Apple Venus Volume 1
XTCA delight!
A delight!
Patchy, but very enjoyable at its best.
A handful of good country/pop songs, some turgid blues.
Sublime
Not for me - give me Hunky Dory instead!
Holds up well - not my favourite Costello LP but still a strong album.
Like the poppier tunes, the ballads become a bit tiresome.
Knew this album as a teenager, haven't listened for best part of 30 years - really enjoyed the opportunity to revisit - title track & 'A Design For Life' the standouts.
I appreciate the influence of this album on other bands more than I like the music itself! (though I do like some of the music, especially 'Ex Lion Tamer').
Really enjoyable - lots to love.
Not a blues aficionado, but I enjoyed this more than The White Stripes!
Great band performances - much of the lyrical content hasn't aged well.
Delightful stuff - great tunes, players - inimitable piano (& celeste!).
Classic stuff - wonderful musicians - fab songs - production maybe just a little too clean?
Dated but fun
Uneven, but many (sixties-style) pop gems.
Many classic tunes - even the deeper cuts - track pick 'Glad Tidings'.
Some strong, witty songwriting - a bit dated by its production.
Super patchy! But gets by on charm and an undeniable classic ('Maybe I'm Amazed').
Of its time - not for me!
Same as White Blood Cells - just not my thing - (and Seven Nation Army rips off Bruckner!)
Super-dated 90s electronica
The title track is hard to compete with, but the rest of the album is never less than enjoyable - beautiful vocal arrangements especially.
All over the place! Mostly fun. Some wild guitar.
Very, very silly.
Unimpeachable classic.
Hasn't aged especially well, a few good tunes.
