I can't listen to this all the way through. I just find his voice too grating! I am part way through Pennyroyal Tea and I have to turn it off. I can listen to some Nirvana but only a couple of songs at a time. I knew I would struggle with this one as soon as I saw it. The guitars sound very 'rich' and woody and I like that. But I can only take a little bit at a time! I don't get the appeal of Kurt Cobain and I never have and I know I'm in the minority but I can't help it.
I really liked this one and I think it's a perfect album. It sounds kind of cohesive and I like the blues-iness. I was struck by Plant's voice sounding like an old blues singer and how much it sounded American - sometimes it's a bit ridiculous actually. Bonham is having a great time. So much groove in all the tracks and I think pretty much EVERYONE would love this! I understand why it's rated so highly. It sounds blue with a serrated edge on the vocals, and there's silver in there too.
This is how I find out about Robert Johnson!
I like this album and understand why it's so highly rated. I like the way she uses her voice. Would be great as a Pitchblack Playback because of the imagery, although I hated the 8:44 track about the kid and his dad and going UP UP UP. Think it must have been really fun for her to perform but listening to it feels like getting dragged behind a car. Love Free Money and reminds me of night visions I used to have as a kid, that the shapes in front of my eyes would turn into presents during the night and I just had to capture as many as possible under my duvet. Groovy and danceable and cohesive.
I think this album is overrated. It mashes too many styles, sometimes in the same song. It sounds like walking through suburbia. I think it might take many repeat listens to grow on you. I do get the mood from the music though and it is cohesive. I wonder if you only had this CD, I think you would play it all the time driving around (if you lived in the suburbs) and I think it would come to signify a time in your life, and you would love it. I admire Billy Corgan's ambition. His voice is not that great but layered with these specific guitars, it does make a lovely noise.
Cheesy! Did not like this. Just thought the songs were very repetitive and don’t go anywhere, not like King Crimson. No heaviness no weight no progression.
Not feeling this. Sounds to me like generic indie and I don't why it's here. These are all starting to sound a bit samey now. Hope we get something that isn't rock soon. Dropping 1.5 song of the way in
Really like this! I've realised I rate on originality, groove and cohesion and this has all three. The long pieces are very interesting to listen to. I did have Willie The Pimp already saved in Apple Music, but on this listen I skipped - after listening to a bit of Joes' Garage and having to turn it off on Crew Sluts and doing a bit of googling only to realise that sexist shit was not ironic at all - I hate the subject matter. I won't always skip I don't think. I do like the groove. Otherwise the long pieces are a tiny bit too long, like 1-2 minutes. Love it overall wish he wasn't such an arsehole.
I didn’t think this was very original or compelling. The only interesting thing about it is his voice and the rest sounds mostly like generic folk to me.
I liked this one but didn’t get a chance for a full listen! It was disturbing and compelling, I was quite afraid listening to it on my own in a house.
Really like this one! Finally not rock. Ghostface is so charismatic, and what a voice. The whole album sounds like wood grain. Cinematic and cohesive and inventive beats
Weird pretty groovy and what a voice! Love the ambient interlude and like this album more than Low which was my fave I had heard until now
So weird. Joyful layered rainbow, weird bit sinister original has depth and strange. So pop fun strange. I’m so tired. Loved it
Didn’t listen to much of this - sounds like the pop punk of its day and that original or interesting? Fun though.
Just ok and a lot of the lyrics sound like novelty songs. Fatty and the successful friends one. Surely this is nowhere near the 1001 albums you should hear before you die. He is grating after about 30 minutes when the guitars aren’t jangly fun. Didn’t finish
I thought this didn't have the edge that I liked on my favourite HD songs and it all sounded a bit samey. Didn't finish
Just ok
Only half an hour here. Quite a sweet little album and I do like psych folk. Seems like an interesting backstory and seems quite original, to me a least. Only thing is quite a grating voice on the singer. Reminds me of Robert Plant with some things he does in places; I wonder who came first.
So textured and layered and weird. Listened to this on the hottest day on record in the UK and there was a sense of dread and a treacley-ness to the day that was perfect. A kind of transcendent state brought on by the heat.
Elevator muzak. Can’t stand it!
This one is just ok. I understood why isn’t caused such a splash when it came out, because it didn’t sound like anything else and they did seem original, but it just hasn’t stood the test of time- it’s not very interesting.
