American Gothic
David AcklesA brilliantly dramatic album where each song tells a story that looks inside the lives of several people across the American plains. Very musical coded in the best way possible. Unexpected 5 stars.

First album down (5th June 2025). Man does this thing GROOVE. I’ve never listened to much funk before outside the RHCP and I don’t know why because this album is the epitome of sex appeal and I’m getting jiggy with it. Note to self: listen to funk more. 8/10, too much funk for its own good. I got funk-saturated.

Pretty decent. Some good songs but other than the unexpected instruments it was just regular 2000s rock
Great album and probably now my second favourite hiphop album behind the low end theory. Like other hiphop albums though I feel like it suffers from being too long but that’s just me :/
Pretty sick chewnz innit.
All the songs were good I guess and the production was great but nothing stood out to me on first listen. Light 4
Really chill, smooth jazzy 70s rock that had great production. Could be good for revising in the future. Solid 4
It was ok. There were some quite nice songs sprinkled in there but I wasn’t too crazy about most of it. Just some chill acoustic singer songwriter stuff.
Pretty chill tunes but it never captured me. The lyrics really help paint a picture but the music lacks in my opinion. Like the uncool Patti Smith.
Haven’t finished it yet but it’s just proto pet sounds in a good way. Catchy songs you can’t go wrong with
Great album I listened to the other day. Her voice is really distinctive in a great way and the songs are an expansive look into what pop music could be in an avant garde way.
Relaxed 70s rock. Not anything special but just solid songs
Pretty average 70s psychedelic rock I suppose. Not really my thing but it was pretty cool nonetheless
BANGER! Just some absolute country tunes one one of the best live albums of all time.
Chill album with some great production. Nothing mindblowing or particularly horizon-expanding though

Great pop tunes
Actually a great country album that I shall return to.
Really fun great hiphop album that wasn’t too long and had some cool samples sprinkled in
Odd album. Some songs were less odd than others but none of them stood out that much to me. I commend it for its oddness though
Really great, powerful double album. Got a killer intro and then some awesome ballads throughout. Will revisit.
Idk I didn’t hate it. It was fun and never that offensive. I probably wont revisit it over other albums similar to it but it’s nice to know that it exists.
Really great hardcore classic. The songs stayed punchy but it never got too repetitive. Some absolute catchy bangers mixed in here as well.
Pretty calm and atmospheric post rock album. Need to listen to TNT after
Possibly the best rock opera album ever made. This is a must listen for EVERYBODY and I am proud to say I own this on vinyl.
Nope. Still don’t get it.
Some groovy ass tunes, dude.
Yeah it was good. Funky and soulful. Clearly quite an influential release by the band and I can hear why.
This album makes it very hard not to like it. It’s just full of really fun songs back to front. Fairytale in New York is obviously one of the greatest Christmas songs of all time and I personally love the Irish rover. Honestly just a great time that’s safely a 4 and maybe even pushing a 5/5. I guess I’ll have to round up 🤷♂️
Great album from Dylan. That’s all I really have to say.
I like some hip hop but this album, aside from the three top streamed songs, can get a bit boring at times. It suffers from the classic hip hop curse of being too long and the production is very limited. 3/5. Influential with some good songs but a boring album
Yeah I liked it. Lo-fi alternative 90s stuff.
Clearly a grower that hasn’t yet grown on me. Some good tunes but nothing that particularly stands out on first listen. I’ll have to revisit.
I feel like I’d appreciate this album more if I’d listened to Siamese dreams first, but as it stands I need to warm up to the smashing pumpkins sound a bit more to properly appreciate this 2 hour beast. I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt and rate it a 4 but I felt as though I didn’t click with it exactly and that’s quite important when the album is as long as it was.
Murmur good
I liked it. Not much to say other than that.
A good rock album. It had some strong guitar and vocals and never got boring. It’s like British grunge but more feminist and also not quite grunge.
A surprisingly great album with some really good songs in it. Before listening to this I thought Billy Joel made annoying piano pop songs but I actually loved this album.
Undoubtedly good songs. Not a big fan of the intro, it felt more like an experiment than something worthy of an album song but I guess they thought it created a mood. I couldn’t listen to the whole thing in one go but there isn’t a bad song on it and orbital clearly have talent. Great background stuff and I could imagine clubbing to it too.
Pretty much what you’d expect from a late ‘60s British folk rock proto-prog band. I liked the flute though.
Everyone knows California dreaming. I did not previously know Monday Monday and it’s a good song. The rest of the album was pretty expected. Nice and inoffensive.
Alright album. Not as influential as their later stuff but it has some great tracks. My personal favourite but by no means their best and my opinions definitely may change in the future
I mean he is a pretty good songwriter.
Pretty rock and roll
Had some good, catchy songs on it I suppose
Definitely an album to be experienced once. I wouldn’t say I didn’t like this album. It never bored me too much and even the more ambient songs kept me interested, like I was stepping into some dystopian fascist industrial city. I can see that its value mostly lies in its influence on other bands but, saying that, I still liked some of the tracks on Kollaps. A couple times there were bits that kinda sounded like an actual song! Overall I think it’s something you listen to once but to say it’s bad is to completely disregard it as a mistake. It was all made intentionally and it succeeded in creating a certain mood, which I count as a good album. Now if you don’t mind I have some NIN to listen to and clean my audio-palette
My favourite Pet Shop Boys album, closely followed by actually. It’s got such a strong sentimental feeling carried throughout that I love and is bookended by two of the best pet shop boys songs ever recorded. Jealousy is the perfect theatrical ending to an album this good and I wish I could give it a 6.
Idk man it’s got some fun moments. I like how raw it sounds compared to other Foo Fighters records, so that’s a plus. Big me has a fun music video as well so there’s that I guess. I think if I was being critical I’d give it a 3 but I’m biased to the ‘90s.
A lot of reviews here complain that it’s just congas. While this is true, what’s wrong with a bit of percussion? I think you just have to go into the album wanting a fun time to enjoy it. It’s literally music made for dancing to. With that said, too much conga for me.
There are like 50,000 different versions of this album. I listened to the 1995 release and it was really good but just too long. I think at some points (the near 20 minute version of my generation) it devolved into guitar wanking but other than that solid stuff!
