Field Music

Field Music is the debut album of the eponymous indie rock band. Though a lot of instrumentation is used, it is used sparsely creating a sound that leaves room for air. That works great as the compositions themselves are quite edgy. The band has a very clear guitar sound and the piano parts are also nice. It's a sort of near acoustic post rock. Best tracks are "Got to Get the Nerve", "Got to Write a Letter", "If Only the Moon Were Up" and "Shorter Shorter".

What a delight. A little low key, but I enjoyed every second.

Wow, I've not heard (or heard of) these guys before. Upon listening, I couldn't help but home in on the accent. Sure enough, they're from Sunderland, about 15 miles up the road. This is actually a pretty decent album. 2005 was a bad time for music, but this seems to have sidestepped most of the awful follies of mid-2000s indy. It doesn't necessarily feel as cohesive as it could do, but as a first album it's a jolly decent stab. It's interesting enough (and local enough) to make me think I should try out some of their later stuff.

There's a lot more here than meets the eye (ear) on the surface ... I initially started without paying full attention and wasn't getting much out of it but there's a clever complexity to these seemingly simple melodies. After starting over and listening more closely - I'm hearing bits of Shins, Rheostatics, Grizzly Bear, Elliot Smith, XTC ... just within the first few songs. Only the smallest touch of whimsy but not nearly enough to not get cute/pedantic...odd timings that frustrate me in the best / most fun way. I enjoy when I'm challenged a bit in trying to "figure out" a song. This is definitely a slow build album - first pass through I wasn't sure but I gave it another full listen and am starting to love this - keeper / cool pick. 7/10 4 stars. IMO: Belonged in the book? No.

Nice tunes, creative indie

Reminds me of the Shins. And much like the Shins, I enjoy it but I'm not sure it holds up under repeat listens (for me, at least). A little too cutesy-fartsy. 3 stars.

Enjoyed this one

I started off lowkey liking it.... it was different and experimental but not too out there where it's almost too different to digest. I almost wish they did do something a little out of character or quirky to get me more excited and recognize something really good, but I did really like it. High 3.

Not bad

This definitely sounded like the kind of thing I listened to in the early 2000s. I’d probably like it a lot more then. As it was, it was pretty good.

Some of the more forgettable music on here. I listened to it yesterday and forgot to write a review until today and I just cannot think of a single thing to say about this. I listened to the entire album straight through in my car. I had no distractions. I listened to every single track closely. It is oblivion to me now.

I listened to this but I have absolutely no memory of it
