I'll be honest, I find Clapton's solo stuff massively overrated, but I often like him when he's constrained by a band around him, so curious to see how this lands. The first song is actually alright. And Bell Bottom Blues is good too. I'm gonna credit Duane Allman. Kind of gets a bit boring for a while after that....Yeah, okay this has fallen off into the worst of Clapton-y endless blues noodling. Even the version of Little Wing, a usually amazing song, isn't totally doing it for me. Okay, but Layla is a banger, no denying Kinda digging One More Chance
Well, this is a 5 without having to listen or anything
Dunno if I should give this a 4 or a 5... On the one hand maybe not quite strong enough for a 5, but on the other, the stuff that's good is so good ...
I like the samples in the intro track: Superfly, Rapper's Delight--good stuff Things Done Changed -- I like it, good beat, like the anti-nostalgia lyrics Gimme the Loot - not as good, either musically or lyrically Machine Gun Funk - Like this one again, though the "Ike beat Tina" line is a bit yikes Warning - Ready to Die - this is a good one; great start and just keeps on going One More Chance - also like this Fuck Me-- k this one is a bit ridiculous The What -- forgettable Juicy -- obviously a classic Big Poppa -- nother classic Respect - pretty different, but kinda cool Suicide - Dark song, and pretty sad given where the story ends but hard to disentangle it from what actually happens ("I swear to god it feels like death is calling me") Album ends a bit lacklustre compared to the best songs, but I liked this a lot. Good stuff.
Not gonna lie, I know this album reasonably well from my teenage years, so hard to disentangle it from nostalgia for me; but Box of Rain, Friend of the Devil, Sugar Magnolia, Ripple, are all great songs and definitely enjoy the vibes of this.
I like the Smiths in general, despite Morrissey being a piece of shit, so expecting to like this. Headmaster Ritual -- classic Smiths, a bit formulaic if you've heard their other stuff but I like it Rusholme Ruffians -- a little different; kinda dig it I wnt the one I can't have -- again, pretty classic Smiths, a bit too familiar What she said -- same as above; feel like this is minor, derivative Smiths for the most part Nowhere Fast -- another kind of more fun upbeat one Well I Wonder -- also a little more interesting than the others Barbarism Begins at Home -- like this one a bit more too Meat is Murder -- decent song, and pretty intense lyrics
Turns out I know this album less well than I thought; only a few songs are actually all that familiar. But definitely liking it a lot. Even the weird pseudo-reggae of Redondo Beach worked for me, somewhat unexpectedly (what was it about 80s new wave and strange reggae?!) Birdland a bit tedious, I guess. Free Money is great though. Break it Up too. And Horses is obviously amazing. Like Elegie too.
I like Fela Kuti--the songs kind of all sound the same, but they're pretty fun, good vibes, so pretty happy to have this going in the background. And Egbe Mi O rocks. I'm writing less today because I wrote a whole bunch for yesterday's album and it didn't seem to save, so I'm mad
I think I basically only know Paper Planes from this, so excited to hear the rest. Basically, the songs all kinda sound the same, but I like their energy. I kinda feel like Paper Planes is like, the perfect emblem of this album, but you don't need to listen to the whole album--but it's still kinda fun to listen to. Like the Pixies reference in 20 Dolla. Like the last song a lot.
Awwww yiss. I fucking love this album, but I am happy to rediscover that fact.
Man, this is a blast from the past. It turns out I actually don't know most of this album, but based on the few I do, I'm pretty hyped. The first few songs are actually a bit of a letdown; Soma is starting to be more like what I was hoping for. Barely Legal also enjoyable, though a bit same-y. Someday fucking rules. Enjoying Alone, Together too, though again maybe a bit running together with the other songs. Last Nite another classic; still great. But Hard to Explain is kind of back to that same-y sound. NYC Cops is good again Trying Your Luck is alright too Take it or Leave it back to the kind of alright, but sort of overdone sound of some of the rest of the album Basically I'm conflicted: when it's good, it's great, and there's nothing that's a real dud; but other than four of five clear winners, the rest sort of sound alike; not bad, but just...alike. I feel justified in only really remembering Someday, Last Nite, etc.
I basically only know Fast Car, but given that it's the best song ever, stoked for this... And so for, so good: Talking About a Revolution and Fast Car are amazing. Across the Lines -- still batting 1.000, this is a great song Behind the Wall -- Tracy Chapman, can you miss, even just once?! Baby Can I Hold You -- the first one that isn't totally great; this one feels a little more generically '80s Mountains O'Things -- kind of a weird one; also an 80s vibe that I shouldn't like, but it actually kind of works for me. She's Got Her Ticket --Also like this one, moreso the longer I listen. Tracy Chapman, you've done it again! Why? -- A weaker one again; but still not too bad For My Lover -- Back on top again. If Not Now , For You -- ok, fell off again a little. Man, I love her voice--and despite some of the excessive 80s-ness, it's a bunch of soulful, heartfelt songs that use hte voice well. Great stuff.
Not even gonna lower myself to a song-by-song ranking. This is an all-time great, easy 5-star album. I will only say that the standout song on a standout album is A Day in the Life.
I'm enjoying this, in a sort of easy-listening way. I like the songs, I think; for example Still Thrives This Love (the current one) is nice and dark...but it doesn't sound super distinctive. Feel like lots of stuff basically scratches this itch; it's nice, and well done, though. Digging Season of Hollow Soul
Not the biggest country fan in the world, but I'm enjoying this so far. The title track was really good. Afterwards, it's a bit standard country in a somewhat forgettable way, but it's decent. I like his voice and it's definitely at least good country music.
Bebop is pretty polarizing, so expecting this to be divisive. Really digging the title track. As with all jazz, a little too easy to lose track for a bit, especially during the longer tracks, but this is the kind of jazz I like best, for the most part, so I think I'm pretty happy with this. Track two is pretty good, lots of cool twists and turns despite being on the long side. Yeah, I enjoyed this, on the whole.
Forgot to listen yesterday so no big review, but I loved this album
Not sure this is going to be my type of music based on the first song, but Bonnie Raitt has a pretty good rep in guitar circles, so hopefully there'll be something for me later. Thing Called Love I think I actually know! It's alright I guess; getting some guitar here, though not sure it's enough to overcome my reservations about genre. Love Letter same as above; this one is a bit more bluesy, and guitary, so it's okay, but fundamentally this is just isn't my type of music. Not sure it's worth going track by track when it's the same thing each time; the bluesier songs are okay but still not quite my deal, and others just aren't my style. Nobody's Girl is alright. The last song also is decent.
Doing some quick catch up. Liking this so far. Also a bit not what I expected from Morrisey; not as mopey as I might have guessed. Nothing super special, I guess, but I'll round up.
I like CCR, and this is a very CCR album. The downside is, the songs all kind of sound a little the same. Green River, Tombstone Shadow, Bad Moon Rising, Lodi all kick ass -- others are more unmemorable, but still decent.
Oh man, a wave of nostalgia here. I don't actually know much off this specific album but I loved BDB back in the day. Excited for this. Shining -- I loved this song, and it seems I still do Everybody's Stalking -- Cool psychedelic mystery vibes Bewilder -- Fall in a River -- A weaker one Camping Next to Water -- Liking this one again Stone on the Water -- One I liked back in the day, and still do Another Pearl -- Not a highlight, but alright Body Rap -- This is...not a good song Once Around the Block -- This one's better at least This Song -- Not in love with this one Bewilderbeast -- A pleasant song, though a bit bland...nice though Magic in the Air -- another meh song Cause a Rockslide -- Liking this one more though except this ending Pissing in the Wind -- decent one Blistered Heart -- pleasant Disillusion -- Kind of diffrernt, in a good way Say it Again -- Like this one too, a bit Beatles-y Epitaph -- Basically, not as good as I'd hoped; too much filler. But you can hear the seeds of what made some of his other stuff so good; and the Shining just absolutely kills
Cool to get some music theory in here. The music is really cool, and it's neat to hear someone explaining what's going on.
This is pleasant, but it's like...movie soundtrack music. Still, I enjoyed it, even if it's pretty unmemorable.
This turns out to be a really good album. Obviously some classics like War Pigs, Paranoid, Iron Man; but even ones I don't know like Electric Funeral and Jack the Stripper (dumb name) are pretty rad.
Well, once again my notes disappeared. I liked some of the famous songs, but otherwise was a bit disappointed...other than the big hits, I thought the rest of the album didn't do much to stand out.
Liking the first song.... Yeah, definitely pretty good through the first few This one was a nice surprise; nothing mind-blowing but I really enjoyed it and had no expectations going in...hurray!
Nick Green would be happy.... Liking it so far. Firth of Forth is great. Also More Fool Me. Yeah, ok, I loved this. Genesis is one of those bands I'm always surprised to discover I love, but....this ruled.
I like the first song; cool Stevie Wonder vibe. This continues to sound a bit like knockoff Stevie Wonder...but in a good way. Okay, the didgeridoo at the end is a bit much, but on the whole: solid Stevie Wonder cover band!
At its best, this is an album of kind of interesting videogame final-boss music. At its worst, this sounds like the music Jez makes in Peep Show. Just an idiot with a synth, pressing the buttons at whim. I did not love this.
Starts with a bang. After that, not really his best stuff, but still pretty solid. I enjoyed it, but wasn't as blown away as I might have expected
Yeah, this isn't really my kind of thing, but it's okay, I guess. Some nostalgia value for Well Be In, for example. Blinded by the Lights is the main one I remember, and it holds pretty well, I guess. But yeah, this kind of slow, regular talking style of rap isn't my deal for the most part. Oh, Dry Your Eyes is good too. I'm glad he found his thousand quid at the end, even if this didn't totally do it for me.
I'll be honest, not really my type of music. I find it a bit boring and repetetive. It's not bad or anything, fine to have in the background, but nothing really going on here.
I've never actually listened to Fiona Apple, but she has a pretty good reputation, so let's check it out..... Cool first song, not totally my style but I see the appeal. Same with second song; not exactly my type of music, but it's catchy and musical and I like it in spite of my usual leanings. Under the Table is also fairly in my wheelhouse, so really liking it. Bit of a lull, but liking Newspaper a lot. Ladies too Gonna say I liked this. Not every song totally did it for me, but all interesting, all basically good, I enjoyed this!
Some nice easy-listening jazz. Title track is really nice. Also like Three to Get Ready
Dire Straits is one of those bands that just does it for me, so I anticipate good things here. And...we're off to go a good start. Second song a bit weaker--in fact, a bit a run of blander songs; not bad, necessarily, but not with the usual appeal of Dire Straits at their best. Southbound Again starts to rock again. And obviously Sultans of Swing is just great. In the Gallery is okay. On the whole, this was a a bit weaker than my expectations, but with a few bangers, and nothing really bad.
It's not got the big hits of Zep II or IV, but this is really good...lesser songs like Celebration Day and Out on the Tiles are really good, and then the bangers like Immigrant Song, That's the Way, etc. just round it out. Hats off to Roy is the only real dud on the album, and even it's not as bad as I remember.
Kinda cool so far; a bit 80s, but not in a bad way.
I'm in general a fan of this kind of music, and there's some good stuff on here: I like the folky ending of Bluebird for example. But a lot of this is kind of unmemorable, and not really all that amzing.
I really like this: good, solid folk music. No complaints. Also, as someone who has tried to play Nick Drake on guitar, this shit is really difficult and he is a master of the instrument, though it sounds deceptively simple.
It's okay, I guess....but feel like it's too easy to just zone out; the songs all kind of sound the same. I'm enjoying No One Has. In N' Out Of Grace is cool too. But overall, nothing too special
I really liked this; I enjoyed it's funkiness. The title track especially was good, but lots of good stuff in here.
This isn't really my kind of thing, but it's alright so far, given that fact. It's really just the singing that I'm not super into. Like, the guitar is cool, especially on Just One Fix; and actually the singing on this one isn't as bad. But then, other songs are just kind of yelling over frantic guitar (looking at you, TV II). I feel a bit torn here; parts of this I do kind of like, and I feel like I want to like it, but somehow it doesn't quite do it? I dunno....
It's pretty good, I feel like the famous songs hold up pretty well.
I'm liking Lady Day. But I feel like this isn't necessarily the best of Lou Reed. Caroline Says and How Do You Think it Feels also decent. Oh Jim also is pretty good. Okay, actually getting into the second half of the album more than the first--Caroline II basically is just Stephanie Says, but slowed down, but it's a great song so I'm willing to overlook it. I like Sad Song a lot too.
Serge Gainsbourg is a noted super-weirdo so I am very excited for this. Though he's also, I believe, a terrible pervert and creep, so also a little frightened. Melody starts pretty cool... Ok yea, this was musically everything I hoped for: weird jazziness, cool guitar, low muttered lyrics, a general cool lush vibe that was totally awesome.. And it was also everything I feared: according to Wiki this is indeed a concept album about him having sex with a 15-year-old. Oh Serge, why can't you just make good music without being a creepo? Still, gotta judge it on the music alone, I think. So high marks, but with an asterisk
This is tough to decide. On the one hand, it opens with a bunch of bangers so strong I felt a 5 was inevitable. But there end was a little weaker (though not without bangers of its own). The last few songs were still good, but in comparison with the opening they ironically feel not as good. So, can a few 3.5 songs at the end bring this from a 5? Or does the opening barrage of It Stoned Me, Moondance, Crazy Love, Caravan, Into The Music make this a clear 5, damn what follows? Gonna think about it.
I like One of These Things First. Fly too. But this one is a bit too airy for me compared to the previous album. Still really nice.
Not Bowie at his absolute best, but still lots of good stuff on here.
This is really great; I kind of know Louis Prima as a bit of a jokey guy, and this is ridiculous, but it's also really good.
Maybe a little on the disco side of the disco/funk spectrum for my taste, but this was still generally pretty good: good groove, amazing guitar and bass; I really liked this. Notable exception was At Last I Am Free which went on about 5 minutes too long, and in general I think the back half was weaker, but I still mostly thought this was really good.
Interesting...not what I expected, knowing only Song 2. I like End of a Century and Tracy Jacks was kind of catchy. This is definitely not what I anticipated. Far Out is cool. To the End even has some Serge Gainsbourg vibes, what even is this album?! I feel like this album is so chaotic--I think it's a 3, 3.5 in terms of the music, but I want to round up a point just because it's so crazy.
Not sure how I feel; some of it I like (Vastopol), but I think overall it just misses for me.
I dunno man, Elvis just doesn't do it for me; I think his voice and style is just too much of a cliche by now. It's not bad; I enjoyed many of the songs to some extent, but it just sounds too generic.
Is this the most boring album we've listened to so far? I think so. Don't think anything interesting musically happened the whole album.
I feel like all the songs kind of sounded the same
I thought I would like this more than I did; I like the SatFS songs I know and generally like this kind of music, but I found this a bit disappointing. Everyday People and You can Make it If you Try were good (also, one song that I think was an extra on the version Google Play served up) but the rest fell a bit flat.
Not really my thing, though I did enjoy Uncertain Smile. This is earning the 3 stars of indifference from me.
This was a little underwhelming but had some good songs. She talks to Angels obviously great... This should be a 3.5
Kind of a cool vibe, a bit slow and samey so far, but interesting.
I liked this more than I thought--first of all, I recognized more than I thought. And, while it is a bit too generic-70s-rock for my taste, and too many of the songs sound basically the same, it's still pretty good generic 70s rock. I would probably give this a 3.5 but I'm happy to round up since I was pleasantly surprised.
Once again, not really my genre, and all the songs sound the same to me. It's decently well-done given that, but still.
As a Pixies fan, I was excited, but at it's best this is only mid-level Pixies. I guess it's an album to make me appreciate Kim Deal and Joey Santiago more (though apparently Santiago did contribute some guitar work). Not bad though, just, not as good as his other work. So...the above is my draft from listening to the first half or so of this yesterday...but listening to the second half it grew on me...not sure if I changed or the songs, but I can hear the Pixies-ishness more and I really dug it. Gonna bounce this up to a 4.
I really liked this. Papa Was a Rolling Stone and Love Woke Me Up This Morning were the obvious highlights, but everything was nice and funky. Good stuff.
The songs I remember being good are great; there is a little bit of filler, but still, super nostalgic, so gonna round up to a 4 here.
Well, this is a 5 without having to listen or anything
Jazzier than I expected from GSH, and mostly not for the better. It was enjoyable, but slow and same-y. A few highlights (The Bottle), but otherwise a bit too downbeat for me.
Eh, not my kind of soul, for the most part. Too long and unfocused, though not entirely without its charms.
On paper, I shouldn't have liked this album; and it was kind of weird...but it's weirdness was in a way that strangely appealed to me, so I kind of want to give it a high mark, because it pleasantly surprised me.
Man, this did not do it for me...It had moments where I wanted to like it, but I think the lesson here is that I don't like Ska; it just took songs and beats that I liked and made them more aggressive, less interesting, and less fun. I think it was good at what it did, but that is just not something that appeals to me.
I find XTC weird...I didn't dislike anything, but I also just find everything a bit off-kilter in a funny way. I dunno.
I grew more impressed as it went... At first I thought 3-3.5 but now I feel 3.5-4, so I'll be true to form and round up
Oh fuck yes I have to say... There was more filler than I remembered. Death or Glory is still the best song ever though
This may not be the Beatles at their best but this is still really fucking good. Probably a true 4.5 that I'm gonna round up because I'm Looking Through You is just so great.
I had basically no expectations, but this was pretty decent!
This was really good; some of their best stuff is on this album. Some of the songs sound a little the same, so probably a true 4.5, but I'm continuing to round up.
Did I like this because I love where it's at? Probably, yes. Did I like this because I listened to it on a beautiful summer weekend, exactly the vibe that Beck promotes? Probably, yes. Did I like this because of nostalgia? Probably, yes. Did I like this more than it deserves? Yeah but fuck it who cares
This isn't really my genre of music; but it is basically the best version possible of this genre.
This was okay, but way too long for not having all that many good songs .
So, I liked this, but a lot of the songs sounded kind of the same. I feel like this is a 3, but I have yesterday's album a 3 which I liked a lot less, so I'm a little torn.
I have nostalgic feelings for the ballad of Lucy Jordan, and I enjoyed the sister morphine cover. Generally fine, but not super memorable
I hate to say it, but this was kind of meh for a Beatles album. Too many covers. Don't get me wrong, it's still good, but nothing special.
I liked this a lot, but too many of the songs sounded the same and were too long
When I was 15 or so,a friend tried to get me into this album and but I didn't enjoy it. But now, I'm not sure why... This was pretty good, except the last song
Oh, yes. Well, this was predictably great.
I was a little skeptical with the beginning being all about how tough he was for not staying in the hospital and etc, but I actually thought this was kind of haunting and sad, his brush with death clearly shows through and I liked this more than I expected
So, I have heard like, one Pulp song before in my life, and while I didn't mind it or anything, I had no particular hopes for this album. But I really liked this! Don't know if it's quite a true 5, but relative to what I expected, I'm happy to round up. Some slight Bowie-ish vibes that I really enjoyed.
Never even heard of these people before, but this was pretty good. Probably a true 3.5; gotta decide if I should round up or down.
Man, this kind of music just does not do it for me.
Never heard of her, or this, but I quite liked it!
I like Pavement, but I feel like this is a weaker album compared to Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain, which tends to have all the major bangers (and which Google autoplayed for me after this was done, really driving home the contrast). I'd say this is a true 3.5, but I'll round up cause I like the band in general.
I only really liked one song, but none of it was terrible... Just not really my deal
Jimi right after the Isley Brothers is appropriate. Ok, so I really struggled to find this album online; I actually own a physical copy but it's at my parents' house. So this review may not be based on all the songs, or the canonical album versions. But, either way, there's enough pure gold on this to justify a 5 no matter what: All Along the Watchtower, Voodoo Child, Gypsy Eyes, Burning of the Midnight Lamp, .... and basically every song has, unsurprisingly, absolutely killer guitar. So I'm not gonna overthink this.
Nothing special; it was alright but most songs kind of blended together and sounded the same. But decent.
This was alright. Le Grange rules, but the rest is a little unmemorable
Kanye West seems like an extremely annoying person, but I have to say, I think I like his music
I liked a few songs, but pretty much none of his best stuff was on here
Some good stuff on here, but a little meh for Stevie. Feel like this is a 3.5, but I think I'll round down compared to my expectations.
This wasn't as boring as the other 2s I've handed out, but it's definitely not good enough for a 3, so alas, the lack of .5s means this gets rounded down.
Didn't really know what to expect, but I liked this!
Once again, I mostly liked a Kanye album, though this one got a bit boring at the end
Feel like you definitely hear why people were concerned about misogyny in 90s gangsta rap in this album, but other than that, it is a pretty good album.
Jeremy's pre-listen prediction: Golden Years is gonna tempt me to give this a 5 no matter what else. Let's see if I'm right.... And...this ruled. Golden Years is the highlight, but pretty great across the board.
Bit of a mixed bag: the stuff I liked I really liked, but also lots of less good stuff, and the skits...
This was...fine. I enjoyed the music okay, but it sounded a little too basic country-y for me, I think.
At its best, a cool, Bowie-ish album, but not everything hit perfectly, and some of it felt a little too in the shadow of Bowie... But still pretty good
This was alright; some good stuff, but also some long, meandering, less interesting stuff.
Billy Corgan has an annoying voice, but otherwise I'm actually quite liking this. Not sure it needed to be so long though.
Don't really know them, but I mostly enjoyed this, probably a 3.5 but I'll round up in deference to Ben
I thought I would like this more, but the songs all sound a little too the same. Some good stuff in there though.
This basically sounds like half of a really great Beatles album; it just needs the John Lennon blues-y rockers and a Harrison joint to round it out. But, half of a Beatles album is still fucking incredible, so I really liked this
If you're going to make an album of undistinguished songs that all kind of sound alike, this is the way to do it: two minutes that are all at least energetic and a little catchy.
This is a flat out great album..a handful of weaker spots but the good stuff carries it through
Another album that isn't overwhelming, but has some catchy songs, not too long, so I'm pretty happy with it
I really like drug buddy, and there's some other decent stuff, but not all of it hits. I'll give it a 4 because of how much I like its best stuff
This had cool guitar, and I liked her vocal style, but her singing is a bit too repetitive and makes all the songs sound the same--but it was still pretty cool.
None of the songs were absolute stand outs, but all good
I liked this but wasn't blown away. My favourite song was the one that sounded like happiness is a warm gun by the Beatles
I loved the songs, but they all start to blend together pretty quickly
Even though in some ways this is the kind of blues that ends up all sounding the same to me, I think the different guests really made the songs they were on distinctive. And I liked his singing, and the guitar was really good.
I was pretty happy to see that the songs were short. Turns out, short is very much relative... For a mediocre pop song, two minutes is nice and brisk. For a loop of computer sounds it's... Not. And, like, I even kind of like the idea behind this album, and thought it stabilized a bit later, but man, way too much of this was just unpleasant noise that went on too long.
This was kind of nice; nothing really jumped out but it was all pretty enjoyable
Man, she could really song. Very sad to listen t some of those songs, knowing what would happen.
This was a mostly pleasant and groovy thing to listen to half heartedly
Not quite Springsteen at his best, but still lots of good stuff
This was so outrageously sixties... Mostly in a good way but sometimes a little too ridiculous
This had a few real good songs, but the rest were very samey; they basically have one style of rapping they always fall back on and I feel like they fell back on it too much here
I really liked this! Just a lot of cool sounds and rhythms, plus I totally fell for the sapiness of him and an Israeli singer alternating verses of Imagine in Hebrew and Arabic.
The first spacey electronicy album I actually liked, though it still faded a bit at the end
I can't decide if all the lyrics about his public image and his relationship with his fans and all that is interesting, or self indulgent and repetitive. Any way, some good stuff, but pretty of its time as well
This didn't have quite the charm of the Supergrass songs I've heard and liked, but it was still pretty decent
Man, supertramp is really good, a fact I often forget
This is like an album full of Paul McCartney's weirdest post-Beatles songs, but I think mostly in a good way?
This remains not my kind of music, but it's a little more interesting than other stuff from the same genre
Never even heard of this band before, but this was pretty solid
Songs were a little too long, but still some good stuff
Man, this album is dark. No surprise about how Layne Staley's story ended, listening to this. The big songs were great, but a lot still felt like filler.
Jesus, this album is fucking good. It takes seven full songs before we get one that isn't an all-time great, and even the back half includes Drain You (10/10), and a bunch of totally solid songs that you could only object to in comparison to the absolutely killer material it started with. Like, I knew this was a 5/5 before I started listening, but Teen Spirit alone is almost enough to justify that, as are any 2 or 3 of the other first few songs. Just...so good.
This was very good! A lot of songs sounded surprisingly familiar, and there was enough really good stuff on here that I'm happy to round up to 5
Same as always: for boring and repetitive music, this was fine
Wasn't blown away by this, but it was alright
This is partly based on nostalgia, but I like this album, despite it being a little slow and mopey, and many songs having a very similar vibe
This was fun, some decent songs, some duds, some kind of both (a song about opinions on Cassavetes is ridiculous and dumb, but also very funny)
This was the electronic album I disliked the least so far, I think
Dunno if I should give this a 4 or a 5... On the one hand maybe not quite strong enough for a 5, but on the other, the stuff that's good is so good ...
This kind of music doesn't really do it for me. But I've never really listened to steely Dan despite their reputation, so glad to have finally checked out an album of theirs
This was weird, but I kind of liked it. Sounded like pavement at times
I wanted to like this more than I did...I love only shallow, and sincey other songs approached that, but a lot of it was undifferentiated
Not as good as I remember...I feel like some songs of hers I really like aren't on this like I thought they were
I liked this a lot more than I expected to...I figured it would be generic knock off psychedelic band and they kind of were... But a much higher quality than anticipated
Maybe a few songs are unnecessary, but what's good is so good
So close to a 5 but faded in the back half
No one song particularly stood out, but the overall sound really worked for me
This had it's moments but didn't quite get there
Probably the best versions of most of these songs, but listening after Christmas, the charm is a little lessened
Brand New secondhand is such a devastating insult
This was a weirdly nostalgic album for me...I have no idea where or when I heard this but I had a very powerful feeling of having heard it before an it really affected me. Weird
There is just a huge gap between sympathy for the devil and basically every other song on this album
I feel like Billy Joel has never quite "clicked" for me. I think, listening to this, it's because I don't feel like his voice matches his songs: to song songs that are a little cheesy, you need to have a voice that just overpowers the feeling of cheesiness. If he could sing like Freddie Mercury, I'd love his stuff. But it comes off a little too earnest, and so it doesn't quite do it for me.
This was not what I expected; it was ok, nothing special
I expected to like this more than I did, but at least did inspire me to go track down some yeah yeah yeahs songs I really liked back in the day
Thunder Road is such a killer song. Probably a true 3.5, but Thunder Road and the title track bring it up
Not Neil at his best, but it's still good
Part of this is motivated by nostalgia, since this album meant _a lot_ to me when I was in high school; but Way That Young Lovers do still bangs, and the title track, Cypress Avenue, Madame George, Slim Slow Slider are all great.
Feel like with all Joni, no one song stands out, but somehow the whole thing is just...excellent
I enjoyed this way more than I expected
Some really good stuff, but not enough a full album's worth
I tried listening to them back when they were a big deal, and didn't really get it. I was a little more receptive this time around but still not all that mind blowing
Easy listening, but they all sounded the same
I tried to listen to Roxy Music years and years ago, and it didn't do anything for me, but I must have listened to the wrong album because I really liked this! Close to a 5
A low 5, but the stuff that's good is so good
This isn't really my type of music, but it was pretty good for what it was
Man, I am two minds on this .. Some songs were really good, but then some were just him being like, "Johnny's stoned... But I'm not... If Johnny's so great, why's he stoned?" Over and over Just gonna split the difference
I was a little worried this was gonna be like sticky fingers, with two great songs and the rest nothing special, but even the ones I don't really know turned out to be bangers
This was fine, I guess. Hard to see why it's an album I had to listen to before I die, but whatever
Some great stuff on here, but not quite enough for it to stand out as a whole album
