1001 Albums Summary

Not my favourite Radiohead album. Interested to see which other RH albums made the list. It’s coherently its own thing, which I respect. Listened on my phone speaker - perhaps unfair. Given that I’m not expecting any of these albums to be objectively terrible, I’m going to use a pretty harsh rating system. This gets a 2 - I wouldn’t mind if I don’t hear it again!

Through the first 4 overplayed tracks I thought this album was for the bin, but the rest of it surprised me

5* straight out the gate, I thought. But wth is that Frank Lloyd Wright track 😆

In love. Can’t believe it’s new to me. Will listen to this many times.

Insufferable, apart from Layla. If I’m going to listen to blues, I’d prefer the original stuff! Some other people’s reviews amused me: “Uninspired trash over basic blues backing. If I wanted to listen to this, I can go to a local dive bar on a Tuesday evening show with a bunch of aging rockers who believe in conservative fiscal policy.” Also: “ If you want something that goes on for ages and then you hear Layla, watch Goodfellas.”

Finding it a bit stark how many 60s 70s British bands were thieving music from black America. Again, a lot sounds pastiche / inauthentic. But it’s not all bad

Delightful

If I could tune out the lyrics it would get a 5, but I can’t so it’s a 1.

The simplicity of some tracks makes them sound like a high school band, but the distinctive sound makes me happy in itself. “A Forest” is such a fun track.

The pace is well-described as ‘torpid’. Some of the vocals grate with effort in a way I don’t like. Enjoyed instrumental tracks more. After listening to it three times (only six tracks!) by the evening I rather liked it.

Divine! Five stars! (Did anyone else hear Cruella De Vil in there?)

Unlistenable. Curious how it made the list. Was it groundbreaking at the time?!

This guy’s not doing so well with the ladies. Not totally sure I listened to the right version of the album? A crooner. Archetypal, but, for me, meh
