The Number Of The Beast
Iron Maiden
Heard before.
Starts great first 3 songs. Ends great with Hallowed be Thy Name. Middle is ok, no bad songs.
Best Songs: Children of the Damned, The Prisoner, Hallowed be Thy Name
Bad songs: none, 22 Acacia Avenue is just ok

I listened to the whole album. I gave it a chance. I didn't like anything about it. Painfully boring and uninspiring.

Doggystyle
Snoop Dogg
Been listening to this for decades. Some fake gangstas spittin cliches over P-Funk samples, and I mean that in the best possible way. An absolute classic. Every song rules.
Best songs: Tha Shiznit, Who Am I?, Doggy Dogg World

Elevator music on Xanax. Painfully boring and childish lyrics and melodies. I have no problem saying I hated this album.

Either Or
Elliott Smith
Never heard before.
Surprising I've never heard this. I like folk music and 90s Americana. It's a good album that checks both those boxes at points. I'm not a big fan of his voice or singing style, but the songs are all solid. Not one bad song on the album, but only a handfull really caught me on my first listen. Seems like an album I have to re-listen to to really get it, but I'll give it 3/5 for now.
Best songs: Ballad of Big Nothing, Rose Parade, Cupid's Trick, 2:45 AM

Lost Souls
Doves
First time hearing it.
So the drums sound great on this album. Drummer is good, and they sound good. A couple songs I liked, and I didn't really hate anything on it. Maybe it's a bit too sappy in parts, maybe too airy, and a little boring for me. I don't like this style of vocals either. Not bad, but can't see myself coming back to it.
Best songs: Melody Calls (really liked this one), Sea Song, Firesuite

Ananda Shankar
First time listening to this.
I am not an avid sitar listener, so this album isn't like anything I've heard. Some good jams on this. Light My Fire cover is the peak, the breakdown on The Oxean was great too. Slows down on side 2, side one was really solid. I'll check this out again, and more of this dude's catalog.

Synchronicity
The Police
I've only heard the hit songs from The Police before, and I thought I just didn't like them. Now that I've heard a full album of theirs, I can safely say I absolutely hate their music.

Tellin’ Stories
The Charlatans
First time listening
So it's clearly got that 90s British bubble gum pop sound with the typical nasally 90s British bubble gum pop vocals. The thing I didn't expect is how much they tried to infuse other musical genres into this. At times, they tried to sound heavier. At times, they tried to have a hip hop sound. At times, they tried to sound like a jam band. At times, they tried to sound funky. It was kind of a mess. At that's on top of being firmly from a genre I already don't really like. A couple good songs, but not something I got into or want to come back to.
Best songs: You're a Big Girl Now, Get on It

The Stranger
Billy Joel
I've only ever heard his singles, never wanted to dig into his albums. He's always come across as a cornball making phony tough guy music for dorks, but it's not the worst music I've ever heard. Listening to this album just strengthened my opinion on him.

Pretenders
Pretenders
First time listening
I've never searched out the Pretenders because I've always been under the impression they were some cornball 80s pop band. And while there was a little bit of that, this was more of a pop-punk album that was heavier than I expected. Really good, catchy songs. Only 2 bad songs. I was surprised by how much I liked this album.
Best songs: Space Invader, Kid, Mystery Achievement
Bad songs: Private Live (bad white ska), Brass in Pocket (exactly what I expected the whole album to be)

Morrison Hotel
The Doors
This has been my favorite Doors album since I first got into music. The heavier straight forward blues they came out with after Soft Parade is the best stuff they ever made. Half this album has been bar jukebox staples for me for years.
Best songs: Roadhouse Blues, Peace Frog, Ship of Fools, Land Ho!, The Spy, Maggie M'Gill

Eli And The Thirteenth Confession
Laura Nyro
First time listening
A lot of things going on musically on this album. It's poppy, but there's a lot of moments it gets swingy, soulful, folky, bluesy. Every song jumps all over the place. It sounds like the soundtrack to a dramatic mid 60s TV show. She does have a great voice, but it gets somewhat cartoonishly showtoony sometimes. Most songs seem to have good moments and bad moments. It's probably more like a 2.5/5 in my book, but I rounded up because I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt with it not being something I'd normally seek out. It's not something I'd mind listening to again.
Best songs: Stoned Soul Picnic, Woman's Blues

Don't Stand Me Down
Dexys Midnight Runners
First time listening
Multi-layered music with a wide range of instruments. It rollercoasters from really good, soulful music to goofy 80s poppy music. Some really good songs on the album, some skippable ones (on first listen). Singers voice works really well in parts, and gets cartoonish at others. I'll give it another shot in the future, could be a possible 4 if something clicks. Knowledge of Beauty is one of the best songs I've ever heard.
Best songs: The Occasional Flicker, Knowledge of Beauty, The Waltz

Born To Run
Bruce Springsteen
First listened to this twenty years ago when I was first getting into music and gave Springsteen a shot. All I took from Springsteen over the years is Darkness on the Edge of Town and some of his 90s Americana stuff. He's always rubbed me the wrong way. He's a phony tough guy making pop music pretending to be rock. He's whiny and over-dramatic. His 80s stuff is horrible, but his 70s and 90s stuff is ok.
So I like 4 songs on this album and don't like the other 4. Born to Run is one of the songs I don't like. When the music is good, it's very good. He writes good sad music, even if he's only sad about having to go to work. The upbeat stuff is corny, as are his tough guy from the rough side of town lyrics. But I do like the songs I like, and will continue to listen to them.
Good songs: Thunder Road, Night, Backstreets, Jungleland

The Score
Fugees
I've heard this plenty of times. It's a really good album. It's got a bit of everything you look for in an east coast rap album from the 90s. It's both laid back and groovy while also being intense and in your face. There's some great samples on this. All 3 MCs have great flow and great wordplay, but Lauren Hill is the star. She's a good singer too. Lyrics are pretty straight forward black militant stuff you heard from 80s-90s east coast rap, but I think they're actually rastafarian instead of 5 percenters. I think others did it better, but this is still a great album.
Best songs: Ready or Not, Zealots, The Mask

Reggatta De Blanc
The Police
The second Police album I've come across on the list. I never seeked out the Police before, because I don't like the singles already. I hated Synchronicity with a passion, but this one is a little better. I can actually see how people consider them a ska influenced band, and I can actually see how someone would like this band with this album. I'll even go so far as to say Contact is a good song. At the end of the day though, it's a really bad white guy ska album, and I still dislike the Police very much.

Highly Evolved
The Vines
First time hearing this. I read this was a 60s garage rock inspired band, but I hardly heard anything like that. It was more like a generic late 90s/early 2000s alternative band. The music never really caught me. The singing was whiny. I'm not gonna be checking this out again.

One Nation Under A Groove
Funkadelic
Listened to many times, along with every other P-Funk album. The thing I'll say about this album is that it's probably the least likely album I will listen to with other people. It's less of the upbeat danceable music they've been known to make. Cholly and Who Says a Funk Band Can't Play Rock?! are exceptions to that. It's more psychedelic and has a darker tone than the other Funkadelic (and certainly Parliament) albums I listen to more often. But it's really good nonetheless.

Rubber Soul
Beatles
I'm not a big Beatles fan, but I've always thought this was a great album. It's thr transition period between their early straightforward music to their later goofier stuff, and it just comes together really well here. Probably my favorite Beatles album
Best songs: Think for Yourself, Girl, I'm Looking Through You

My Bloody Valentine
First time listening. Gave it two listens. While it has it's moments, they ruin it every time. They sound like teenagers trying too hard to be different. I could do without the whiny singing too.

Green
R.E.M.
First time listening to this full album. I've probably heard every single R.E.M. has ever put out though, so I knew some songs already. After listening to this album, I have the same opinion of them as I had before. Musically, they write some solid, catchy songs. Its very approachable soft rock. Borderline Americana music. I can listen to R.E.M. on occasion and enjoy it. The problem is the whiny singing with the dorky socially conscious lyrics. These dudes seem insufferable in person. I can only take so much of it. Maybe they should make some instrumental albums.

Apocalypse Dudes
Turbonegro
First time listening. Instantly loved this album. Will probably be the easiest 5 stars I give on an album I'm listening to for the first time. It's a mix of The Stooges and The Ramones. Every song is catchy as hell. Great guitar solos. Goofy lyrics. Just an awesome album. I can't believe I missed out on this one for so long.
Best songs: The Age of Pamparius, Selfdestructo Bust, Monkey on Your Back, Humiliation Street, Good Head

Darkness on the Edge of Town
Bruce Springsteen
This has been my favorite Springsteen album for a long time. They first side is ok. Starts with Badlands, which is good, and is pretty mid otherwise. Side 2 is 5 stars on its own. The Promised Land, Factory, and Prove It All Night are all really great songs. Not a big Springsteen fan, but this album was really good.

Beyond Skin
Nitin Sawhney
So the first three songs were pretty mellow and relaxing. I was thinking this is a two, maybe even three star album I was listening to. Then came an unlikeable rap song by someone that sounded like Q-Tip. After that, pure nails on a chalkboard.

Bringing It All Back Home
Bob Dylan
I'm a big Dylan fan, but this one never lived up to some of my favorite albums of his as a whole. Thats mainly because of the first two songs on the album being usual skips for me. Side one has some good tunes on it with that said. Maggie's Farm and Outlaw Blues are some of my favorites there. Side 2 on the other hand is some of my favorite stuff he ever did. Those 4 songs are 5 star material. Gates of Eden is probably a top 5 Dylan song for me. It's a really good album, and I really do appreciate that this was kind of his first step away from being basically just a political folk singer, but I just can't give it the full 5 stars.

The Chronic
Dr. Dre
I'm a fan of 90s rap, so I've heard this many times before. I think Dr Dre has the best beats. I love all the music he samples, and he does a good job with them. The problem I have with this album is he is a terrible MC. He's also a phony gangster, and it's cringe listening to him pretend hes not. If you're gonna be a phony, at least be funny like the other Death Row guys. This album was never close to as good as Doggystyle. There are some good songs I still listen to regularly from this album, like Rat A Tat Tat and Stranded on Death Row.

Crime Of The Century
Supertramp
My parents had this CD when I was growing up, so I've heard it before. It's been about 20 years since the last time I checked it out, so I thought I might appreciate it more. Nah, still the same weird avant-garde yacht rock I remembered. Not terrible, but I don't like it.

Fear Of A Black Planet
Public Enemy
Way to long of an album to just be saying the same thing over and over again over minimalist beats. Public Enemy is a group that had a few good songs you can throw into a rap playlist, but a 20 song album is too much. There are way better rap albums that came out around this time that probably won't be on this list.

Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
Wu-Tang Clan
One of my favorite albums. RZA is the king of minimalist production. The energy on this album is probably unmatched in any genre. Every MC on every verse is great. Top notch wordplay throughout. I've always gotten a kick out of five percenter rap anyway, but they are in your face about it in a good way. I've always thought the original Wu Tang wave was the pinnacle of rap.

Arcade Fire
Over-dramatic pop rock for theater kids. The dude's whiny singing fits the juvenile lyrics well. Ocean of Noise was a decent song at least.
