It was good I mean i hardly listen to metal so i dont have much to measure it against but like it was very good
4.5
this was fun and fast and feel good!
my favourites were
1. hot for teacher
2. girl gone bad
3. top jimmy
i.e. the fastest songs… they were awesome
even though it’s the most famous song I didn’t enjoy jump too much - I generally prefer the guitar-heavy songs over the synth-heavier songs like Jump and I’ll Wait
but yes i will listen to this album again for sure
i love this album FIVE STARS
the first half is definitely stronger than the second half, and I don't like Polly, so maybe it would be a 4.75 if I could do that... but I love this album and often it is just exactly what I need to listen to. my favourite song on this album is lithium it's one of my favourite songs ever. Thank u nirvana
2/5 - not really my thing
in many songs, the vocals put me off (eg. in the title song, and especially 'into you'). the beats were always interesting and funky though
i enjoyed it more as i got to the third song - 'WHO SAYS A PUNK BAND CAN'T PLAY ROCK?!' - which was my favourite from the album. also enjoyed the final song 'cholly'... apart from those two, the other four didn't really resonate with me
I also listened to the 3 bonus EPs but by the time I got to those I wasn't paying too much attention so I will not include in my review
3/5
Interesting album but I generally felt lukewarm towards it, especially the songs that were more abstract & psychedelic - I appreciate the artistry but wouldn't choose to listen again. Just not my thing - would need some faster/heavier or more vocally interesting elements if I were really going to enoy it.
Two songs are very long - "Voodoo Chile" and "1983...(A Merman I Should Turn To Be)". I enjoyed Voodoo Chile but felt that it didn't benefit from the length since it was pretty samey - its abridged version "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" is better. 1983 has some great moments when it picks up at the end but it's not worth the boring ass first 10 minutes lol.
I preferred the covers, "Come On (Let the Good Times Roll)" and "All Along the Watchtower", to Hendrix's original songs tbh...
Favourite songs - Crosstown Traffic, Come On (Let the Good Times Roll) Voodoo Chile, Still Raining Still Dreaming
2/5 this was very POLARISING for me
I actually really liked a few of the songs but I felt such a strong hatred for so many of them that I can't give it higher than a 2. Honestly it's the vocals, especially the choral vocals where they're all singing in unison. Eg. in "Brief Candles", and in "Changes", god I can't fucking stand it! I don't know why it makes me so angry but it did. I didn't appreciate the baroque elements much either.
There are some bursts where all the guitars come in and the energy picks up, and these are my favourite moments. For example, in the choruses of "Care of Cell 44" and "Maybe After He's Gone". It reminds me of their song "She's Not There", which isn't on this album but it's a song I love and I think they're at their best when they sound similar to that, i.e. high tempo, rhythmic, layered, rock-and-roll.
I think the best example of the combination of parts I love and parts I hate is the song "Brief Candles". There's no way I'm listening to this song again because the verses are so insufferable. But it's a shame because the choruses are actually really really good...
Favourite songs - Care of Cell 44, This Will Be Our Year
Songs I fucking hated - A Rose for Emily, Butcher's Tale, Changes
2.5 - unc has not still got it
a lot of these songs did nothing for me... others I did enjoy but the vocals put me off. a combinations of the voice (sorry bowie but you don't sound like you used to), the melodies which tended to be monotonous, and the lyrics which didn't interest me. but it's well-produced, has variety, and I think the backing tracks with different vocal tracks could be more enjoyable
I wouldn't choose to listen to any of the songs again so I think it has to be rounded down to a 2 I'm sorry. I do see positive aspects so my true rating is 2.5
favourite songs: (you will) set the world on fire, dancing out in space
a very experimental album, and a real mixed bag...
★★★☆☆ BLUE ORCHID - good, annoying vocals
☆☆☆☆☆ THE NURSE - abhorrent (one of the worst songs I've ever heard)
★★★☆☆ MY DOORBELL - alright, reminds me of MIKA
★☆☆☆☆ FOREVER FOR HER - didn't enjoy
☆☆☆☆☆ LITTLE GHOST - really hated this, country is not for me
★★★★★ THE DENIAL TWIST - my favourite, I love this sound
★☆☆☆☆ WHITE MOON - annoying
★★★★☆ INSTICT BLUES - pretty good too
★☆☆☆☆ PASSIVE MANIPULATION - short and bad
★★★★☆ TAKE, TAKE, TAKE - I liked this a lot!
★★★☆☆ AS UGLY AS I SEEM - I don't enjoy ballads like this much, but it wasn't bad
★★★☆☆ RED RAIN - I like the heavier sound, but still found the song a bit annoying
★★☆☆☆ I'M LONELY - yeah man whatever
AVERAGE = 2.31
at least nobody can call this album samey. for the most part I found it annoying
george harrison is a very talented songwriter and this album is great
many of the songs off this album are on my regular rotation but i've never listened to the whole thing. it was all very good, if a bit long...
the third disc "apple jam" (i.e. the final 5 songs) is completely instrumental, and honestly really good for the most part, but should probably been its own album - the album was long enough already and these songs have a different sound, much more blues than the rest of the album
some of the songs sound like they could be beatles songs, but overall you can tell george has developed his own sound that diverges from the beatles
favourite song: wah-wah
awesome fun punk classic
the first song, personality crisis, is really a highlight, and it sounds SOOOO similar to rocky horror, which came out in the same year. the rest of the album has less of this glam sound and is more punk, and reminds me of other punk bands who were clearly inspired by this album
clearly a seminal album for punk rock - listening to it now, it sounds similar to a lot of other old punk music, but back when it was released (1973) none of that existed so it must have been CRAAAAAZY at the time
also love their look. glam rock is awesome
favourite song - personality crisis
just not my thing
it's clearly well-written, well-performed and well-produced. but this type of music I just find so corny and I don't enjoy it
it's getting a 3 because it is good from an objective standpoint and I don't find it abrasive at all - if it were playing in the background in a shop or in a movie I wouldn't be put off, but I wouldn't choose to listen to it
And rest in peace karen carpenter I think also their music depresses me because it makes me think about her
favourite song: mr guder
If u know me u know i LOVE THIS ALBUM!!!!!!!!!!!! I have the album cover printed out and stuck on my wall
it's so gorgeous and gothic and moody and the guitar is amazing and the lyrics and siouxsie's voice YESSSSS
Foundational text for goths
favourite songs: night shift & monitor
Very nice
Sorry i forgot to write a proper review but i like it a lot
absolutely not in the mood for this IM SORRY but I will give them 3 stars for creativity. if I were in a good mood I'd maybe enjoy it
I don't listen to a lot of jazz but I can appreciate good jazz and this is good jazz
Didn't like the vocals at the end of the first song sorry I think the album would have been better just 100% instrumental
I feel like this is something you want to pay attention to while you listen rather than listening passively also. I'm gonna try it again when I have more attention to pay to it and I think I'll enjoy it better
This shit sounds like video game background music but weird. Definitely not my usual thing but I kinda liked it? It's good as background music while I'm working. I doubt I'll listen again but I appreciated its weirdness and whimsy.
The bits of speaking & singing were funny lol.
There was a lot of nothingness that we could have done without.... the parts that had any kind of beat were pretty good
I liked some songs but its kinda cringey idk
3.5
You have to love it its a crazy album its theatrical its awesome
that said I think its a great composition as a whole but it has some boring parts and I think its one where you wanna sit down and intentionally listen to the whole thing. It would be a good album to listen to while driving i think... Its very Stimulating for the brain. But well I think a lot of these songs I would not like to listen to them individually. Thats why its a 3.5 at best
But Side note. Last year I was watching rocky horror for the 6th time and i realised god meat loaf is actually really sexy. Somehow This hadnt occured to me in my first 5 watches but it was a very strong passion i felt all of a sudden. And Thats why im rounding it up to 4 stars from a 3.5
favourite song: bat out of hell
It's got some fun songs and it's probably a 3.5 but I'm feeling generous so I'll give it a 4
loved the first song "out in the street" so it put me in a good mood for the rest of the album. some of the songs weren't that great to me - in general i dont really like the layered vocals that are super typical of 60s rock, like the type that give it a beach boys sound.
others i enjoyed a lot - "my generation" is great of course. "it's not true" i found odd lol. "the ox" was an awesome instrumental.
I didnt really like it that much
MAKING MY RETURN TO 1001 ALBUMS BECAUSE THIS ALBUM IS SO SICKENING TO ME...
when i couldn't sleep as a child, i would go to my parents' room and they'd let me stay for a bit, then eventually they'd have to go back to sleep, so my mum would tuck me into bed and put on norah jones' "come away with me" on my CD player. as soon as she left i always felt so alone and i would cry though the album until i eventually fell asleep - especially, there's one song that goes like "just a little girl with nothing wrong, and she's all alone" and that one would always make me cry extra hard
it clearly did help me sleep because the start album is way more familiar to me than the end of it
i've tried to listen to this album as an adult hoping that it might be relaxing but every time it makes me so sad i feel sick. idrk how to rate it so it's getting a 4/5 because of its significance to me and the fact it's an amazing album but i'm removing 1 star because I actually can't listen to it
I dont care I didnt like it Such a bunch of WHATEVER
Yeah this is probably nice if you like this kind of stuff. It's well-done and they're good singers and all but this type of corny ass music makes me roll my eyes into the back of my head. "To know him is to love him" oh my god shut up sorry
not a fan of electronic music so i was probably never gonna like this... i feel like i could enjoy this at the club but otherwise would never listen
the song "D.A.N.C.E." is the only one i recognised, unfortunately i HAAAATE the use of children's voices, it makes it so annoying and grating.
Sadly i liked nothing about this. the electronic songs i didnt like and the lyrical songs were worse. Its getting 2 stars instead of 1 because i think I could dance to it at the club if i was drunk maybe i could enjoy some of the songs
Yasssssss
Obviously most of these songs are very famous and maybe I've heard some so many times that they lose a little bit of their appeal (specifically "Wake Me Up When September Ends"... just makes me roll my eyes at this point). But they're still awesome.... I think to me, the ballads have worn a bit thin but the classic tracks like "American Idiot" and "Holiday" remain great.
While most of this album is super familiar to me, I really enjoyed "Extraordinary Girl/Letterbomb" which I haven't listened to in YEEEEEEARs.... perhaps my favourite song on the album?
dookie clears tho
i fucking LOVE THIS ALBUM!!!!!!!
Idek what to say it's so fucking peak every song is perfect she's a genius. I feel like I listen to Frank more often maybe because it's a little bit lighter, but Back to Black is for sure the best display of her artistry... such a brilliant manifestation of so much heartbreak and angst and grief
I love Amy Winehouse so fucking much guys
i loved this!! very fast and heavy... it was awesome
well-produced too and I appreciated the length, short and sweet. some songs sounded very similar to each other, but towards the end of the album it got a bit more diverse
i don't always have the energy to listen to something like this but next time i feel like listening to something very fast and loud i'm gonna put this on... good discovery for me
