The Golden River is an indie rock album by Canadian band Frog Eyes. A place to listen to it was hard to find (not on Spotify or Apple Music in The Netherlands). I don't regret the effort as it's a nice record. The songs are over the top and the performance somewhat strange, but that works as the compositions are great. "Time Reveals Its Plan at Poisoned Falls" and "World's Greatest Concertos" are highlights on this original sounding album.

One of those left-field finds that’s always a joy to discover from the user list. Sounds like an off-the-chain Neutral Milk Hotel was fronted by a rabid Guided By Voices, just a messy, chaotic, freewheeling LP with such an organic sense of artistry tying it all together. Does start to run a little long near the end, but still an overall great listen. Thanks for adding an offbeat LP I never would have discovered on my own!

1 star for the psychotic and erratic singing style but 5 stars for the great music and arrangements.

Weird and wonderful

Idk man this cover is an actual piece of shit

Parts of this I really liked. A bit Bowie-like at times, but at other times it got on my nerves. Having to listen on YouTube sucked also. 3 stars.

Rating: 6/10 Best songs: Time reveals its plan at poisoned falls

Leaning on its quirk pretty heavily. Reminiscent for me of Beefheart, Tom Waits, Lou Barlow's more experimental offerings. This is not quite up to those luminaries. I didn't hate it but the schtick wore on me at its very considerable length.

Not bad

Very odd album. Didn’t always work for me but it was interesting throughout.

This sounds like drowning in wet cement.

Occasional flashes of brilliance, but mostly irritating as hell.

This album wasn’t worth the effort

Couldn't find on Apple Music auto-1 I'm sorry rules are rules

2nd day on the trot I've gotten a recommendation from 2003 - the absolute worst year for music. Only this one I've not seen, heard or have ever been aware of. The cover art is dismal. An acorn? That's also a head? That looks like it was painted by a sweaty sixth-former at a regional college? Yeah, I guess. Unfortunately, listening to this album is an ABSOLUTE CHORE. I was incredibly pleased to hear the track "(Intermission)" - which is just 31 seconds of silence, and by far and away the best track on the album. I do encourage you to read up on the release history, because streaming services seem to present the 2006 re-release, which includes a WHOLE OTHER ALBUM of equally interminable tracks. This gave me the excuse I needed to switch it off, because honestly, while the reviews of this talk about the lyrical splendour of the album, I found it almost impossible to discern what he was actually gibbering on about. Honestly, I don't know if this was put in as a troll suggestion or if the submitter actually does enjoy it, but it's clearly an acquired taste that I have no intention of acquiring.
