Classic Simon & Garfunkel. Relaxing, mostly acoustic, mostly guitar, short songs. I was surprised by "Voices of Old People" – I did not expect non-music in this album, but it makes the transition to the next piece special. Beautiful string section. There's so much more in this album than just Mrs. Robinson. I particularily enjoyed A Hazy Shade of Winter, despite it being rather short.
Relaxing, but rather repetetive.
This album rocks. It contains some absolute masterpieces, and starts off with two bangers. Awesome hammond organ and harmonica solo in "You Shook Me". I absolutely love the intro to "Your Time Is Gonna Come", which sounds like they attempted to recreate (or at least sound similar) to the sound of a church organ, which fits the title of the song nicely.
Around the World is somewhat deceptive. I did not expect what the rest of the song was like after the rather rocky intro. The other songs are of mixed quality. I enjoyed some, but I disliked others, especially the ones which use rather lack-lustre melodic devices. Well, and then there's Californication, the song which is the namesake of the album. It is completely understandable that this song is the most popular out of the album, as it's actually really good. Other songs such as This Velvet Glove are also pretty decent. To conclude, this album is very much a mixed bag of both decent and mediocre songs.
When compared to the background instruments, the voice tends to be rather loud, which is a shame. Luckily, this only affects a few of the songs. Overall, the songs are fine though. Rather simple harmonic devices. Some songs are great, others are kind of repetetive. I enjoyed the string accompaniment in Into White. I enjoyed Wild World the most; it is one of the most well-known Cat Stevens songs for a reason after all.
The Beatles are considered to be one of the best rated bands of all time for a very good reason. While this might not be the most well-known album, and also not the best album the Beatles ever recorded, the included songs are still great. Within You Without You was very unexepcted! I did not think the Beatles made songs like that.
I did not expect the yodelling in "The Headmaster Ritual"; it is rather... interesting. Seems rather repetetive. Not great singing. Merely the last song provided some much-needed variety (and a pretty weird intro), but that was it.
After listening to this album, I am unsure whether it was me who took acid or the band.
Incredibly cheerful, synthesizer-heavy 80's pop. So many good songs, almost all of which are very well known due to them being absolutely incredibe. I was rather surprised by the last three songs within the album, which are the only ones I have not heart before. These three songs differ quite a bit from the rest of the album.
Great R&B music. One can notice the novelty of this style of music and how people loved it in this album. I really liked "Lost Someone", which consists of the same accompaniment repeating over and over again for 10 minutes, until it suddenly ends and transitions nicely into "Please, Please, Please".
Note for self: Some songs are blocked on YouTube Music, presumably because of copyright garbage. Great album with nice and relaxing music that is very suitable for listening to in the background when working on something. Some songs are pretty weird though. Actually, let me rethink that. The further along you get into the album, the weirder the songs get. Maybe not so nice for listenting to in the background in its whole. Still great, though!
Nothing special. But maybe I just don't get them.
Absolute classic. Not a whole lot of variation though.
"The Cramps" is a fitting band name. I almost got a cramp in my ear listening to this singing.
I don't know why this is on this list.
Lovely music. Definitely a diversion from the "typical" Simon & Garfunkel style. There are more inspirations from other genres, and the guitar and vocals are more pronounced.
I don't know how I never heard about this band. Typical 70s rock, great songs.
Very repetetive.
Not a fan.
Contains a whole bunch of absolute bangers. Nothing super special though.
Nice experimental/psychedelic music.
This is definitely... something. Some songs are weirder than others. Most are weird though. The voice of the singer is rather "unique". But it does rock.
Absolute bangers!
Very jazzy. Kinda reminds me of various Citypop / Japanese jazz fusion artists, especially Keiichi Oku with the "The Good Bad Girl" album.
Didn't expect to be listening to Brazilian music today. It's something different, which is always good. Pretty funky. I like it.
This is fucking awesome.
not really my favourite.
it's ok. starts out pretty good, but gets progressively weirder.
Nice early 70's rock.
*****
not a fan.
I don't typically listen to this kind of music, but this was pretty decent.
