A good listen but didn't have any of their best songs.
After a couple of listens Shining Star and Reasons are my favourite and I found the spoken word on All About Love quite funny.
I Wanna Be Adored is insanely good, the guitar sounds otherworldly, She Bangs The Drums and Fools Gold were great too. Nothing else stood out loads from the 2 full listens, and I don't think it needed to be an hour long. I was surprised how much 80s jangle pop sound there was but it makes it sound even more ahead of its time when you hear the outro of I am the Resurrection and Fools Gold at the end.
For such a quintessential 90s grunge album I was surprised at how much it sounded like late 80s hard rock. If Eddie Vedder's voice was pitched up I'd think a lot of these sounded like guns and roses songs, but I wouldn't do that because his voice sounds very nice the way it is.
Come together sounds electric yet restrained. Something is nice but I wouldn't call it one tlof the greatest love Songs ever. Maxwells and oh darling are my least favourite part of the album, usually Paul's ability to make a timeless song is one of his greatest assets as a songwriter but here it just makes them sound generic like they could've been written by anyone. Ocotpus' garden is delightful. I Want You (She's so Heavy) is one of the Beatles' best songs, George and Paul are note perfect, John's vocal performance I think is one of his best ever, and between this and Helter-skelter Skelter, Ringo might be kne of the best metal drummers ever desilpute not being a metal drummer. Here comes the sun and Because are great. You Never Give Me Your Money might be one of my favourite Paul songs and the rest of the medley works really well I liked how the pace seemed to get quicker as it went on.
Wow this guy can sing.
Some of my favourite vocal harmonies on an album, especially Concrete Jungle, Slave Driver, 400 years, and Midnight Ravers. Every song has amazing texture, timbre, and rhythm in the backing. Everytime I listen to the drums, keys, guitars on any song it feels like there's always something new to hear, they improvise just enough to keep it interesting whilst keep the groove locked down.
From the first minute of the album I was thinking it sounds too much like American swag rock, but as it went on I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't like that. The lead guitar playing reminded me of Vieux Farke Touré, the only other Malian artist I've listened to. My favourites are: Al Hassidi Terei, Nick, Wayei, Petit Metier, and Jolie, but all of the songs were good. Still in some places the production sounded a little too modern and overdone and me not understanding the lyrics probably takes away a lot of the emotional impact.
To my surprise, it turns out I've listened to Fela Kuti before, I listened to coffin of Coffin for Head of State about a year ago and remember liking it. Zombie had a great groove and I liked the outro. I really liked the bass and guitar on Mr. Follow Follow and how towards the end when the keys come in it really changes the song. Apparently the original LP only had these two but on the CD reissue and Spotify there is also Obsrvation Is No Crime and Mistake (Live). These two are good but I don't think they add much and aren't as good as the first two. Observation Is No Crime was my least favourite, Mr. Follow Follow was my favourite.
My favourites were Fast Cars and I Don't Mind, I really disliked Sixteen and Autonomy. The rhythm section sounded quite thin for the whole album, I like punk music but don't listen a lot and here there wasn't enough variety for me to want to listen to a while album of it. It felt a lot longer than 36 minutes to me.
Really great sound album but maybe a little long. My favourites were Need, Mudride, Hate the Police, and Halloween. Need sounded like a lot of Nirvana songs that would come later and I thought it was great when the just started play I Wanna Be Your Dog at the end of Halloween.
Dolly has a really nice vibrato and the band sounds good. Some good lyrics too but none of the songs really stood out to me.
Hot buttered beautiful bald head. I got goosebumps multiple times.
Of all the albums so far this is definitely the firthest from anything I've heard before. Some parts sound only nostalgic though, especially Lam Tooro and Muudo Hormo.
A 1 star here is probably more like a 3 or 4/10 normally but I've adjusted my scale for this list since most of the albums are supposed to be good. Which might be a problem when I get to Kid Rock. I didn't think it was terrible, I thought it was really bland and I couldn't find anything to like about it. Kind of sounds like Nickleback or Hoobastank era rock which to be fair is ahead of its time but I can't imagine this ever sounding groundbreaking.
Pretty groovy, pretty heavy. I like Anna, All Over the World, The Happening, and Havalina the most. I think the album flow gets pretty bad after the first few tracks, there's a lot of very short songs.
A couple of songs I didn't like but mostly it was good, and some great guitar tones. I would've loved it if I heard in in 2012.
It's so good. Despite the ridiculously all over the place track list it has a very nice flow and it has some of my favourite beatles songs. I respect putting Rev 9 on the album but I wish it was a little shorter, at least they had the decency to put it at the end. It makes it feel like an achievement to get to Good Night.
Before listening to this today I would've said I prefer the first album but after this relisten I finally understand why this one is more popular. Although, I wouldn't say there's any truly amazing songs on this they're all of a high quality. I'd say My favourites are Carry On, Almost Cut My Hair, and Country Girl.
Did not expect to hear the jackass theme half way through. It could definitely be shorter but the jazz and funk elements definitely give it a rhythmic and harmonic variety that I miss in most punk albums. All the songs are short and punchy but after 43 of them it's hard to think of anything that stood out.
This one is a certified dad rock classic. Down To The Waterline and Sultans Of Swing were my favourites. It can be corny at times but Mark Knofler has so many tasty minor licks I'll have to give it a pass.
