ohhhh shit
begins with a generational banger and does cool off from there a bit but still all very fun, snappy, spirited music.

Gene Clark
2/5
I was chilling with this, really liked the intro instrumental to For a Spanish Guitar, but then the harmonica kicked in; and the Stand By Me cover is absolute dogshit and i lost a lot of respect for the album there, though otherwise it's pretty fine.
favorite song: idk they all run together
4/5
oh this is the wonderwall album huh
deep rich warm sound. relaxing and pleasant and often throws in interesting musical choices (helicopter, waves, other sounds i cannot immediately recognize) that keep me guessing and wanting more. feels crowdpleasing in a way that isn't sacrificing artistic intent. a dub
favorite song: the only one I'll really remember is Wonderwall but Champagne Supernova recency bias is doing some things
Duran Duran
3/5
engaging 80s synthpop sound, some interesting effects, and at least one all time classic that'll be played until the death of radio. doesn't overstay its welcome; the middle tracks ran together for me.
favorite song: i can't say anything other than Hungry Like a Wolf
Prince
3/5
doesn't really have the excitement and straight up banger quality that i might have ascribed to Prince before listening to this album. moderately fun, completely tolerable listening, but didn't really keep me engaged.
most interesting and yet least favorite song: Housequake
James Brown
2/5
not my style of music at all unfortunately
Queen
3/5
this is more my speed, the first album i've actually listened to all the way through before this project, but it's not my favorite Queen. none of these tracks are on my playlist anymore (even despite Baby Driver).
favorite song: Killer Queen
Death In Vegas
3/5
this shit better knock my socks off to make me listen to the "disc 2" of edits and instrumentals that spotify has listed
the first track did blow me away but the rest of it was only occasionally engaging; felt more like filler, though the cohesion and general presence of the music allowed to me to keep listening at least partway into disc 2 without minding it at all. cool to see a precursor to something like polyphia.
Bob Dylan
2/5
entirely unremarkable to me
Lambchop
3/5
pretty album art. was vibing slightly throughout, though i took a little break in the middle of a song because i got a call at work and coming back to this dipshit crooning was not pleasant. instrumentals are nice and his voice is fine enough in low dosages. the lyrics i actually ingested seem well considered, impactful when i catch an "asinine" or "disgusting" every now and then.
Queen
3/5
also not really my type of Queen! i'm clearly not a fan and i've probably listened to this before but i don't remember it at all. vaguely tuneless background pop rock. no complaints but no compliments either.
Alice In Chains
2/5
generic tuneless depression rock. tolerable.
Nick Drake
3/5
chill vibes
Beatles
5/5
not overrated. a bunch of absolute classics and a few songs that i surely didn't remember existed at all; a lot packed into 47 minutes. innovative, catchy, harmonious, clean music that has and will stand the test of time.
favorite song: Come Together, always
Nas
3/5
i don't tend to pay much attention to lyrics but i bet if i did this would be great
Franz Ferdinand
3/5
i guess this was innovative and special in 2004 but doesn't feel that way now. fine enough
favorite song: Auf Asche
Suede
3/5
I have no thoughts on this
Derek & The Dominos
4/5
all fine songs and then you hit the One and you're like holy shit why didn't they make them all this good. extra star for that one
American Music Club
3/5
Manu Chao
2/5
Linkin Park
4/5
jams
favorite song: In the End
Country Joe & The Fish
2/5
love the title. immediate impression of the first song is that the album doesn't deliver on it. fine tunes but discordant, ugly sound.
Count Basie & His Orchestra
3/5
excellent crossword puzzle music
Aretha Franklin
4/5
The Byrds
3/5
perfectly listenable folk/country
Kacey Musgraves
3/5
bad day for it because this was putting me to sleep at work. decent tunes and pretty voice though
Kanye West
4/5
great beats and a flow to the sound that keeps it engaging and poppy the whole way through.
favorite song: POWER
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
1/5
DNF. i fucking hate elvis costello's voice. some of the instrumentals were solid.
Sparks
4/5
ohhhh shit
begins with a generational banger and does cool off from there a bit but still all very fun, snappy, spirited music.
Talk Talk
3/5
Prince
2/5
doesn't prince have some bangers? second album on here where i've been so unimpressed by my inability to nod along to anything here. other than the titular song which is a bop. disappointed so far by my experience of this legendary artist
B.B. King
2/5
Rush
3/5
Nirvana
3/5
i don't like listening to live music, so that's a bummer for this album. definitely a bummer recording of something in the way. still a solid listen, impressive vocals and great throughlines.
favorite song: the Man Who Sold the World
The Specials
1/5
first song thoughts: sounds like the theme to a sitcom, but it goes on for a full three and a half minutes
forgot what i was listening to and sock it to em pulled a soulja boy aaahhhhhh fakeout on me lol
i can't stand I Can't Stand It but i kinda like International Jet Set
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
1/5
oh this song. sure. a little too earnestly maudlin for me, and fuuuck harmonica man.
instrumentals (other than that fuckass harmonica) are decent enough. voice is crazy annoying though, i don't think i'm in a bad mood (yet, only halfway through the album, ugh) so i can confidently say that i'll never enjoy this guy
second version of my my hey hey is better but i don't like the repeat
G. Love & Special Sauce
2/5
gets more daring as it goes on, but unfortunately i find it only more grating; and when it backs off, i find it boring.
Cyndi Lauper
4/5
great 80s glam sound strengthened by emotional richness and an inextricable sense of fun.
Bob Dylan
2/5
tasteful harmonica for once in my freaking life. pretty dull as i always find bob dylan to be. sorry music people, i'm more of a movie guy; this is just an extra little project
Elliott Smith
3/5
album art had me expecting some dogshit hair rock or something but this was a pleasant enough, though boring, ride
Aimee Mann
3/5
i defer to the title to explain my review
Chicago
1/5
often subverting my expectations, sometimes in exciting ways and sometimes, like in free form guitar, by attempting to literally assault me with sound. and look i get some experimenting but jesus christ what the fuck
never really got over that. some of the music is fine but i will never purposefully return to any of this. awful. i've written this review as i wait for the interminable final song to end (holy fuck how are there still four minutes) and now i absolutely fucking hate this
Sigur Rós
3/5

heads will roll is an all time classic but really only the dance till you're dead version on that one dark souls animation. rest of the album's a very different vibe; fine, not remarkable.
Various Artists
3/5
somehow despite all of this music being on the edge of being right on the edge of hopelessly annoying, it actually all kinda vibes and is good. i'm shocked! well curated
N.W.A.
3/5
The Crusaders
2/5
6 songs in 39 minutes? elevator music, not unenjoyable but also, to me, not enjoyable either
Orbital
3/5
becoming disillusioned with the title of the series. i just don't think this has added to my musical acumen in any way. a lot of genres at work here though
Pere Ubu
1/5
excuse me what the fuck. i legitimately like the instrumentals but the vocals appear scientifically engineered to be insanely annoying. DNF. once again feel that the name of this project is disingenuous.
Johnny Cash
2/5
pretty dull. i'm sure it was good in person
Bob Dylan
2/5
i remain a complete nonenjoyer of Bob Dylan
Simon & Garfunkel
2/5
pretty dull and the best song is of course better by the Bangles
Dusty Springfield
