This is fun. Smooth and funky vibes. The Beatles doing ABBA. A bit of Pink Floyd abs Bowie, too. The track Jungle is great. And one of those ‘Oh, it’s them!” moments with Mr Blue Sky. Sweet is the Night also great.
Great album. Nice to be reminded of it, I remember listening to it a fair bit when it came out. Although I’m not sure I would ever quite get to the end - I still think it’s a bit too long.
It didn’t grab as much as I thought it would. It’s fine, of a time. Derivative of Dylan playing Springsteen to my ears, though contemporary to Bruce so maybe unfair. I reckon I’ll like his later stuff more - ‘Mary Jane’s Last Dance’ came on after and I really like that. From 1993, produced by Rick Rubin.
The Girl is Mine with McCartney has an arse-clenchingly cheesy interlude-argument between themselves 🤮.
A stunning post-punk album, especially considering it was released in the punk heyday and the same year as Never Mind the Bollocks. Wire were already thinking ahead on their first album. Brilliant.
Nice bit of ‘90s nostalgia, in terms of sound anyway. I had never heard of Aimee Mann but the sound of this album is very familiar. It didn’t hold my attention for the duration though.
I was thinking this sounds like The Beatles covering Dylan songs in places, then read that’s exactly what some people said at the time. Also, I didn’t realise they are American and the band where David Crosby (Crosby, Stills and Nash) came from! I really liked the jangly psychedelia on this album.
