1001 Albums Summary

What a belter of a first track to kick this project off! I hadn't heard past the first two tracks before, but was hooked by 2mins into the third.... Perfection. 👌

Wow, the tracks on this are so short! It's a great vibe - I only knew Here Comes Your Man/Monkey Gone To Heaven before. I'm gutted that I missed out on grunge/alt while it was happening but at least I rode the Britpop wagon for all it was worth.

I wish the ratings were out of 10, as this is a solid 3.5 for me. Clearly musically impressive, but I've just never been a huge fan of her voice - bit too drifty.. Fav new song: The Words That Maketh Murder

Oo, I really don't know The Doors well and have always felt I should. This album is what many people (my dad) would class as "Proper Music" - something I probably don't appreciate enough. Right from the off, Roadhouse Blues sounds like so much fun to play, but I wasn't hugely taken by the rest, tbh. Not so keen when it gets more stoner vibes. Fav new song: Roadhouse Blues

This is classy af. Though I'll never be convinced that Perfect Day is any good. Fav new song - Goodnight Ladies

Chill vibes for a chill work day up 1 Canada Square 😎 A bit meh, though - too many tracks sounded too similar for my liking. Fav new song - If You're Feeling Sinister

I'm biased, as I already love Crowded House, though Temple of Low Men is the best album. Fall At Your Feet is such a simple but achingly beautiful love song... Love how they take simple songs and always add a twist - an unusual time signature, layered production that grows through the song, clever harmonies. Fav new song: Four Seasons In One Day

This was pretty tough, can't lie. Alright as background music while working, but nothing to write home about. I found its attempts at being "experimental" to just meld into a wall of blandness. Sorry... Fav new track (I guess?): And You And I

Aw, Changes is always just such a heart-warmer ❤️ Haven't really listened to Bowie albums before, and am gonna have to change that. This was pure delight, from start to finish. Fav new track: Fill Your Heart, I think (such pretty piano) but loads of candidates.

Hmm. Not really my thing, but didn't offend me. Prob wouldn't listen again, but a good one to tick off. Fav new track: The Figurehead, I think.

Wow. This was totally unexpected... Every track is completely different - so mature and interesting. Prob my favourite new album so far! Fav new track: Tough to call and will prob change on re-listens, but maybe Love Dog.

This was so totally different from the other The Cure album a few days back (Pornography). What a difference 7 years makes... Lots to enjoy here :-) Fav new track: Fascination Street

One of my favourite albums of all time 😍 I still remember when I first discovered them at uni and was blown away by such a perfect blend of structure/batshit craziness. Also in my top 5 gigs. So fucking cathartic! Fav new track: N/A, but it's between the transition from Son el Lumiere into Inertiatic Esp and Televators...

Not as good as Hunky Dory, but still amazing. Some great keys throughout. Fav new track: Lady Grinning Soul

I never really got into Suede back in the day, so am surprised by such delicate sounds and production from a band I'd just lumped in with other early 90s Britpop. Nice! Fav new track: Pantomime Horse or The Next Life

Yeahnah, not for me. Every time I thought I was getting a normal track, they did something jarring and weird. Fav new track: Think (Let Tomorrow Bee)

Super cute gunslinger ballads - enjoyed lots more than I expected! Perfect campfire music, and love all the close harmonies. Fav new track: El Paso

Kashmir is absolute gold, and I've always liked this album. Fav new (forgotten) track: Boogie With Stu

Strong Crowded House vibes, and a bit of a jolt when Life's What You Make It popped up out of nowhere. Overall, inoffensive and pleasant enough. Fav new track: Happiness Is Easy

This was bloody brilliant and sums up why I'm doing all this. I know all The Hits, but would never have gone out of my way to listen to Billy Joel. Fav new track: Scenes From An Italian Restaurant (absolute goals to play piano like this)

Holy shitfuck, I hate his voice. Plus, Darlington County is just Born In The USA with different words. It's literally 2 tracks later!! Shameless. Fav new track: I'm Goin' Down as it was the most ridiculous.

Sublime as ever. While Dark Side might have better stand-out tracks, this is their most cohesive album, and such a gorgeous soundscape! Fav new track: N/A, but old is ofc Wish You Were Here.

Captivating - sounded loads more modern than it is. Fav new track: Mbube, though One More Dance made me smile and House Of The Rising Sun was one of the best covers I've heard.
