Reviews
The Cat Empire is absolutely crazy, when you think it's settled into one style it goes somewhere completely different, and goes from jazz to ska punk to vaudeville to trying to copy The Streets and loads in between. I don't know how much of it works but it's fun when it does, The Chariot is a decent ska number, The Wine Song sounds like it should be on stage on Broadway or the West End or in a fucking circus, I dunno :D I think it made me smile enough to earn a 3/5, what a silly album for a Sunday morning.
I can't deny this LP has energy and heart in spades, but perhaps a bit too much for its own good. The instrumental focus swerves all over the place, pulling from bossa nova influences before veering into straight pop or somewhere else across the genre map. The lyrics stray into corny territory multiple times, and feel at once juvenile yet overdone. The execution is clearly well done, just feel the final product is a bit too much all at once on multiple fronts.
Alternative rock, jazz, ska, reggae. Está bien. Un 4, venga.
Could be worse 2.5
Interesting album. I liked it for the most part.
Jazz, funk, mariachi, Australian? Wild ride
Yet again baited by the genre name. You'd think "Acid Jazz" would be like really psychedelic jazz, but nope it's just that shit they play at pool parties. Not really my vibe. 2/5.
Honestly don't know
