Did I ever watch the movie? No? But I could be living it with this album. Hauntingly beautiful

This was a long and boring album. All of these songs could be trimmed of their fat. Last song is 16 minutes without ever changing anything.

Known for the titeltrack, but there's a lot more to this album. It's generally, with one exception, a sad album, but heartfelt and beautiful.

Not much of a soul man, though it has a few standout tracks
Deep Purple

This album contains a classic hit that most people heard one time too many. Even with that crux the rest of the album is amazing. Space trucking, highway star, lazy, ... all deserve as much adoration as smoke on the water. Almost 50 years old and still timeless

Like most Nu Metal albums around that time, this one feels way too long with some fillers. You either hate or love Durst' lyrics, for me it's a bit too cringey. The real star here is Wes Borland and his guitarwork imo.

This is not a bad slipknot album, quite honestly, I quite like it. But its inclusion in this list baffles me.
It's where their chaotic original sound made way for a mainstream approach. And less of a trailblazer. Best part about this album is the drumming. My god, does it stand out.

This what started extreme metal. Thrash and black metal (and by expansion death metal) would not exist without the sloppy but heavy sound of Cronos, Mantas and Abaddon. It is very much a product of it's time, since nowadays it could be considered cheesy and messy. Back in it's day however this was the epitome of evil.

2/5
Lacking substance imo bland
Johnny Cash
5/5
Hurt was the first Johnny Cash song I ever heard. I'm probably not alone in that. Other songs I discovered later we're his country songs and this made me utterly confused. After some research I could scratch an itch with his American recordings. With the aforementioned Hurt, Personal Jesus and the titeltrack ( cleverly used in Dawn Of The Dead) it has an all star tracklist allready. Other personal favourites are We'll meet again, Tear Stained Letter and in my life. A sublime last effort from the man in black
Mike Ladd
4/5
Excellent experimental take on hiphop
Air
5/5
Did I ever watch the movie? No? But I could be living it with this album. Hauntingly beautiful
Garbage
5/5
Being born in 1990 it's hard for me to estimate the popularity of an album at it's release. Is garbage underrated or did I miss their glorydays? This selftitled album deserves to be spoken in the same breath as other alternative classics from bands like Smashing Pumpkins, REM and Jane's Addiction... or does it allready do?
Leonard Cohen
5/5
I draw parallels between this album and David Bowie's Blackstar. Both released days before the demise of their creator and carrying gravitas and a rather sombre atmosphere.
Erykah Badu

Never heard this band, but heard of this band. Honestly I was expecting early Motley Crue or early Twisted Sister leanings. This goes more for the first Aerosmith influences. Which is fine I guess. But I would like to have heard some more grit. Good, not great.

The Kinks
5/5
Louis Prima
5/5
Forget Ozzy Osbourne, Henry Rollins or Iggy Pop. This man is the real madman! The wildest!
Motörhead
5/5
Look, I'm incredibly biased when it comes to Motörhead. I own all 23 albums, got a big snaggletooth tattoo and celebrate Christmas eve as the birt of our true savior, Lemmy Kilmister. Even tho it's not my personal favourite, it's an easy 5 stars.
Miles Davis
4/5
Definitely cool.
Eminem
5/5
Even though I prefer his second album, this is still an amazing 5/5 album. Where later the Slim Shady persona would only ocassionally rear it's head, on this release it's very much in charge. Foulmouthed, antagonistic and crazy, sure, but also pushing the envelope and dragging an entire generation with him.
The Boo Radleys
2/5
Incubus

Was familiar with two songs. I could have sworn this band was a 70's 80's band. Good songs nice atmosphere. Did well in this house
Baaba Maal
3/5
I liked it better than his other entry but not by a lot.
Eminem
5/5
Less 'crude' production than his debut. Really love this split personality with Eminem, Slim Shady and Marshall going on. Has an edge to it with songs like Kim that probably drew in a few Nu Metal/ alt kids
Brian Eno
3/5
The Jesus And Mary Chain
3/5
XTC
3/5

The Undertones
4/5

The Velvet Underground

Gotan Project
4/5
Tango for the 21st century. Dig it.
Elliott Smith
3/5
Emotional, and the lofi production makes it personal on a level. However it feels a bit samey at moments, and sometimes a bit whiney.
Wild Beasts
3/5
Liked the music to an extent, but the voice really annoyed me.
Carpenters
3/5
A bit too goody two shoes for my book. But can Karen sing or what?!
The Stooges
4/5
The only thing this has going against it, is that it's not funhouse. Some of this was a bit drawn out (looking at you, We Will Fall) and made up on the spot but otherwis, this is great and raw to a degree.
Dizzee Rascal
2/5
Hmmmm
Minutemen
3/5
Wanted to rate this higher, but there is a whole side that's filler. Al in fun, these guys never thought about their legacy I guess.
Def Leppard
4/5
Compression: the album.
But they make it work for them,. This has not aged with grace, but it's fun , dumb and catchy.
Frankie Goes To Hollywood
3/5
Kind of a mixed bag. By making this an unnecesarry double album, it gets a point less. It could do without the covers. The title track and the singles are the highlights in my opinion.
N.E.R.D
4/5
Ramblin' Jack Elliott
4/5
An engaging storyteller. Despite its rudimentary nature this is a very compelling album
Caetano Veloso
3/5
The flow of this is great, the music good and compelling, having a bit of trouble connecting with it personally however.
ABBA
5/5
Nobody does it like Abba. This is darker and ads more hurt, stepping away from the eurovision style.
Everything But The Girl
5/5
I feel every second of this album. Mesmerizing!
Cocteau Twins
2/5
I recognise the beauty but for me this was pretty forgettable
Animal Collective
1/5
This album irritates me. It's weird, I know, but the urge to skip this was immense.

Pet Shop Boys
3/5
I gave Actually a 5, this wasn't a hit for me ( hello, controversial artist). This was perhaps a more grown sound. Doesn't mean I have to love it.
Holger Czukay
5/5
For fans of experiment, mash up or, hell, breakcorefans taking opium. This one hell of an album, flirting with everything from pop to classical and even Arabic music.
Johnny Cash
5/5
As a millenial my closest connection with Johnny Cash are the American recordings. Objectively looking however I feel this period of his life is where his best recordings are. The Man In Black persona begins to manifest. Nothing but respect.
Aretha Franklin
5/5
R-e-s-p-e-c-t. This queen has earned it.
Steely Dan
5/5
Saw this morning that my album was Can't buy a thrill. I brew a pot coffee, lounged in the couch, put the record on and got to 7th heaven. Damned, I'm not in my late fourties, why do I like this?
Sly & The Family Stone
3/5
White Denim
3/5
The relevance of this album escapes me, but considering they need modern albums in this list, I kinda get it. This feels like a jamband, but it's quite clear that's just an impression. The musicianship is good, but my personal bias to this kind of music is really fighting me on this. Words like patchoulli and soundtrack to campertrips for trustafarians ring through my head. If I was an asshole I would give this a 1. I'm going with a 3, I could still be an asshole though.
Slint
4/5
Echo And The Bunnymen
3/5
Paul Revere & The Raiders
3/5
Afgerond naar boven maar voor mij is dit 2,7 max
Taylor Swift
4/5
I understand that she's a bit of a divisive artist, but I don't really know why. That aside, i think this is the epitome of 2010's pop, atleast the female led side. Does it work for me? The upbeat songs I definitely like, to a point. But the others fail to hit me. Lyrics are sometimes a bit cringy, but it's (ultra-)mainstream pop so it comes with the territory. I'm floating between a 3 and a 4 but it being a cultural behemoth, I'll grant it a 4.

David Bowie

Mudhoney
5/5
This explodes immediately! Banger after banger! Rip my eardrums!
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
3/5
Am I wrong? Is this album 42 songs long? It took me 3 days. Best 12 songs would have made a 4, but I'm not built for this.
Simon & Garfunkel
5/5
Hawkwind
3/5
Way too long. It's its own special thing, but I like the idea of it more than the execution.
Stevie Wonder
5/5
Everybody has a favourite Stevie Wonder album, right? The only mistake this album has for me is that it's not Talking Book.
The White Stripes
4/5
Good
The Rolling Stones
3/5
Decent but will not revisit.
Anita Baker

The bandname and album title made me think this was gonna be a punkalbum. Too bad. Can't complain about the title track. That's a gripping song. However the rest reminds me of elevator music and soundtracks to terrible 80's sitcoms
The Stone Roses
4/5
Quite like it. Especialy the instrumentation. Can't quite put it to words.
Pere Ubu
4/5

Herbie Hancock
4/5
Not something I'll revisit, but fun record
The Soft Boys
3/5
Lupe Fiasco
5/5
Great surprise! I like my hiphop/rap more raw but this is one exception although lyrically he holds no punches. Also makes me overlook a pet peeve of mine: using a classic oldie as a hook for a song. Am going to spin this more!
R.E.M.
4/5
Has some of their classics, rest of the album is great too
Amy Winehouse
5/5
She was a once in a lifetime artist. At times bleak, painfully honest and so warm. Pity, addiction does keep us from wonderfull things
ZZ Top

The Afghan Whigs
3/5
This is a tense sound, doesn't necessarily pay of all the time though.
The Yardbirds
3/5

3/5
Mylo
4/5
Surprising for an EDM album to grab me, but this is good, clean fun. It's not rocket science and it doesn't claim to be. Pretty varied approach too. Far from the normal stuff I listen to.
Pentangle
1/5
What a slog to get through. Vocals are very dull, and musically nothing to look out for. *Comic book guy voice* worst renaissance fair ever!
The Monkees
3/5
I thought it was mighty average.
Moby Grape
3/5
Kind of middle of the road for me, suis desolé
Hot Chip
3/5
This was happy, cheerful. Good for them
Culture Club
2/5
High expectations, did not deliver. Except for some singles and an ocasional track, this album is mainly ballads and midtempo. Gets tedious pretty quick.
Stevie Wonder
3/5
Not my favourite album of his. But it's stll Stevie Wonder so it's great.
Christina Aguilera
3/5
Beck
3/5
Emotional, gripping.
The Prodigy
3/5
I reckon this is a (sub) genre classic, and as such I'm having trouble to rate it. Lord knows I have a niche I can talk someone's ear off about. But about this dance album? Influential? Probably. Good in it's genre? Probably? Foundation for a legendary group? Sure. The thing is, if I had any stake in the genre I could tell you it's worth. The album after this ( the fat of the land) claims more territory and is more worth it imo.
Miles Davis
4/5
Highly enjoyable, but not necessarily something I would revisit
10cc
3/5
Knew walstreet shuffle. Rest is good too.
Sparks
4/5
An eccentric take on pop. Good times
Merle Haggard
3/5
Musically good, but damn the man is an american tool. Must be a psy op.
George Jones
2/5
Two of these arent tearjerkers. This was boring
Public Image Ltd.
5/5
Johnny has 2 legendary albums? Good for him.
Billy Bragg
4/5
Wholesome. And yes there is power in a union.
Khaled
4/5
Khaled uses alot of influences but yet his voice is an anchorpoint to this. Although his vocal approach isn't standard to regular western music I vibed with this. The length however is something else, I had to cut it in three
Echo And The Bunnymen
4/5
Dark and brooding, yet soothing
The Go-Betweens
3/5
The Incredible String Band
1/5
I rarely give a 1. Searching for something to up that score, I usually land on musical ability or lyricism. For the Hangman's beautiful daughter I can't do that. Honestly, I thought some players held their instruments for the first time on this recording. As for lyricism, I can't see the poetry in this. Feels like it's for a 70's-80's children's program. No surprise but I had flashbacks to Pentangle's Basket Of Light which also received a negative score from me.
The Rolling Stones
3/5
The Verve
4/5
Didn't expect to know so many songs allready. This album is great, however at the end it loses somebof it's momentum.
Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band
2/5
This could have been a 4 minute song
Maxwell
2/5
Emerson, Lake & Palmer
1/5
I just listened to 3 guys masturbating for 38 minutes
Hole
4/5
To me, live through this packed more of a punch, which i liked more. Nevertheless still a great album.
Black Flag
5/5
This is probably one of the most influental albums out there. Voice of the youth in those days. And there is nothing more important than that.
Ramones
5/5
Just yesterday I've got Black Flag's Damaged and called it one of the most important albums on this list. Then today the list throws me this one ("you sure about that?"). 3 minutes of fun with 4 chords and easy lyrics. You can't even count how many kids picked up an instrument because of this. It's pop from a punk perspective.
Ryan Adams
3/5
Queen
3/5
Japan
4/5
Heaven 17
3/5
A bit dated in sound but not in message
Black Sabbath
5/5
The most important album ever! Their best? No. But every album in my collection is a descendant of this one. The world would look different without this!
The Jesus And Mary Chain
4/5
Pretty good and eerie sounding
The Byrds
3/5
Prefab Sprout
4/5
Lovely surprise. Didn't expect to know something from this band but was familiar with atleast 3 songs
The Flaming Lips
5/5
This is perfection. Kick some butt, Yoshimi!
CHVRCHES
4/5
Good electrowhatever
Beastie Boys
4/5
I love Beastie Boys. This isn't my favourite but very decent
Nightmares On Wax
3/5
Chillout but one of the 1001's? Why?
Deee-Lite
4/5
Positive retro dance from the early nineties? Bitchin'!
Franz Ferdinand
3/5
The Black Keys
3/5
It's fine, I guess. Doesn't grip me.
The Verve
2/5
Loved the other album but this one... kinda boring
Devendra Banhart
3/5
Esoteric
Jefferson Airplane
3/5
I know the singles, love em but the rest is kinda hit and miss at times
LTJ Bukem
3/5
Wire
4/5
A smorgasbord of punk and punkadjacent music, which feels very modern for a 70's record.
Dolly Parton
2/5
The xx
5/5
The XX brings the ideal version of pop for the modern age. Heartfelt, passionate and musically inovative.
The Sabres Of Paradise
5/5
Atleast it's not boring. You guys suck off the most bland 70's band but put this in the ground. A 5, out of spite.
System Of A Down
4/5
I've got an up and down relationship with SOAD. It interests me and puts me of sometimes too, but it's highly entertaining. Put Serj Tankian in any other band and it would grate me to no end but the fourpiece musically just clicks well together.
The Slits
4/5
Not gonna lie, won't revisit. But interesting
The Velvet Underground
4/5
Not as good or legendary as the debut but grezt nonetheles
Pantera
5/5
I have a habit of giving 5's to every album that I already own. Not very subjective I know, but in the early days of me being on this generator it helped with the 'pressure' of rating an album everyday. Plus you're familiar with the album so it kinda makes sense.
In all honesty, I want to give yhis a four. I'm familiar with it. But it doesn't reach the levels of Cowboys from Hell. They found the sound they wanted and never gave any other stylistic change a chance. Phill's voice was getting rougher and gone were the more high vocals he sporadically did. They had their groove and dumbguy hardcor vibe and while I have nothing against that, there could have been more to this band.
If you're looking for great groove metal you could easily go for Cowboys From Hell or Machine Head's Burn My Eyes or Chaos AD by Sepultura or anything by Rob Zombie. They stick the landing more imo. Still giving this a 5, cause a man who doesn't stick to his guns ain't worth a damn.
Frank Sinatra
5/5
Perfection, almost tops in the wee small hours.
M.I.A.
2/5
M.I.A. sounds so bored when she sings. The strength on this is boyse and paper planes but for the rest it's a bit grating
Queen
2/5
If there's one thing the list showed me it's that I'm not a queenfan except for the hits.
Bee Gees
3/5
Super Furry Animals
4/5
This one's different. Like indiepop meets wild experimentation. I can only applaud cause this should be what every musician wants to make. My own subjectiveness says that the popside doesn't speak to me a whole lot but other than that, superb.
SAULT
3/5
The Libertines
5/5
Despite all the drama around this band, they did produce an album which shines with good songwriting. Definitely it had that british no-good (chav) misfit vibe.
Dr. Octagon
4/5
His methods may be unorthodox, but dammit, the doctor get's the job done!
Tom Waits
5/5
Emperor of weird and he does it the best.
The Beach Boys
3/5
Manu Chao
5/5
Manu Chao is king!... of the bongo.
The Icarus Line
3/5
Great for them, but I can see similiar band every other weekend. This to say I don't really get their inclusion? If they paved a giant way for others, I'll ofcourse take it back but for now... good not great.

Armed with a flow to make other rappers cringe, lyrics that are an embarrassment to the first sentence ever put to paper and a persona tottaly pulled out of his ass, kid rock managed to put together an album that's equally overproduced as underproduced, and manages to stand out as the absolute garbage in an era plagued with cringy Nu Metalbands, overtly clean Pop starlets and tryhard fake gangsta rappers.
Scott Walker
4/5
Sonic Youth
2/5
Sonic Youth, it never gels with me. This is loose sand wrapped in a hipsters mitten.

Butthole Surfers

The difference witth oither noiderockbands? They're not fun and Butthole Surfers are.
The Replacements
4/5
Raekwon
4/5
Great album. Wu Tang has it's own style and it definitely shines on this one.
Lenny Kravitz
2/5
You're running the risk of being labelled an asshole if you don't like this preachy album. Guess I'm an asshole. The Gospel, funk and poprock mix is not to my liking. He has a good heart and blabla but yeah a 2.
Britney Spears
4/5
I usually grant a 3 if it's decent but not to my liking, cleverly played but not my genre or a window into a certain time. Well, this is a time that I grew up in, but since I wasn't an impressionable girl and to young to be feeling pubescent longings over her videoclips, I was merely an outsider looking in. Thus this sugary teehee pop kinda gives me the proverbial ick. That being said nobody can deny she was surounded by competent songwriters and that she could cary a tune! Some songs shine cause they are incredibly catchy (...baby one more time; crazy; sometimes; Born to make you happy) other by being outdated(E-mail my heart; Soda pop). Weirdly I kinda enjoyed this. But don't tell 10 year old me..
Lloyd Cole And The Commotions
3/5
Van Halen
4/5
Definition of cocky. It works for them.
Earth, Wind & Fire
4/5
WARNING!!! Spontaneously grew an afro.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
5/5
An overwhelmingly emotional album.
The Human League
4/5
Great 80's pop. 'Nuff said.
Coldplay
3/5
I wanted to knock this entirely but it's quite good in songwriting. A bit whiney still
Thundercat
3/5
Soul in the modern age. Not my bag but manages to sway me at moments.
Goldie
3/5
I listened to the cd/casette version because the other version is hella long. I'm not a connaiseur of drum 'n bass but I think this less frenetic sound is the origin of the genre(?). I kinda liked it but even the shorter version of this album is an hour which makes it a long sitdown for something not exactly in your comfortzone
Dexys Midnight Runners
3/5
AC/DC
5/5
If you need to give this a second listen to rate this, you don't get it at all.
Simon & Garfunkel
4/5
In true troubadour style, alot has aged in a cheesy way. Still enjoyed it though
The Isley Brothers
3/5
Foo Fighters
3/5
I support this band being in the list, but this album... I think The Colour And The Shape; There Is Nothing Left To Lose or One By One lay more claim to these titles imo. Not to say this is a bad album but it doesn't capture the spirit of what was to come.
Fleet Foxes
3/5
A sunny sundaymorning with a cup of coffee , this album and a good book...

5/5
This is great in a certain setting. Wouldn't use it in a gym. But for meditation, relaxing baths or lovemaking, this is ideal. Unfortunately the wife prefers brutal death metal as a companion to our carnal work out so I had to settle for a relaxing bath. Still more than satisfied!
Bob Dylan
4/5
Soft Cell
4/5
Ice Cube
5/5
Ice Cube was a force to be reckoned with indeed.
Bob Dylan
2/5
This was a long and boring album. All of these songs could be trimmed of their fat. Last song is 16 minutes without ever changing anything.
Les Rythmes Digitales
4/5
A fun ride, felt current enough, even though I'm not well versed in the genre. Knew 3 or 4 songs allready. That could mean I heard them in a commercial or they were played on the radio. Considering France is a neighbour could be we had some fallout. Don't overanalyze this one and just have fun.
Massive Attack
3/5
Enjoyed the hits, but the rest don't stick that much.
Ms. Dynamite
2/5
Don't see the use of this. Nothing felt particulary original. Expected a littlf more bounce considering the cover gives a bit of that vibe.
5/5
Elastica
4/5
Beastie Boys
5/5
Dinosaur Jr.
3/5
Didn't really hit me in the way I thought it would.
The Dictators
4/5
Banger!
Jungle Brothers
3/5
Wasn't super enamored by this. A bit cheesy and dated. Well performed though.
Circle Jerks
5/5
I've been looking forward to this one. Short sharp shock! Amazing youthful energy!
The Clash
2/5
Colour me surprised that this is as much Reggae as early punk. I don't like Reggae...
Elliott Smith
2/5
Method Man
4/5
That boom bap holds a place in my heart. Method isn't my favourite Wu Tang Rapper, it's often like he still has some food in his mouth. But looking at todays rap, it's not that bad.
Marianne Faithfull
4/5
Nice surprise! Warm vocals
R.E.M.
5/5
My 4th R.E.M. album and probably my favourite. Upbeat at times, melancolic at others but with Stipe in his most Stipe-iest
Public Image Ltd.
4/5
The other one was more my favourite, this however is also good.
Talvin Singh
2/5
Unfortunately the two worlds that are colliding on this, I haven't got an interest in. Didn't enjoy this really.
UB40
3/5
I didn't mind this at first but it's alot of the same as time moves on.
Paul McCartney and Wings
4/5
Phenomenal first half. Comes and goes in the second.
The Birthday Party
3/5
Experimental post punk. For the kids...
Jamiroquai
3/5
I like his voice and the music is really excellent but it's too uninteresting to me to hold my focus for an hour .
Magazine
4/5
Nice mix of punk and new wave
Alice In Chains
5/5
At age 12 I was a huge fan of Nirvana. Circa 2007 I got wind of Alice In Chains. If I knew them 5 years before that they would have probably been my obsession instead of their counterparts. This has a nice heavy feel to it overall, even the slower songs. The one grunge band that leaned very close to metal, considering they opened the 1991 Clash of the titans tour with Anthrax, Slayer and Megadeth. I own a best off of AIC and I think only one song of Dirt isn't on that. Banger!
Bruce Springsteen
3/5
Pretty mid for Bruce
Giant Sand
3/5
Works well in a certain conditions. Just at home didn't do it for me. Riding my bike in the sun with this in my ears helped me appreciate it more.
Cyndi Lauper
4/5
This is good in a '80s cheesy pop way.
Motörhead
5/5
One of the best live albums ever! Pure Rock 'n Roll!
Tina Turner
4/5
While disco ain't my bag, this ain't too shabby
Saint Etienne
4/5
Nice relaxing ambient jazzy stuff
Gil Scott-Heron
2/5
Arcade Fire
2/5
Probably a big album for my millenial peers, but this was quite a boring listen for me.
Supergrass

Fun little album
Ray Charles

3/5
Not much to say about this
Billy Joel
4/5
Kings of Leon

Paul Simon
3/5
The Zutons
3/5
I usually sigh when all these americans critisize all the english band, when there's too much american crap on this list. This however is an english release that has no urgency, and has very little right to be on the list. I don't see any influence on future bands or releases. It's just decent rock.
Brian Wilson
3/5
I understand the timing of receiving this album. He was a fine musician but how is this one of the must listens of the year 2004? Must be something I'm missing. Album is fine but that's about it.
Stan Getz
5/5
This album made me fall in love with Bossa Nova. Marvelous and beautiful.
Janelle Monáe
3/5
I liked it, but it suffers a bit by the length of the album
Malcolm McLaren
3/5
Michael Jackson
5/5
Probably the quintessential pop album.
Calexico
4/5
Nice surprise.
The Chemical Brothers
4/5
Well, that was a fun party!
The White Stripes
3/5
Good, but this is like the 3rd white stripes album I'm getting. Just pick one I guess.
The Strokes
2/5
Pretty boring in my opinion.
Linkin Park
5/5
I'm biased on this. This was one of the first albums I bought. Got me into metal even though now I realise the connection is flimsy. Chester has an amazing melodic and understandable scream, the raps are energetic. While it's a very overproduced album, the nostalgia makes me forget. This is not an objective review...
Brian Eno
3/5
Astor Piazzolla
4/5
Great mood
Simon & Garfunkel
4/5
Morrissey
4/5
I like his music alot. Bit of a stuck up prick for the rest
Pixies
3/5
I had a few pixies albums on this list, I believe and none of them quite resonated with me. This one is the best out of them. Or am I confusing them with Sonic Youth again?
Led Zeppelin
3/5
More bluesy than protometal, this one.
Ozomatli
3/5
Had a hard time piecing this together on youtube. I still couldn't gind a track. Perfectvfor sunny weather this one
Orbital
3/5
Christina Aguilera
3/5
Difference between the Christina on this album and the one on Stripped is probably 400 dollars extra.
Korn
4/5
A few fillers on this one but otherwise great fun and Fieldy's bass doesn't bother me as much on this album.
PJ Harvey
3/5
Did nothing for me , bit I appreciate she has her own thing.
Kings of Leon
3/5
3rd Kings Of Leon album. Not very different from the rest...
The Psychedelic Furs
3/5
Shivkumar Sharma
3/5
So it supposed to represent a day as a herder, and it clearly catches that. This is more background music for me but pleasant enough
Ravi Shankar
4/5
I'm all for non western music in this list. I had call ofvthe valley just yesterday and the day after I get sounds of India which walks a same rope, and my dumb ass had to listen back to back cus I didn't make time yesterday. This was a bit much truth be told but ultimately a pleasure to listen to.
Bebel Gilberto
4/5
That portuguese language, that dometimes husky voice, ... I'm in love...
Digital Underground
2/5
This was corny. Did not really like it.
Sheryl Crow
2/5
Except for the famous single, i thought this was a nothingburger of an album
The Cure
3/5
The Pogues
5/5
The energy on this is through the roof. I don't see anything comparing to this.
Can
3/5
For Can, it's an easy listening album. I miss the weirdness though
Fleetwood Mac
4/5
Okay do it's not Rumours. Other than that great.
David Holmes
4/5
Very varied, not just 'clubby' just a tad too long. Did love it.
Queen Latifah
4/5
Slay, Queen!
David Bowie
4/5
No notes
Arctic Monkeys
5/5
I hate when the media called something rock'n roll, but for this it was right on the money. 100% energy, variation on point, great songwriting. This gets me pumping.
Brian Eno
3/5
Sepultura
5/5
Nothing better than getting your album, being able to get it out of the closet andputting the needle to the record. As I own this, I'm more than familiar with it. Which makes me unable to be objective. I could say that it's way too long,Ross Robinson overproduces, it's quite a departure from previous albums and Max Cavalera isn't exactly Yeats or Neruda. But I've lost my heart to Roots a while ago, and that will probably never change. Both Sepultura and Soulfly tried to carry on with this formula but ended up with better albums ditching those inspirations.
Talking Heads
3/5
Moby
5/5
Absolute banger!
Talking Heads
3/5
2 talking heads albums in 3 days, and they are decent but honestly not the band for me
Napalm Death
5/5
I get why this has a generally low score. You prefer the 'medical' grindcore of CARCASS or the horror influence that REPULSION had... but just because NAPALM DEATH is political you don't have to write them off. This album is the epitome of youth or atleast what it should be. Relentless, non conformist, concerned and angry about the world's problems, loud and abrassive. Very much as punk as they are metal. Nothing gave me as much joy as having a reason to pluck this one out of my collection and trying to keep up with the lyrics.
Billy Bragg
4/5
Gooed meandering background music, has an occasional uptake in tempo and atmosphere
Iron Butterfly
4/5
Very jammy, did enjoy but probably not for everyone
Ali Farka Touré
3/5
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
5/5
Not the most popular Nick Cave record but probably my favourite. It pulls you in with openingtrack Papa won't leave you Henry and we're of to the races. N.C. shines in a sort of descriptor of events. Great!
Bob Marley & The Wailers
2/5
You know what? I hate Reggae. It's pretty irrational but it gets on my nerves. Its way too slow and it grinds my gears.
Sepultura
5/5
This is Sepultura at their best. Thrash, a little industrial at times, political and with a kickass production! Come to think about it, this is probably metal at it's best too.
Kate Bush
4/5
Nice ethereal music. Not always in the mood for this but when I do...
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
3/5
This generator did not awaken a Neil Young fan inside me.
The Beach Boys
3/5
Paul Weller
3/5
Stan Getz
5/5
This brought out the romantic in me
Nick Drake
4/5
The Clash
4/5
You know what? I like this better than London Calling.
Chicago
3/5
The Associates
3/5
Small Faces
2/5
Red Hot Chili Peppers
2/5
I don't quite get the hate for RHCP, although I got no love for them either. I guess i understand when people liked their youthfull, filled with spunk, attitude, how cheesy and grating it might be. But a 'mature' version of the Peppers feels sterile and dare I say boring.
Peter Tosh
3/5
As a non-enjoyer of Reggea this was quite good. Variation, good song writing. Not just drifting on the music.
Public Enemy
4/5
Grimy, dirty and socially conscious, love it.
Radiohead
4/5
Buzzcocks
4/5
First wave punkrock. Lands good at this airport.
Dexys Midnight Runners
3/5
Fun!
The Sonics
4/5
John Prine
2/5
Didn't grip me, nor quite entertained me
Mercury Rev
3/5
Mott The Hoople
2/5
Tom Waits
3/5
Eurythmics
5/5
With a distinct sound, and yet such variety in songs, this really captured my heart.
Paul Simon
5/5
The Smiths
4/5
The Offspring
4/5
Personally would have gone for Americana but this one is nice Esther way
SZA
4/5
Yeah, i liked this!
Iggy Pop
3/5
Classic, sure, but a lot less biting than I expected.
The La's
3/5
Decent, some standouts.
The Teardrop Explodes
4/5
I'm very intrigued by this album. Never heard it mentioned. Never heard a song of it before. Yet this is smart, fun and energetic. I don't know if it's true but it feels like they we're enjoying recording this.
The Cult
4/5
Rock and/or roll!
Slade
4/5
Brian Eno
4/5
This should be annoying, dull even, right? Yet, it's more that it soothes and caresses something inside you. This works for a particular few, and I guess I'm among them.
Love
5/5
I'v got a week of 4's which is very good. This one's making me lean more towards 5. Beautiful voice, great instrumentation and the songwriting is superb.
New York Dolls
5/5
As much glam as they are punk. It's a fun twist that still hits hard, albeit with a silk glove.
Van Morrison
3/5
Drive-By Truckers
4/5
Duality of the southern thing!
Antony and the Johnsons
5/5
Very emotive with an unique vocal approach and overall sober in its instrumentation, yet daling at the same time.
Dion
2/5
Not for me. Bit boring.
The Byrds
3/5
Very beatles-esque. Not like other albums of theirs. I enjoyed it enough.
The KLF
4/5
This record is so nineties it has a tamagotchi, does xtc, and asks you were the beef is.
Skunk Anansie
4/5
Know the hits(although it could be that some of those are also Skin's solo work), but never followed this band's output. I really enjoy this album. Skin's voice is great, musically they can hits hard if they want, but they also have almost ballads. Very diverse and highly enjoyable.
My Bloody Valentine
3/5
I can't seem to get into this band. It's enjoyable but it slipstream through my fingers.
Talk Talk
2/5
They definitely have a style all of their own, but to me it's quite samen, and dragging on.
Coldcut
3/5
A bit long but mostly enjoyable. Dancy housey hiphoplike samplemania over here.
Deep Purple
5/5
I own this one, comes with three cd's. Doubt this is the standard version but I enjoy this 'till the last Drop. This only could have been recorder in the 70's. Bands played big!
Buena Vista Social Club
3/5
My life is a lie. apparently the version of chan chan that I remember is a remix. Which explains why I thought this would have more pep in it's step. Not bad by any margin, but different than my expectations.
The The
3/5
The Temptations
3/5
Peter Gabriel
4/5
Thought this would be boring... it was not
Fugees
5/5
Classic! First time hearing it, but it's status is well deserved.
I have no way to prove this, but I hear the joy of creating and playing music in this album. Could be the recording was tumultious and toxic, but I couldn't believe that. This one was a pleasant listening experience. Also, Rod Stewart has that cocky big d*ck swinging energy that few come close to.
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
3/5
The Auteurs
3/5
Scott Walker
4/5
Frankly, I don't remember the other album(s?) of Scott Walker that are on this list. This one is excellent however. Standouts to me are opener The Seventh Seal and The Old Man's Back.
The Mamas & The Papas
3/5
Great combination of vocals and a grezt representation of the flower power era.
Tom Waits
5/5
Let Tom Waits take you on this weird, emotional and beautiful adventure. You'll laugh, cry and gasp.
Penguin Cafe Orchestra
5/5
This one is relaxing and soothing. It Takes you on this trip.
Green Day
4/5
Having heard a big chunk of this, I've grown quite tired of it. But since I use to appreciate this, I figured i'll bump this a point higher .
Dire Straits
3/5
I had high hopes for this classic but after the explosive first three songs this implodes a bit until the closing track. Shame.
Super Furry Animals
3/5
George Michael
3/5
Songhoy Blues
4/5
I guess their exile, my gain.
The Specials
4/5
Spanning. Was craving this.
Simply Red
4/5
Damn good!
Justice
4/5
Like what they did with this. Dont know anything about edm though.
Serge Gainsbourg
4/5
No one makes me quite as horny as the Serge.
Dire Straits
4/5
Loved this more than Brothers in Arms. Has more pep in it's step.
Hookworms
3/5
Comes in with a blast but gets a bit generic over time.
Bob Dylan
3/5
Some good songs on this, but after a while, it bores me.
Pink Floyd
5/5
Superb album! Love the twists and turns it takes
The Youngbloods
4/5
This flows like water. Jazzy, rocky, poppy. Yet this stays organic.
The Adverts
5/5
It's always Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Damned, but classics like this get overlooked. This album is laced with bangers. I did however tag the song 'Looking Through Gary Gilmore's Eyes' after, cause that is on my opinion their best song and it's not even on this album
Dr. John
4/5
Got psychedelics?
Lauryn Hill
2/5
The true last classic this list is gonna give me. By that I mean one that's always in the conversation when talking about classic albums. And this hits nowhere for me. Too R 'n B/soul for me and too little what I loved about the Fugees.
Cocteau Twins
2/5
Christine and the Queens
3/5
Beautiful voice, but doesn't quite get me going otherwise.
The Young Gods
4/5
Welp, guess this was the last one. It's dark, crazy and adventurous. Industrial meets symphonic meets avant garde. One thing it's not is cohesive. Which makes it feel like a random collection of songs instead of an album. Enjoyed it though.
