Fav track: Midnight Rambler
I like this album! Ofc it has the iconic singles, “Gimme Shelter” and “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”, but I actually appreciated the majority of the tracks! I heard a more American “southern rock” style flair that I wasn’t expecting. Particularly on “Midnight Rambler” and “You Got That Silver.” I’m curious if that style of playing was popular in 1969 specifically. Overall great album!
Fav track: Pt. 1 - Festival Junction Live
Love the commentary throughout the live album. Duke and his band are truly one of a kind. This album feels like a historical recording, meaning they captured every aspect of what was going on: music, applause, uproar, reaction, collaboration, etc. really cool to hear!
Favorite track: L’America and Hyacinth House
Extremely bluesy. I’ve read that some of Morrison’s musical influences included Muddy Waters and Howlin Wolf and that is extremely apparent to me. In comparison to other Doors albums, this one isn’t my favorite. Overall a classic rock album that is always easy to put on.
Fav track: take five, Pennies from heaven
Pretty swinging ! Had to listen throughout the day bc it was quite long, but I enjoyed the live recording!
Fav tracks: lonesome Suzie, key to the highway
I liked this album more than I expected to. Excellent songwriting, it’s nice to hear the rest of the album besides the iconic song, “the weight”
Fav track: sunrise
I haven’t heard this album by new order before so it was nice to hear something new!
It was just alright imo, I prefer lost souls!
Fav track: frosty the snowman
good memories w this album :) fuck Phil Spector tho
Fav track: welcome to the occupation, the one I love, oddfellows local 151
Such an epic album, glad I got to explore REM more and definitely looking into them even more!
Fav tracks: Costello: passionate fight, Talbot: you were meant for me
Didn’t get as thorough of a listen as I would’ve liked but everything I heard was full of whimsy. I love these tracks!
Fav tracks: it won’t be long, all my loving, hold me tight, money (that’s what I want)
Such an iconic album. Little to no skips
Fav track: peace of mind
I’ve heard this album so many times throughout my life that it’s become a bit redundant. Nostalgic for sure, but this album doesn’t really resonate with my taste anymore.
Fav tracks: the living end, the hardest walk
Fav tracks: mysterons, it could be sweet, it’s a fire
Jazzy smooth vocals, introspective emo lyrics, snazzy breakdown.. a damn good album!!
Fav tracks: battle of evermore (mandolin + guitar), going to California (mandolin + guitar), misty mountain hop, stairway to heaven
A classic. This album is so beautiful, didn’t realize how much I prefer the instrumentals til I heard he deluxe version.
Epitome of late 90s/early 00s man rock, not my favorite alas
Fav tracks: changeling, stem/long stem, what does your soul look like pt 4, mutual slump, building steam with a grain of salt
This was a masterpiece. the ambience that would immediately morph with breakbeat.. chef’s kiss.
Long hot summer night, come on let the good times roll, have you ever been to electric ladyland, burning of the midnight lamp
Groovy influence of psychedelic, r&b, and blues. Hendrix’s insane playing mixed with a soothing sort of “talk” singing makes this album a versatile listen !
Fav tracks: snuf, gematria (the killing name), psychosocial, vendetta
It’s like this generator knew I needed to hear slipknot today.
Fav tracks: nite klub, concrete jungle
Not into ska too much these days. I can respect the creativity this album clearly possesses tho
Fav tracks: changes, eight line poem, life on mars?, fill your heart, queen bitch
No skips for this album. Listening feels like drinking a warm cup of tea and watching your favorite videos as a kid
Fav tracks: halo of ashes, all I know, dying days, traveler, dime western
Fav tracks: Cisco kid, city, county, city, the world is a ghetto
I might as well have put the whole album on my “fav tracks” list. No skips. Perfect groove.
Fav tracks: revelator, my first lover, red clay hero, I want to sing that rock and roll, everything is free, I dream a highway
Love the incorporation of banjo on “my first lover.” while this album has more pop/rock influence, you can still hear her folk tradition in her singing and playing style. such a beautiful album.
Fav tracks: America is not the world, Irish blood, English heart, I have forgiven Jesus, let me kiss you, you know I couldn’t last
The king of melancholy and beautiful despair.
Fav tracks: this is hell, you tripped at every step, london’s brilliant people
This album was more emotional than I expected. I wish I was able to give an even more in-depth listen but I really liked it. Elvis Costello sounds like what Patrick stump wants to embody me thinks
Fav track: pitche mi
No skips. This album is energetic and a wonderful listen!
Fav tracks: sun it rises, white winter hymnal, ragged wood, tiger mountain peasant song, your protector, meadowlarks
This album was a pleasant listen as this winter storm barrels down on my town. there’s curious whimsy and melancholy intertwined, yet it also feels soooo tumblr-hipster 2011 like crazy. Nostalgic and warm, I didn’t realize how folk-inspired this album was. The rhythm/percussion section is evident in their folk roots. Glad I had the time to really listen to this album !!
Fav tracks: you don’t have to be old to be wise, living after midnight, the rage, steeler
Classic thrash metal album. Love the lyricism and imagery throughout the album. Such a fun listen
Fav tracks: clan in da front, wu-tang: 7th chamber, C.R.E.A.M., method man, protect ya neck
Ahead of its time. The blueprint for rap and hip hop as we understand it today. The production samples are legendary, the lyricism is provoking (aka it gets the job done), and each artist has his own personality that he brings to each track. Soooo fucking cool
