Popular Reviews

Woodface by Crowded House

I'm biased, as I already love Crowded House, though Temple of Low Men is the best album. Fall At Your Feet is such a simple but achingly beautiful love song... Love how they take simple songs and always add a twist - an unusual time signature, layered production that grows through the song, clever harmonies. Fav new song: Four Seasons In One Day

Born In The U.S.A. by Bruce Springsteen

Holy shitfuck, I hate his voice. Plus, Darlington County is just Born In The USA with different words. It's literally 2 tracks later!! Shameless. Fav new track: I'm Goin' Down as it was the most ridiculous.

Dear Science by TV On The Radio

Wow. This was totally unexpected... Every track is completely different - so mature and interesting. Prob my favourite new album so far! Fav new track: Tough to call and will prob change on re-listens, but maybe Love Dog.

Doolittle by Pixies

Wow, the tracks on this are so short! It's a great vibe - I only knew Here Comes Your Man/Monkey Gone To Heaven before. I'm gutted that I missed out on grunge/alt while it was happening but at least I rode the Britpop wagon for all it was worth.

Deloused in the Comatorium by The Mars Volta

One of my favourite albums of all time ๐Ÿ˜ I still remember when I first discovered them at uni and was blown away by such a perfect blend of structure/batshit craziness. Also in my top 5 gigs. So fucking cathartic! Fav new track: N/A, but it's between the transition from Son el Lumiere into Inertiatic Esp and Televators...

What a belter of a first track to kick this project off! I hadn't heard past the first two tracks before, but was hooked by 2mins into the third.... Perfection. ๐Ÿ‘Œ

Let England Shake by PJ Harvey
Sep 28 2021

I wish the ratings were out of 10, as this is a solid 3.5 for me. Clearly musically impressive, but I've just never been a huge fan of her voice - bit too drifty.. Fav new song: The Words That Maketh Murder

Morrison Hotel by The Doors
Sep 29 2021

Oo, I really don't know The Doors well and have always felt I should. This album is what many people (my dad) would class as "Proper Music" - something I probably don't appreciate enough. Right from the off, Roadhouse Blues sounds like so much fun to play, but I wasn't hugely taken by the rest, tbh. Not so keen when it gets more stoner vibes. Fav new song: Roadhouse Blues

Transformer by Lou Reed
Sep 30 2021

This is classy af. Though I'll never be convinced that Perfect Day is any good. Fav new song - Goodnight Ladies

If You're Feeling Sinister by Belle & Sebastian
Oct 01 2021

Chill vibes for a chill work day up 1 Canada Square ๐Ÿ˜Ž A bit meh, though - too many tracks sounded too similar for my liking. Fav new song - If You're Feeling Sinister

Woodface by Crowded House

Oct 06 2021

This was pretty tough, can't lie. Alright as background music while working, but nothing to write home about. I found its attempts at being "experimental" to just meld into a wall of blandness. Sorry... Fav new track (I guess?): And You And I

Nevermind by Nirvana
Oct 07 2021

I mean... it feels sacrilegious to write a review for this. No notes. Fav new track: N/A (but fav old track is prob Lithium for shouty-alongy-ness)

Hunky Dory by David Bowie
Oct 08 2021

Aw, Changes is always just such a heart-warmer โค๏ธ Haven't really listened to Bowie albums before, and am gonna have to change that. This was pure delight, from start to finish. Fav new track: Fill Your Heart, I think (such pretty piano) but loads of candidates.

Pornography by The Cure
Oct 11 2021

Hmm. Not really my thing, but didn't offend me. Prob wouldn't listen again, but a good one to tick off. Fav new track: The Figurehead, I think.

Sound Affects by The Jam
Oct 12 2021

Loved this. Sprinkling of the familiar alongside the new, but all great fun. Fav new track: Man In The Corner Shop

Dear Science by TV On The Radio
Oct 13 2021

Wow. This was totally unexpected... Every track is completely different - so mature and interesting. Prob my favourite new album so far! Fav new track: Tough to call and will prob change on re-listens, but maybe Love Dog.

Disintegration by The Cure
Oct 14 2021

This was so totally different from the other The Cure album a few days back (Pornography). What a difference 7 years makes... Lots to enjoy here :-) Fav new track: Fascination Street

Deloused in the Comatorium by The Mars Volta
Oct 15 2021

One of my favourite albums of all time ๐Ÿ˜ I still remember when I first discovered them at uni and was blown away by such a perfect blend of structure/batshit craziness. Also in my top 5 gigs. So fucking cathartic! Fav new track: N/A, but it's between the transition from Son el Lumiere into Inertiatic Esp and Televators...

Mr. Tambourine Man by The Byrds
Oct 18 2021

Also unexpectedly fun ๐Ÿ‘ Few too many tracks, though! Fav new track: Don't Doubt Yourself, Babe

Aladdin Sane by David Bowie
Oct 19 2021

Not as good as Hunky Dory, but still amazing. Some great keys throughout. Fav new track: Lady Grinning Soul

Scream, Dracula, Scream by Rocket From The Crypt
Oct 20 2021

I had no idea what to expect from this - fun! Fav new track: Born in '69

Oct 21 2021

Not really my thing, tbh. Not a 1, as was obviously musical, but just not something I'd listen to lots. Fav new track: I'm A Lonesome Fugitive

Sheet Music by 10cc
Oct 22 2021

Well, that was unexpected! Pretty easy to listen to, but was a bit scattered. Fav new track: The Worst Band In The World

Blue Lines by Massive Attack
Oct 25 2021

A veritable banger, already with many plays by me. I think I'll always prefer Mezzanine and Heligoland, but this is so impressive for a debut. Fav new track: N/A, but fav old track is prob still Safe From Harm. Memories of drilling the iwaslookingbackatyou section back in the day...

Suede by Suede
Oct 26 2021

I never really got into Suede back in the day, so am surprised by such delicate sounds and production from a band I'd just lumped in with other early 90s Britpop. Nice! Fav new track: Pantomime Horse or The Next Life

Bubble And Scrape by Sebadoh
Oct 27 2021

Yeahnah, not for me. Every time I thought I was getting a normal track, they did something jarring and weird. Fav new track: Think (Let Tomorrow Bee)

The Real Thing by Faith No More
Oct 29 2021

More interesting than I expected from just knowing Epic & War Pig. Will probably listen again! Fav new track: Edge of the World

Nov 01 2021

Super cute gunslinger ballads - enjoyed lots more than I expected! Perfect campfire music, and love all the close harmonies. Fav new track: El Paso

Physical Graffiti by Led Zeppelin
Nov 02 2021

Kashmir is absolute gold, and I've always liked this album. Fav new (forgotten) track: Boogie With Stu

The Colour Of Spring by Talk Talk
Nov 03 2021

Strong Crowded House vibes, and a bit of a jolt when Life's What You Make It popped up out of nowhere. Overall, inoffensive and pleasant enough. Fav new track: Happiness Is Easy

Nov 04 2021

Air doing their Air thing! Fav new track: Suicide Underground

Darkness on the Edge of Town by Bruce Springsteen
Nov 05 2021

Eurgh. Dad music... if my dad was a wannabe cowboy gun-totin' sonovabitch. Just not my cup of tea, I'm afraid. Fav new track: Candy's Room

The Stranger by Billy Joel
Nov 08 2021

This was bloody brilliant and sums up why I'm doing all this. I know all The Hits, but would never have gone out of my way to listen to Billy Joel. Fav new track: Scenes From An Italian Restaurant (absolute goals to play piano like this)

Born In The U.S.A. by Bruce Springsteen
Nov 09 2021

Holy shitfuck, I hate his voice. Plus, Darlington County is just Born In The USA with different words. It's literally 2 tracks later!! Shameless. Fav new track: I'm Goin' Down as it was the most ridiculous.

Nov 11 2021

Inoffensive, but unmemorable. I do like the title, though. Fav new track: Chemtrails Over The Country Club

Mask by Bauhaus
Nov 12 2021

Well, that was tough. Fav new track: I couldn't...

Superfly by Curtis Mayfield
Nov 15 2021
Bandwagonesque by Teenage Fanclub
Nov 16 2021

Sweet album! Fav new track: December

Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd
Nov 18 2021

Sublime as ever. While Dark Side might have better stand-out tracks, this is their most cohesive album, and such a gorgeous soundscape! Fav new track: N/A, but old is ofc Wish You Were Here.

Achtung Baby by U2
Nov 19 2021

Liked this more than I expected. A bit rougher than I thought from only knowing One - still not at the over-polished soulless place they'd reached by the end of the 90s. Fav new track: Mysterious Ways

Led Zeppelin by Led Zeppelin
Nov 22 2021

Goddamn... this album. I wish I'd been around when it first dropped - how did people cope?! Fav new track: N/A (but Babe I'm Gonna Leave You for the music/vox interplay and emotion, Dazed & Confused for the bassline, How Many More Times for the breakdown...)

Illinois by Sufjan Stevens
Nov 23 2021

I knew a couple of these, but the rest were fun! Top marks for track names ๐Ÿ† Fav new track: The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades Is Out To Get Us

Swordfishtrombones by Tom Waits
Nov 24 2021

That was fine. Bit weird, and not a fan of his voice, but the piano and lounge vibe was decent. Fav new track: Soldier's Things

Beautiful Freak by Eels
Nov 25 2021

Knew a fair few of these, and love the vibe. Fav new track: Your Lucky Day In Hell

xx by The xx
Nov 29 2021
Two Dancers by Wild Beasts
Dec 01 2021

A bit Elbow-y at times, but without the interesting bits. Inoffensive, but not sure it's worthy of this list! Fav new track: All The King's Men

Killing Joke by Killing Joke
Dec 02 2021

Bit too thumpy and repetitive, but fine as background music. Fav new track: Requiem

Imagine by John Lennon
Dec 03 2021

I'm really pissed off. I wanted to hate this off the back of its dirge of a title track, but turns out he's actually an amazing songwriter. Who knew ๐Ÿ™„ Fav new track: Oh My Love is sweet...

Risque by CHIC
Dec 06 2021

More variety than I thought there'd be from only knowing their big singles. Nice groove, good background work music. Fav new track: Will You Cry (When You Hear This Song)

Miriam Makeba by Miriam Makeba
Dec 07 2021

Captivating - sounded loads more modern than it is. Fav new track: Mbube, though One More Dance made me smile and House Of The Rising Sun was one of the best covers I've heard.

Phaedra by Tangerine Dream
Dec 08 2021

Not as weird as I expected, but not exactly gonna listen again. Fav new track: Mysterious Semblance At The Strand Of Nightmares (๐Ÿ™„)

Live At The Regal by B.B. King
Dec 10 2021

B.B. being B.B. Fav new track: You Upset Me Baby

Songs In The Key Of Life by Stevie Wonder
Dec 13 2021

Mate. I will neeever tire of Sir Duke, and shoot me dead if ever I listen to it without miming the horns. Classy all round. Fav new track: Pastime Paradise cos I HAD NO IDEA ๐Ÿคฏ

On The Beach by Neil Young
Dec 14 2021

Aye, not bad, actually. Was expecting boring crooning, but there were some bops here. Fav new track: Walk On

Moss Side Story by Barry Adamson
Dec 15 2021

OK, so this is apparently meant to be a soundtrack for a fictional film noir movie. Makes sense knowing that - it gets an extra โญ๏ธ ๐Ÿ‘ Bit too experimental for me, though. Fav new track: Under Wraps

Go Girl Crazy by The Dictators
Dec 16 2021

I get it, but just not really my cup of tea. Fav new track: California Sun

Junkyard by The Birthday Party
Dec 17 2021

I'm sorry, no. Just no. Maybe the first one I've tapped out of. Not the Monday afternoon vibes we were looking for! Fav new track: She's Hit (as I didn't get much further)

Dec 20 2021

This is more like it! Always baffled by how modern their production sounds. Waterloo Sunset is pure bliss (even if I'll keep a soft spot for the Alisha's Attic version ๐Ÿ‘€). Fav new track: End of the Season

Disraeli Gears by Cream
Jan 06 2022

Perfectly acceptable listening! Fav new track: Mother's Lament - my mum used to sing this to me in the bath, had no idea it was a real song!!

Fever Ray by Fever Ray
Jan 07 2022

Ah, nice work music - nonintrusive but pretty with slick production. Fav new track: Coconut

The Wall by Pink Floyd
Jan 11 2022

Yeeeeessss - second fav PF album. Love how ridiculously OTT and theatric it all is. Fav new track: N/A, but would have to be The Trial.
