Album Summary

Oranssi Pazuzu is a Finnish psychedelic black metal band formed in 2007. The band originally consisted of vocalist and guitarist Juho "Jun-His" Vanhanen, drummer Jarkko "Korjak" Salo, guitarist Moit, keyboardist and percussionist Ville "Evil" Leppilahti, and bassist Toni "Ontto" Hietamäki. Moit left the band in 2016 and was replaced by Niko "Ikon" Lehdontie of Kairon; IRSE!. The band takes its name from "oranssi", the Finnish word for the color orange, and Pazuzu, a wind demon from Babylonian mythology. The band's style is described as a fusion of elements of psychedelia, dark ambient and Krautrock. AllMusic's James Christopher Monger described the band's music as a combination of black metal, psychedelic rock, space rock, and progressive metal. The band are considered by some to be one of the greatest progressive black metal bands of all time. Jordan Blum of Loudwire said they were "among the most fascinatingly idiosyncratic and fearless groups" in the genre. Refused drummer David Sandstrom cited Oranssi Pazuzu as his favorite band.

Well, I started enjoying this, then frealised it was Scandi metal, panicked, Googled them, and it turns out that they are a great, fun Finnish black metal band who DON'T associate with Nazis, the alt right or any other inbred group responsible for making the world a shitty place. In short, a dude that sounds like a goblin croaking and growling over some sludgy metal. It's good!

Hell yeah, Finnish psychedelic black metal . Always love when a cool international contribution comes up on the user list, even more so when it’s a unique blend of genres I would’ve never thought to try. This LP does sag under the weight of its ideas (and a bit of mids-fatigue from the constant walls of guitar) at times, but its ambition and scope are pretty insane and I applaud the band for going full-send. Even the creepy little edlritch guy vocals grew on me by the end, and the blend of proggier elements alongside chugging guitar resulted in some exceptional highs. Cool add, will have to dig into this band’s discography a bit more.

Mestarin kynsi ("The Masters Claw") is the fith album of Finnish psychedelic black metal band Oranssi Pazuzu. The music is epic, psychedelic, orchestral metal with a hint of fusion. I listened to it twice and it was ok, but not as special as several reviewers mention. I found the keyboard sound a bit cheap at times and the song progression a bit slow. It's fine, but not one of my favorite albums in the genre.

Another album that’s not for me. I just don’t get this kind of music.

The balls on u, man.

Finally, some good fucking food

Oh yes, this is good. Wanted to add Alon Mor's Lands of Delight, and this almost kind of scratches the same itch as that album does. (Even thought it is very different)

Yessss. Dense Metal is an acquired taste and I can barely listen to a whole record without feeling dizzy or wanting to go outside and touch some grass, but I loved this.

Even as someone who listens to a lot of extreme metal, this is a lot. Very long, very heavy, very loud (if you're doing it right), incomprehensible vocals (even by Scandi standards), but the world is a better place because someone is pushing the edges this far!

While I like psychedelic metal music sound, the vocals are throwing me off a bit.

Dank and dark but much more cinematic than I was expecting. Good stuff!

I didn't mind what was going on musically, an interesting offshoot of metal, bringing to mind aspects of krautrock, experimental/extreme jazz, even hints of progressive rock, though obviously with a very hard shell. The vocals as usual I just can't get with. The use of the human voice as that particular kind of instrument just does nothing for me.

Finnish goblin singing over video game final boss battle music. Pretty cool. Singer definitely hangs out under a bridge asking people to solve his riddles three. Strong 3/5.

This is quite a thing... I liked the trippy music pretty well. The goblin chatter would make this a great thing for a more extreme haunted house. It's all in Finnish so I am not sure what I was listening to. Not really something I'll be listening to again but I wasn't mad to give it a go once.

Finnish psychedelic black metal or so Wikipedia says. It's definitely heavy. I definitely don't understand the words. And it definitely helped me fade away from reality but also maybe feel anxious. So I think I agree with Wikipedia

Musically, I found this somewhat interesting, but I just couldn't with the singing, sorry. 2 stars.

I just couldn't get into it. Too loud. Not my bag baby.... 1/5
