Tracey Thorns vocal are amazing...expressive and rich. Just effortless! Liked "Single", "Good Cop" & "Flipside". Interesting how they found there band name. I made French toast on a Sunday morning while listen to Walking Wounded. It paired well.
Radiohead IN RAINBOW it not an LP to "rock out" to. No rock horns, Pay-What-You-Want model was a ballsy one off release effort. Found the LP enjoyable.
Hi,
I feel Side1 in stronger than Side 2. Debs vocal range was unexpected and to read the producer felt the members were sub-par is a tribute to getting everything he could out of a lazy band. NY v. LA thingster.
Raw A/F! Lots 1-minute or less "song/rants". I like the Ramones so therefore I enjoyed this. Roll-up the garage door and let'em have it. Weird drum fills from Robert Gotobed (fun name). Now to find this LP in the original format, lay it on the turntable, turn the gain just to the point of feedback then place a penny of the cartridge head...
Doubt and hopelessness seem to be a common issue with creatives. But Moby pushed through. PLAY is so well done and there is 60+ minutes of music. A unique approach to marketing the release. I think PLAY needs to be listen to several times, as there is so much there. "Porcelain" was the track that was familiar.
That was hard to listen to & it was only 30-minutes! Like the original name of the band JET SET. Interesting to note that this LP was released in both mono and stereo.
You can hear a difference in Elvis and interpretations with respect to phrasing and his vocal range is bigger. The band behind him was f'n amazing. The recording quality was impressive. I will listen to this again when mowing the lawn. The Big E.
They worked Elvis like an old John Deere diesel lawnmower. 30+ movies by this time, why? So many people making money off Elvis. Big Elvis posse leaching and taking advantage of his work ethic which was Sisyphus like...keep pushing that rock! Of course he was drugged up. His voice quality was all over the place. Also E wrapping with the spoken word was a hoot. Elvis get a 4 because of the weight of the barnacles he carried.
Getz was a mess with drugs, alcohol and rage...the saxophone choose him. Astrud hanging out in the studio and asked to to sing the English part in "The Gal From I", and being paid $125 for a record that sold 5-million...not right. This gentle LP was recorded in 2-days, recording only what is necessary. This is a Sunday morning, pancake making background music. Understated and clean. Ching-ching-ching!
Not a Emo consumer. Felt like more. Sad that the lead singer, Robert Froberg passed in 2023.
Liked the "Luau" and "Plow" tracks. Not a lot depth.
Coming out of Chicago then moving to LA EWF put together an amazing band. Did not know that there 3 brothers from the same family, White. Need to see the movie that this LP is associated with. Liked "Reasons", "Africano" & "Shining Star".
BS has a crazy amount of session players on this short minutes wise LP. Scares me to think they let Neil Young near a microphone. This is not for me. Boo.
Naked a/f and a fun listen that's hard to take serious. Anthrax did a version of "Damage". Listening to a vinyl copy, 'cause clicks & pops only add to the raw. It's a 2AM car listen on an open highway in Utah.
Liked "Natural's Not In It" & "At Home He's A Tourist"
Ok, I'll give it a spin. Puns galore.
This is a Saturday night at the bar located on the city limit line. Lot's of sweaty beer bottles and trips to the bath room. Is this early Bro-Co? If your a country band you need the steel guitar and Joe Ely does.
Listened to this album while mowing the 14,000 steps lawn. The SIGN OF THE TIMES is better than I remember. I really like a "Beautiful Night", my new mowing mixtape member. Weird to read that he sang into a Sennheiser 411 microphone for this LP.
This LP is something I would NOT sit down to listen to (still mowing). Where's the rock? It's dated and not entertaining. I wanted to like this from 1975. "Opera" used all 24-tracks of the Studer when it was not necessary. For the love of Mary, a country tune!
Such a visual LP. Both the movie and LP can stand on stand on it's own. Hearing "Purple Rain" brought back memories of his goose bump inducing performance for "Purple Rain" at the Super Bowl in the rain and profound sadness of hearing on the radio that Prince had passed followed by a dedication, "Purple Rain". This was way better than I remember and as a Minnesota native, this hit home as Prince was one of us. Weird, private and misunderstood understood. Purple Pride!
Snow has returned (joy) as the bi-polar winter of '25 rolls on HeavenORLV hits it's mark! So many albums are created of of diversity, a moment in time. This is one. Enjoyed 50-50 Clown, Heaven Or Vegas. Such an different sound, is it pre-Goth?
So much to hate. Stupid band name spelling, use of Beach Boy producer, David Crosby, etc. Found a mono 1967 version that was transcribed from vinyl with its clicks and pops. That was nice. One interesting track was CTA-102. Not a Burds/Berds fan.
This work never felt like a movement in the day but an annoying side-sound. It's a wee whiney. Liked Grohl's drumming. Lounge Act & Territorial Pissings.
It's a spoken word piece? Frank Sinatra could "sing" every song IF on orange micro-dots, acid. Remember to "ride the snake". Found a rare mono upload with all the clicks and pops in. Back in the day we played this album to clear out the bar at closing time AND IT WORKED!
The Canadian Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen Love & Hate pretentious as hell...FU!
Black Sabbath Black Sabbath recorded at a time when when there were hardened and full. Recorded in a day and mixed the next. Even the album cover is organic. Then to be pissed on? Love that LP with all the clicks and pops, wow and flutter.
David Bowie The Next Day recorded in secret and with talent. I was not aware of this album his 25th. "Valentines Day" & "Where Are We Now" stood out.
70's all over it. A wee bit Holiday Inn Lounge and Earth, Wind and Fire. I feel the band is funky fun but the falsetto at times seemed too much. LP suffers from sameness. Liked the redo of The Doobie Brothers' "Listen To The Music" - funky syrup. The cover versions are the strongest part of this LP.
DEVIL W/OUT A CAUSE is never boring, it's is well produced, better than I remember. Heard many of these tracks that were edited for FCC - radio edits airplay. Found my self relistening 'cause I neede all the F-bombs, KidRock is therapy and a great American!
The 11th LP is the one. Her vocals are super greasy, as Capt Obvious would say Aretha and her sisters can sing. It's interesting to read that the reel-to-reels between the Fame and NY studios were out of sync. A calibration issue. Found the mono version for playback. Full audio and a time piece.
