The Last Broadcast
DovesIt was a pretty generic, but some songs were really good. N.Y. was my favorite 2.5 /5
It was a pretty generic, but some songs were really good. N.Y. was my favorite 2.5 /5
Started off good, but then ran out of steam. Sort of generic and not worth a spot on this list 2
Loved this and listened to a ton of their music afterward
This 1001 thing has taught me I am a Smashing Pumpkins fan
Nothing more rock n roll than marrying your 13 year old cousin at the age of 22
Hippy butt rock 6/10
Not really what I had in mind for the top 1001 albums
Nothing more rock n roll than marrying your 13 year old cousin at the age of 22
I can hear how this influenced bands I like today which is cool. Didn't know this was the Come On Eileen band. 4/5
Thoroughly enjoyed. 5/5
If I took a hit of acid and put on Aumgn there is no telling where I would end up. 5/5
I can see how this is a seminal album in the hip hop genre, but its not my favorite. There is a style of hip hop just after this in the later 90's that I like more. The beats are simpler and more jazz influenced and the rap has a little more rhythm. Shut em down was my favorite on the album. 3.5 / 5
It was really good, probably ahead of its time, but too mellow throughout for me. 3/5
Just not a folk guy. 2/5
Liked the album and it's fun to hear where all the post-punk bands I regularly listen to come from. 4/5
It's an interesting amalgamation of genres, but it made it hard for me to really get into it. 2/5
So relaxing and easy to listen to. 4/5
Jazzy beats, playful laid back lyrics. Ali Shaheed Muhammad is a legend. Needs more Phife Dawg. 4/5
I was going to give this 2 stars because they tried, but then I remembered I gave The Band 2 stars and they are way better than this. 1/5
Pretty good. Sounds like a precursor to Britpop. Album cover would give Marco Rubio a conniption which is a plus. 3/5
Solid rock / punk rock. 3.5 / 5, but I can't round up to 4 on this one.
Have to be in the mood, but if you are its awesome. Giving it 3/5 because while I like it the times I would listen are limited.
Its hard for me to give jazz albums more than a 3 because my setting is key to my enjoyment, but in a on-the-laptop-at-work context I'm loving these jazz albums. 3/5 except when at work 5/5.
Every genre all at once. Love me some Gorillaz. 4/5
Pressed play assuming it was going to be 3 stars, but I forgot how much I liked this album back in the day. Some classics on here. Shame the rest of their career is meh. 4/5
One of the few QOTSA albums I haven't listened to. Pretty good, but compared to my staples, not one of their best. 3/5
I want to like it, and sometimes I do. 3/5
If I was on a farm in Sonoma County I think I would be into it. 2/5
This album could have come out yesterday. Sounds fresh and I love the variety of songs. 4/5
I'm a little torn on this one. I really liked it, but is it a 4? I want to say its like a 3.8, but at that point might as well round up. 4/5
This album is very nostalgic for me, but lets be honest, its not great. 3/5 for the memories
Solid rock n roll
Trippy album cover, awesomely weird music. 4/5
Like it a lot more than I expected. Would I put it on again? Unclear. 3/5
I like the new direction Blur went on this record. This along with Parklife are probably their best albums. I would say something like 3.7 but gonna round up because Blur is awesome. 4/5
There are bands I listen to today that have this same rambling style such as The War on Drugs, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, Courtney Barnett etc. Never listened to a ton of Bob Dylan, but its cool to hear his influence on music I listen to today. 3/5
I liked it. It wasn't as interesting to me as maybe it was intended to be. 3/5
Pretty raw rock n roll which I an appreciate it, but really not that interesting to me. 2/5
I enjoyed this a lot more than I was expecting. Some of the songs on this album are so smooth and infectious. The songs People Everyday, Natural, and Washed Away really stuck out to me. That said, some other songs don't hold up to father time. Thinking of Children Play With Earth thru Give A Man A Fish. 3/5
Love The Smiths. The latter part of the album is not my favorite, but the rest more then makes up for it. Great album to go out on.. 4/5
It was fine. In my limited exposure to jazz this is not my favorite 2/5
As far as country goes it was good. 2/5
Love this album and its clever use of samples. Ground breaking stuff at the time, but it just drags on a little too much for me in some places. A Different Feeling into Electricity is the best part of this album. 4.5 but cant get to 5. So 4/5
I think I like it? 3/5
Thoroughly enjoyed this album. 4/5
Not really my thing 2/5
I was confused by this album. The rhythm seemed to be all over the place. Maybe it was a case of the wrong place wrong time. I’ll listen to it again in the future. 2.5 / 5
Hits front to back. Classic album. 100/100
Good live album. There were some songs I know and like that I would have never guessed were Peter Frampton, but maybe thats just me being music illiterate if it came before the 90s 3/5
Don’t get me wrong, this is a great album, but for its genre. Not what I expected from 1001 albums 3/5
I mean, it's a solid album, but nothing groundbreaking. 3/5
Ehh not for me but not as bad as UB40 2/5
I'm glad I didn't grow up in the 50s 2/5
Maybe if it wasn't a double album. I liked most of it, but some parts of felt languished 3/5
Not really my style of hip hop, but extra points for Oakland 3/5
Liked it more than I thought I would. Some pretty interesting stuff in this album
I dont know, I was kind of bored? Music was good, but nothing really grabbed my attention in two listens. Maybe future listens will change my mind 2/5
I dont know maybe Portola has ruined me for a bit, but I thought this was just fine. 2/5
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 2/5
I dont know, it was fine. I wont listen to it again, but I enjoyed the hour 2.7/5 so I'll go 3/5
I really liked this. Might be a time and place thing, but her piano play and emotion in her voice really stuck out to me. I would put it at like 3.4, 3.5, so I'll say 3/5
I was excited after listening to Joshua Tree but this is meh. 2/5
Seems fine. Do people like Led Zeppelin or something? 3/5
Great beats that all kind of sound the same and not my favorite lyrics or style of rhyme. But, It's heavily influential on the hip hop I love and listen to regularly so thats worth an extra star. 4/5
What a delight to listen to. I loved it. 5/5
I really enjoyed that. Based on the rock music I listen to today this felt like a melting pot of genres. 4/5
It's hard because I love this album but I hate who Kanye has become. I'm just gonna be neutral and say 3/5
Some good some bad. 3/5
Again, I think I like it? Not as impressive as the last one and way too long for me to make it all the way through. 2/5 because I lost interest before the end
Often overlooked because of Kid A, but a great album in its own right. Some Radiohead classics on this album. Pyramid Song, You and Whose Army, Knives Out, I Might Be Wrong. 4/5
I can't. Not as bad as ub 40 though. I liked Cajun Woman 2/5
Solid rock music 3/5
2/5
It was good. Didn't seem that special, but I also didn't read about it so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 3/5
4/5
Dont make me like you, Flaming Lips 3.5/5 so 3/5
Great start to the album but kind of petered out toward the end. Overall was pleasantly surprised. 3.5 / 5 so I'll go 3/5
Not a fan of the earlier Beatles 2/5
Couldn't get through it. Cool guitars. 1/5
It's like arena rock meets punk? Kinda weird, but there is enough there for me. 3/5
Extra star because Smoke On The Water was the first riff I learned to play when I was learning how to play an guitar and then bass 3/5
Yeah, I get it. His voice is not for me 3/5
3.5 / 5
Kinda sounds like a bad version of good electronic music 2/5
I really liked this. It was fun, interesting, and every song felt like its own unique piece of a larger puzzle. 4/5
It's incredibly uninteresting 1/5
Yeah good. The singles are obviously the best songs, but overall pretty solid 90's rock 3/5
Its like Britpop meets Shoegaze and I'm here for it
It was a pretty generic, but some songs were really good. N.Y. was my favorite 2.5 /5
Music that I like while not being all that interesting. 2/5
3/5
Heard this album in Rs500 and I'm not going to do it again. It was fine, a little dull, with some really good parts. 3/5
Some good, some not so good. I would give it 2.5 if I could 2/5
I watched the tik tok video and enjoyed myself. 3/5
good 3/5
Lovely stuff 4/5
Not my favorite smiths album, but still pretty good. I want to do 3.5 or something, but I'm rounding up in this case :) 4/5
An absolute classic 5/5
I really enjoyed this. I think jazz has been my favorite genre discovery while listening to these albums. 4/5
I think I liked it? The record was over and I didn't really have thoughts either way 3/5
This was really great 4/5
Its fine 3/5
Liked it more than I thought I would 3/5
3/5
Love this album 5/5
Little too early in its development as a genre for me, but I can see how this influenced James Murphy's earlier work 3/5
funky 4/5
Listened to this in RS500. I thought it was good, but nothing really blew me away 3/5
Met Guru randomly on the street at SXSW. Someone in front of me recognized him and a few us took turns saying hello. Really nice guy and awesome music. One of my favorites from this era 4/5
What a journey through many genres all at once. 4/5
I dont care if people think its repetitive and boring, this music is awesome and it came out in friggin 1977! 4/5
Love The Chronic. Runs a little long for me, but cant deny its impact on west coast and rap in general. $20 sack pyramid is my favorite skit 4/5
I really liked this. Interesting song writing and mix of genres. I would probably say 3.5/5 3/5
This was awesome 4/5
Perfectly average rock n roll music 3/5
Enjoyable bleeps and bloops
Solid electronic music. 3.5/5
Smooth 4/5
Love this album. I'm going 5 because there was a period of time where i listened to this once a day 5/5
Might be an Adele fan 3/5
I thought I liked it but then it became background noise 3/5
Tried to like it but i cant 2/5
It's fine 3/5
It really wasn't that interesting and the orchestra wasn't providing a ton to the show 2/5
Delightfully odd 4/5
Everything is an exclusive 3/5
It was good and it was short 4/5
It is very good 5/5
I enjoyed listening to it, but I wont be playing it again 3/5
Not my favorite but extra star for playing Walon in The Wire 3/5
I liked this one more than Purple Rain 3/5
It took me a second listen, but I actually really like this. The song writing is interesting and reminds me a little of early Radiohead 4/5
I tried and I wanted to like it, but I could not
I've heard of Jeru, but never listened to him before. I really like this album and it's another sign of how good the 90s New York hip hop scene was. 4/5
Very pleasant listening for a rainy day like today! 4/5
Lovely stuff 4/5
Way more of a jam than I was expecting, but I really only knew their huge singles before this. I would say 3.5 if we could give half stars, but I'm going to settle on 3 stars because its unlikely I listen to this more than once or twice 3/5
A really good album with some instant classics. I'm a blond guy though.
Enjoyed listening and she is clearly talented, just not something I would listen to daily. 3/5
Probably dont need 2 hours of this, but a great album nonetheless. I had listened to this once before and it didn't stick, but a second time through proved to the sweet spot 4/5
This album is proof The Roots can do anything, but it doesn't hit the same heights as their best work. 3/5
I really like this album. For whatever reason I haven't been able to get into more U2 than Joshua Tree, but I always enjoy listening to this one. 4/5
Credit for trying something new and paving the way for future generations, but this was a little too raw for me 2/5
Probably good for a country album, but not good to my ears. 1.5/5
No comment necessary on this one 5/5
This was a pleasant listen and something fresh from the normal albums on this list 3.5 / 5
The c the h the e the m the i the c the a the l the brotherrrrs! 5/5
It was ok. I couldn't make it through the whole record, but the first half or so is decent 2/5
Some amazing highs, but a little bloated for me 3.5/5
It was good. Good tunes and overall enjoyed my time, but nothin more than 3 stars 3/5
Great album! She's got an awesome music and acting career. Dual threat. 4/5
Solid punk music that had an outsized impact on later music I love. This is a little too before my time, though. 3/5
His voice really didn't do it for me. But im sure there are good songs in here. 2/5
Not at all my thing 1/5
I gotta say, I find Justice a little overrated. They apply the same formula to basically every song on the album and it wears on me after a while. That said, lots of great tunes on here. Album is a tad too long and bloated for anything higher than a 3 3/5
I thoroughly enjoyed this and went on a nice jazz rabbit hole afterward. 4/5
I dont know its fine. Probably high 2s 3/5
I like it, but is it really an album I had to listen to? 3/5
I could have done coke with the black keys once at a festival. My sister knew one of the organizers and opted not to go hang out with him that day. Afterward he told her of his experience with the black keys backstage. What could have been. That said, I've never been a big fan. 3/5
I was pretty bored by this. Couldn't make it through. 2/5
meh 2/5
I liked this a lot more than I thought I was going to. Great album name as well. 3.5/5, but I'll do 3/5 here.
2/5
Hmm not for me 2/5
Overrated and boring 2/5
Love it. 4/5
Sounds like the beginnings of pop punk 3/5
Not my favorite Pink Floyd album, but still really solid 3/5
Some interesting some boring. Perfect recipe for 3/5
This is lovely 4/5
Interesting blend of rock genres. Sounds like Pavement to me. 3/5
Smooth af 4/5
5/5
Love me some Blur. Absolute bangers on this album, but runs a little long for me. I would give it something close to 4, but I can't go to 4 so 3/5
An hour of TLC feels like a lot. Creep is a banger though. 2/5
It was fine. Music was interesting, but not a huge fan of the vocals
Some songs are really interesting, some are quite boring. Right in the 3 zone 3/5
Kinda one note, but I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. 3/5
I like this album, but it always represented raps shift to pop for me. 3/5
Good vibes 3/5
stone cold classic 5/5
Singles are the weakest part of this album and it really doesn't belong on this list, but a solid album nonetheless. 3/5
It was very strange and I dont know if I actually liked it, but I also could not stop listening to it 2/5
Never judge a book by its cover, kids. Very enjoyable 3/5
Not a fan of Coldplay these days, but there is no denying this album and Rush of Blood are top quality 4/5
Right place right time for this record. I was in the mood for something chill and Beth Orton delivered. 3/5
It's fine 2/5
I made an honest effort, but I dont know about this. 1/5
Lovely 3.5/5
I got bored after a while 2/5
I dont feel like a lot happened, but it was sort of interesting 2.5/5
Really enjoyed it. I want to say 3.5 / 5, but can't go to 4 so its a classic 3 out 5 3/5
Good music for a beautiful Bay Area morning 3/5
I really liked this 4/5
Seemed fine. Made me want to listen to Fiona Apple 2/5
The album version of the show Top Boy. Great show, but the album is not doing it for me. Probably 2.5/5 2/5
It's basically one 43 minutes song, but I like the song 3/5
Kinda bland
3/5
Groovy 3/5
Smooth 3/5
Core memory of peeing in an empty beer cup amongst friends waiting for the chili peppers to come on stage 4/5
Sometimes I like it and sometimes it's meh. so 3/5
4
3/5
Doesn't feel like anything spectacular 2/5
4/5
3/5
I originally gave this a 3, but the autoplay after this album was playing some absolute bangers so this gets a 4 now
What a find. Loved every minute of this. 5/5
Just kinda generic rock. Not doing much for me. 2/5
3
I guess I could try translating the lyrics, but I dont think it would make it better 1
It was slow to start, but once it got going it was pretty sweet 4
100/100 best rap album ever made
Vivid memories of back yard bbq at my friend Ryan's house in the Vacaville countryside 4
ehhh. Better than I thought, but still not great. 2
Get out of the kitchen if you cant handle the heat 4
3
4
Jams 4
Not a lot happened 2
Interesting listen 3
3
I really enjoyed this. Not something I would listen to on a regular basis, but in the moment its really good 4
Good start and at first I thought the second half was kind of interesting, but then it grew old and I was ready to stop listening 2
3.5
3
Got lost in this music. Really nice 4
Some questionable lyrics that wouldn't fly today, but overall I enjoyed listening to this 3
Good shit 4
4
If it beats out Nirvana for album of the year its probably pretty good 4
A pretty interesting array of musical styles. Gutter cats vs the jets caught me off guard. 3
This is lovely 3
Great album. All Blues was my favorite 5
Some classics on here, but the album is bloated. The What is one of my favorites 3/5
I've tried to listen to several Velvet Underground albums and every time I'm somewhat bored. It's good, but I feel like it's not going anywhere A really soft 3/5
I have a soft spot for rambling music like this 3
This is great 4
Lovely stuff 4
I have no idea if I like this or not so I'm just going with 3
Meh not that interesting. I like the beat, but it sounds too familiar to be unique 2
I really, really enjoyed this. Bops all the way through.
Not for everyone, but I love it. I'd probably go 3.5, but rounding to 4 in case I dont rate another Sonic Youth album
Beautiful album 4
3
Lovely stuff 4
This was really fun. It's especially impressive that it came out in 89. Just a little too long 3
Its fun. I love the album cover. 3.5/5
It was fine 2.7/5
Punk rock is 16 songs in 34 minutes 3
Kinda bored, but I'm a big Depeche Mode singles guy so 3 stars overall 3
I grew up listening to this album. One my moms favorites. 4/5
I kinda of tuned out. Less offensive version of Sublime 2.5/5
3
Nice to hear to some music I wouldn't have discovered on my own in a hundred years 3
Glorified singles band 2
Ok fine I like Neil Young 4
I love this 4
Dad with a Hawaiian shirt rock. Didn't finish it 2
This was fantastic. This whole record sounds like something Daft Punk sampled at one point 4
Not really in the mood for this right now 2
Something there, definitely interesting, but not for me 2
Delightfully weird 3/5
4
4
3
4
Weird in all the right ways. 3
4
meh kind of bored
Something there, but not for me 2
I judged a book by its cover and I was right in doing so. 1
A concert and comedy show 4
delightfully funky
The band name and album cover do not match the music 3
It was a pleasant listen 3
I'm most likely missing the historical context, but its kinda meh to me... A really soft 3
I could see this being the soundtrack to a Quentin Tarantino western 1
2
Interesting blend of sound 3
The basis for a lot of music I love and cherish today 5
When I worked at Eventbrite there was a small, but loud group of Nick Cave stans who were insufferable. Kind of ruined him for me. 2
East Bay represents!
I tried, but I just cant 1
3
Its fine. Definitely not a 1001 album I need to hear before I die 2
Based on the lyrics of the opening song, America can talk to Morrissey now
Liked it more than I thought, but also wasn't going to listen to an hour of it
3
This is right up my alley, but not really a 1001 album I need to hear before I die 3
This was a lot of fun. Nice triphop vibes and a lot better than the aggregate rating I say 3.5 out 5
It's good, but we've heard this album several times now
I can see why this is good, but its not good to my ears 2
Another album that I like, but does it need to be on a list of 1001 albums I need to hear before I die? 3
Just seems like the perfect definition of average
Love this 4
Meh
The bad reviews on this one I think are reacting to the sometimes corny rap lyrics, but the music itself is fucking awesome.
Always nice hearing a hip hop album from San Francisco. A rare thing 4
This is really boring and not innovative at all. Remove from list 2
I really enjoyed this and the rating under 3 is not right.
3
This is the kind of stuff I want more of from this list. This isn't music I would listen to on a given day, but I love her voice. Its nice to be pushed out of my comfort zone
I cracked up when I heard the line about sticking your dick in mashed potatoes
Meh im going back to KEXP 2
Its fine
Loved this and listened to a ton of their music afterward
Thank you, Elvis, for all of your work, but this is version of Rock n Roll is too old for me
I thought it was pretty interesting. Dragged a little, but overall a fun listen. 3
I dont know seems like standard 70's experimental rock to me. I liked it. Like Pink Floyd more. 3
No doubt historically significant, but this doesn't hold up 2
hippie shit. I was kind of into it, but also didn't want to continue. Extra point for not being the same 60s/70s retread albums you see on this list 3
I did not like this
Liked it more than I thought I would. Refreshing to hear something new 3
Nah
It's haunting and I love it
Honestly never got into The White Stripes or Jack White. I like it just fine, but I don't find it transformational in any way. 3
Not a huge fan 2
Lovely experimental electronic music
Ended up listening to a lot of Joy Division so that's a plus
I dont like this
Kinda boring 2
4
This is better than technique
not my favorite Pink Floyd album, but I can see how they evolved into what they did
Very pleasant listen on a Friday afternoon
It was kind of cool. To be honest I couldn't tell you a stand out track because it all sounded the exact same 3
Not in the mood for this today
Sorry Frank, but you're too old
12 songs, 30 minutes. Its a beautiful thing. 3
Didn’t listen but I know this record already
Kind of sounds like modern yodeling 2
3
Incredibly boring
I'm mean look not everyone is going to like this, but no one can deny the impact Kraftwerk had on music. 3
This is the type of stuff that makes me love this list.
The haters are weird. This was delightful 3.5
Meh. Didn't hate it. Probably 2.5
meh
Better than The Beach Boys
At first I was into it, but now its annoying
It was fine
Loved it.
I listened to the one song available on Spotify. I liked that it was different from my normal music, but not album im going to seek out elsewhere
Was fine. Wont listen again.
Wasn't in the mood for this one
Bad version of Smashing Pumpkins
I stopped caring about 3 songs in
big meh
Yeah fine, good.
Not sure about this one
I think if I listened at a park or something I would feel differently. Like the music, hate the vocals
Its fine. Good for night out at a wannabe cowboy bar
Good department store music
Lost interest half way through
Extra star for Fast Car being such a banger
I have no feelings about this one
Very cool
Excellent
I struggle with this one. Its incredibly interesting, but as I understand it, also controversial for the treatment of the recording artists on this record.
Love it. Made a new fan today.
I like this because it is music that I like. But this is another album that could have been replaced with something outside of the anglo-saxon world
Extra points for influencing the hip hop music I like
I can't give this a bad review after I just said I wanted less of the standard english rock band. So 3 stars for giving me something different
Honestly think this album is overrated
I liked it, but I was also ready for it to be over.
People are going to hate this, but those people suck
meh
This is great. A really nice blend of pop music. 4
Swap this for something that is not drivel from England.
Id rather stick a needle in my ear than listen to these assholes
This 1001 thing has taught me I am a Smashing Pumpkins fan
I've heard better Beatles records
Most likely a 2.8 or something. It was fine, but I'm ready to move on.
Cheap arena rock 2
Rock n roll babyyyy
Yawn dude.
Wanted to like it, but didn't get there
Got lost in this album. Thats a good thing 4
Some good some lame. 3 zone
Not the biggest Dylan fan. This is fine.
I dont know not a big folksy guy
This is the kind of shit I want to hear on this thing. I'm giving it 4 stars mostly as encouragement to branch out in terms of musical genres. We dont need anymore half assed albums from England
This is fantastic
Started off good, but then ran out of steam. Sort of generic and not worth a spot on this list 2
Too early in the evolution of The Rolling Stones for me
Some of the negative reviews for this album, sheesh. Go jerk off to picture of Bob Dylan or something and let go a little. 5 stars to balance out the negative nancys
This aint it
I like the music, but this is not an album I needed to hear
This was a lot better than I thought it was going to be.
Yeah, I'm not going to listen to all of this
Nope
Good for a concert in the park on a Friday night in some random suburb, but not for this list
Hell yeah! One of the first rap albums I truly loved and the first show I went to by myself. Saw him at The Fillmore in SF way back in the day and he did not disappoint. The run from The Instrumental to The Emperor's Soundtrack is exquisite!
This album is not on Spotify so I listened to a live set from KEXP. They are good and I'll listen to more later.
It was good but then it became too much southern rock for me
I would give this a 3 normally, but some of these reviews man. You guys need to get out more.
This was super interesting and I'm glad its on the list. Its a little bloated, though
Who cares
Some good some bad. Certainly interesting and worthy of this list
Kind of over it
4
Fuck yeah
We dont need anymore Van Morrison albums
Solid 3
Not bad for a country album, but im not going to listen to this again
This was fine. Good pop tunes, but the album is way too long
I was grooving but then it all started to sound the same
Some good some bad. Not really my cup of tea, but I see the appeal and some songs hit that pop fan nerve
Big meh
I'm ambivalent about Metallica albums, but these guys put on one hell of a live show
it was fine
Sweet
Not his best work
Not a big reggae fan
