for this being my first ever album of his and introduction to him, 'bryter layter' was an absolute delight. 'at the chime of a city clock', ‘northern sky’ and ‘poor boy’ stand out as my personal favorites… the sax on this record as a jazz nerd… chills. every track carries the comfort of a warm hug on a dark autumn evening, and, his vocals / instrumentation complimenting it truly deserve far more recognition, in my opinion. what i wouldn't give to experience this live with my eyes closed.
botc is like one long soundtrack of what’s it like to live in the city, ‘boplicity’, ‘moon dreams’ and ‘godchild’ were particularly magical to me. pure feel good jazz, what’s there to say more.

such a fun time, especially because salsa music is quite a new genre to me. enjoyed looking up what siembra means, and learning that it’s to plant something like seeds, makes the babies on the album cover i guess make a little bit more sense to me now. 😭 favs: buscando guayaba, maría lionza, dime.
this genre (or album) is certainly not for me bc of the cringy lines and the way the soloist sounds cursing but i know it’s a throwback for a lot of people so i tried to let myself enjoy it… my favorites were bad habit (even though it all feels like a parody), gotta get away, and come out and play. the guitar and percussion were fun but what’s with smash and the five minute pause until they play the last minute?
the album’s a masterclass. i would give all the stars there ever could be out of five for this being my introduction to them and their genre as a whole. the guitars in every track are absolutely delicious and i loved that with each one i could go “oh this is still going on? sick”
one of those albums you remember forever. can’t adore my old man, little green, blue, and river enough. legendary and nothing like any singer-songwriter album ever. it’s simply life-changing.
silky smooth r&b but just like every comment reviewing it said, you can’t deny every song drags out and is almost like the perfect background music. may d’angelo rest in peace, this was beautiful! it’s a classic for a reason. my favorites were: the iconic brown sugar, me and those dreamin’ eyes of mine, cruisin’, and, higher.
the political impact of this piece of work and what followed right after it will forever leave a sour taste in my mouth, but, the energy of it is undeniable, and i will for sure be listening to this every time i need a pick me up! never knew jazz, afrobeats and funk could sound so good together and i loved the length of each of the four tracks! my favorites were def zombie and mistake 👌🏼
