I was chilling with this, really liked the intro instrumental to For a Spanish Guitar, but then the harmonica kicked in; and the Stand By Me cover is absolute dogshit and i lost a lot of respect for the album there, though otherwise it's pretty fine.
favorite song: idk they all run together
oh this is the wonderwall album huh
deep rich warm sound. relaxing and pleasant and often throws in interesting musical choices (helicopter, waves, other sounds i cannot immediately recognize) that keep me guessing and wanting more. feels crowdpleasing in a way that isn't sacrificing artistic intent. a dub
favorite song: the only one I'll really remember is Wonderwall but Champagne Supernova recency bias is doing some things
engaging 80s synthpop sound, some interesting effects, and at least one all time classic that'll be played until the death of radio. doesn't overstay its welcome; the middle tracks ran together for me.
favorite song: i can't say anything other than Hungry Like a Wolf
doesn't really have the excitement and straight up banger quality that i might have ascribed to Prince before listening to this album. moderately fun, completely tolerable listening, but didn't really keep me engaged.
most interesting and yet least favorite song: Housequake
not my style of music at all unfortunately
this is more my speed, the first album i've actually listened to all the way through before this project, but it's not my favorite Queen. none of these tracks are on my playlist anymore (even despite Baby Driver).
favorite song: Killer Queen
this shit better knock my socks off to make me listen to the "disc 2" of edits and instrumentals that spotify has listed
the first track did blow me away but the rest of it was only occasionally engaging; felt more like filler, though the cohesion and general presence of the music allowed to me to keep listening at least partway into disc 2 without minding it at all. cool to see a precursor to something like polyphia.
entirely unremarkable to me
pretty album art. was vibing slightly throughout, though i took a little break in the middle of a song because i got a call at work and coming back to this dipshit crooning was not pleasant. instrumentals are nice and his voice is fine enough in low dosages. the lyrics i actually ingested seem well considered, impactful when i catch an "asinine" or "disgusting" every now and then.
also not really my type of Queen! i'm clearly not a fan and i've probably listened to this before but i don't remember it at all. vaguely tuneless background pop rock. no complaints but no compliments either.
generic tuneless depression rock. tolerable.
not overrated. a bunch of absolute classics and a few songs that i surely didn't remember existed at all; a lot packed into 47 minutes. innovative, catchy, harmonious, clean music that has and will stand the test of time.
favorite song: Come Together, always
i don't tend to pay much attention to lyrics but i bet if i did this would be great
i guess this was innovative and special in 2004 but doesn't feel that way now. fine enough
favorite song: Auf Asche
I have no thoughts on this
all fine songs and then you hit the One and you're like holy shit why didn't they make them all this good. extra star for that one
jams
favorite song: In the End
love the title. immediate impression of the first song is that the album doesn't deliver on it. fine tunes but discordant, ugly sound.
excellent crossword puzzle music
perfectly listenable folk/country
bad day for it because this was putting me to sleep at work. decent tunes and pretty voice though
great beats and a flow to the sound that keeps it engaging and poppy the whole way through.
favorite song: POWER
DNF. i fucking hate elvis costello's voice. some of the instrumentals were solid.
ohhhh shit
begins with a generational banger and does cool off from there a bit but still all very fun, snappy, spirited music.
doesn't prince have some bangers? second album on here where i've been so unimpressed by my inability to nod along to anything here. other than the titular song which is a bop. disappointed so far by my experience of this legendary artist
i don't like listening to live music, so that's a bummer for this album. definitely a bummer recording of something in the way. still a solid listen, impressive vocals and great throughlines.
favorite song: the Man Who Sold the World
first song thoughts: sounds like the theme to a sitcom, but it goes on for a full three and a half minutes
forgot what i was listening to and sock it to em pulled a soulja boy aaahhhhhh fakeout on me lol
i can't stand I Can't Stand It but i kinda like International Jet Set
