Quiet Life by Japan

Never heard of them before. Seems kinda synth electro rock dancy and very 80s. I guess this is new wave music? Despair was very mopey and in French but felt like a noir movie song. Album got a bit slow and emo ish at despair and continued that trend with in vogue. Halloween picked it up a bit and improved things. Little to slow but very atmospheric. Not really my favorite but well done. Wouldn't listen to the album again, but maybe a few songs. 2 stars?

Zombie by Fela Kuti
Dec 12 2022

Puts you in a trance so you can be a zombie oh zombie. Song is long but actually kept me engaged. Steel drums were cool. Song is a critique of the Nigerian army, so political and dancy.

American Beauty by Grateful Dead
Dec 13 2022

Makes me think of the last episode of freaks and geeks. Probably like the songs on workingman's dead a bit more. I have a soft spot for this music that is likely not shared by others in the group....solid album like almost all the songs but not fond of Candyman.

Blood Sugar Sex Magik by Red Hot Chili Peppers
Dec 14 2022

Is this the bad that lead us to rap metal? It told me to wake up and smell the slime in the first song. Flea does have some funky base lines. My lilly white ass is tickled pink by music that makes me think. Truly the voice of a generation. This explains the 90s. Suck my kiss doesn't hold up. The lyrics are half scat nonsense. 17 songs is a lot. Patty fell asleep. It is all well done and played, but I don't think I would listen again. Start to righteous and the wicked was some cool sounding guitar. Was it mixed weird? Bass was all over the place. Maybe just the Spotify version?

Risque by CHIC
Dec 15 2022

Not my favorite genre but the first song is a classic. Better than other disco. Skipped two tracks after halfway into them. 2 stars

Pyromania by Def Leppard
Dec 16 2022

Way better than I thought it would bem really enjoyed it. Brian was not impressed with my one armed drummer Trivia. It passed the Alice test as she stayed in the room the whole time. How long until Brian blasts this during a workout in the garage?

Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park
Dec 19 2022

High school weightlifting ruined this album for me. It pushed me close the edge and now I am gonna break. I am not angry enough for this anymore.

Dec 20 2022

First song was good and felt like it was building then it went into a song about doing dishes and feeling alive. Next song is ok but had a weird line about loads and party frocks. 4th song is about old people in care homes and how people should shag them. 5th song is about making a sex tape with what has to be the old person in the previous song. The albums next song appears to be a breakup song which means the previous sextape with the old person can't have gone well. A little soul seems to be the next step in the grieving process where he offers unsolicited advice to his son. At least I hope it's his son. It could be the old ladies son which is a Pandora's box. Next, we have an existential crisis about what it means to be a man and a good humble brag about getting his car up to 110 mph. It's pretty catchy though. Then Barry seduces the listener. Songs got a bit of a tonal change from the rest of the album. I did not like this song. The husky lyrical singing felt very right said Fred. Was far too long. We now find out the name of the geriatric lover is Sylvia. It's got a good catchy refrain. This might be the best song on the album. Possibly lamenting past heroin use on glory days? Space race/toilets line is good. In the last song is the revolution the end of a rave/night out? The outro is crazy long but there is at least one. Bye bye in there, which is kind of hilarious. The music seems pretty genre crossing. Got a little Radiohead feel going on but more fancy? Weird overly long husky voice tracks to catchy emotional rock. Really like the start slow and then build up into something larger method, but some of the songs were pretty hit or miss. Their previous album, different class, seems to have all their big hits like common people.

The Scream by Siouxsie And The Banshees
Dec 22 2022

First 3 songs sucks, but the album gets way better after that. Good early punk that you can tell had influence on other bands. The Spotify biography was pretty interesting. Band members included sid vicious and Robert Smith of the cure.

Boston by Boston
Dec 23 2022

Classic. All bangers. 5 stars

Dec 27 2022

Let's all drink to the death of a clown. Harry rag is a cigarette in British rhyming slang. Didn't know what to expect with this album but it was pretty fun. Curious what made this album make this list. There must have been something pretty unique about it at the time.

Murmur by R.E.M.
Dec 28 2022

It was fine. I guess I don't like REM.

Gorillaz by Gorillaz
Dec 29 2022

This album wasn't what I expected. Blur, techno/electronic, brit pop, alternatives, experimental mish mash. Did not expect the Spanish ballad. Liked the first half better than the second but I did the the whole thing was pretty good. Hello is anyone there?

Quiet Life by Japan

Woodface by Crowded House
Jan 02 2023

Bad dental music

Roger the Engineer by The Yardbirds
Jan 03 2023

Pretty good. 60s psychedelic blues rock. Some catchy songs. Patty gave her seal of approval . Nothing to make this a favorite for me, but it's a good album.

Out Of The Blue by Electric Light Orchestra
Jan 04 2023

Much like Chicago, the whole album was great 5 stars. Was just a fun album. Lots of dynamic range and good stuff going on. I had never heard the whole album before.

GREY Area by Little Simz
Jan 05 2023

Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath
Jan 06 2023

Black Sabbath!!!!!!!!

Beautiful Freak by Eels
Jan 10 2023

Not bad. Spotify kept glitching the first song. Liked.3/4 of the album. Metal was good. Last few so gs dragged on. 3 stars.

Play by Moby
Jan 11 2023

Liked the first half better than the second half. I am betting the second half is the b sides. I had never listened to moby outside of the radio hits and actually enjoyed it quite a bit. 3.5 stars?

Better than expected for a group that famously couldn't play their instruments. Made me think of tony hawks pro skater. Yet another classic album I had never listened to except for the hits. Not sure I would listen to the whole album for fun so 3 stars.

Music for the Masses by Depeche Mode
Jan 13 2023

Depeche mode music for the masses? More like music sung from asses. Do not like the singers voice

Illinois by Sufjan Stevens
Jan 16 2023

It was really good. Serial killer song makes me think someone should check his yard.

In It For The Money by Supergrass
Jan 17 2023

Hadn't heard this album but had heard some of their hits. Started strong, meandered in the middle, but I liked the back half.

Dirt by Alice In Chains
Jan 18 2023

Music holds up. I did not remember most of there songs being about heroin, but I guess it makes sense in hindsight.....not something I would listen to all the time, but even rooster is still good even after years of radio play.

Horses by Patti Smith
Jan 19 2023

Didn't mind it the first time but then listen the next day with Patty and I did not enjoy it nearly as much. Little too much talk singing. Definitely a bit experimental. A few of the songs were okay.

Songs In The Key Of Life by Stevie Wonder
Jan 20 2023

Had some timeless classics. Album was a double and a bit long, but overall very good. Adding a subwoofer helps a lot. This album was heavily sampled by warren g and Coolio. 4 stars

The Low End Theory by A Tribe Called Quest
Jan 23 2023

Way better than the first one we had.

Jan 24 2023

Liked about half of it which was surprising since I thought I would enjoy this more. 3 stars for the hits.

Vincebus Eruptum by Blue Cheer
Jan 25 2023

Back half is better. Mixing was bad. Can hear what they are going for and I am sure it was new at the time but probably wouldn't listen again

Tigermilk by Belle & Sebastian
Jan 26 2023

Half was good. Didn't like the first two songs. Nothing that I would go back to

Planet Rock: The Album by Afrika Bambaataa
Jan 27 2023

80's club/dance/party rap. Not my favorite. Probably nothing like it at the time. Best played extremely loud. 2 stars. Definitely would have be a killer mind blowing change from disco.

Bossanova by Pixies
Jan 31 2023

Loud quiet loud. The pixies are awesome. Had not listened to this album previously and only heard Dolittle and best of

The Stranger by Billy Joel
Feb 01 2023

Better than expected. Few great songs, few that just kind of meandered on. 3 stars

Marquee Moon by Television
Feb 03 2023

Feb 08 2023

Couldn't get into it. Meh

Lost In The Dream by The War On Drugs
Feb 09 2023

Boy In Da Corner by Dizzee Rascal

Better than I thought and chock full of hits. Unexpected 3 stars.

Bluesbreakers by John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers
Feb 23 2023

Good playing but not so great vocals. Meh

Feb 24 2023

Some of the songs were ok like girlfriend in a coma but Morrissey has a really whiny singing voice. Morrissey sucks.

The Atomic Mr Basie by Count Basie & His Orchestra
Feb 27 2023

Really enjoyed this and did not expect to. Great to just have on in the background. Great trumpet and the musicianship is off the charts. Jazz drums!

From Elvis In Memphis by Elvis Presley
Feb 28 2023

Better that expected. Didn't love all of it but in the ghetto was a surprise. 3 stars

S.F. Sorrow by The Pretty Things
Mar 01 2023

It was kind of crazy. Psychedelic the Beatles then early metal all in one song I'm what has to be an experimental concept album. I honestly don't know what to make of it but I kinda liked it?

Let England Shake by PJ Harvey
Mar 02 2023

A few interesting songs but overall not that exciting. Patty did not like it. 2 stars

Californication by Red Hot Chili Peppers
Mar 03 2023

I mean it's better than I remembered but the hits are so overplayed that it just kinda makes it hard. 2 stars

The Cars by The Cars
Mar 06 2023

I didn't want to like it but it was hit after hit and well done. 4 stars

Shake Your Money Maker by The Black Crowes
Mar 07 2023

Music is fine but I just found the singers voice kinda whiny and grating. 2 stars

Odessa by Bee Gees
Mar 08 2023

This album was not expected. I had no idea they did non disco material and this album was cohesive and full of surprisingly fun songs. Also had crazy legit bass for an album of the era. Surprised 4 stars.

The Colour Of Spring by Talk Talk
Mar 09 2023

Patty thought it was just random Spotify autoplay and said we could just turn it off 😂 It's like smooth rock elevator muzak The song give it up was solid though.

Head Hunters by Herbie Hancock
Mar 10 2023

Enjoyed the entire thing. Great jazz album.

Joan Armatrading by Joan Armatrading
Mar 15 2023

Liked the first song a lot, few other good ones mixed in as well. Surprised 3 stars

Stardust by Willie Nelson
Mar 20 2023

I don't get why this is on this list. Maybe I just don't get Willie Nelson but this really wasn't very good. One star

Mar 21 2023

Weird journey. Sing talking to a few good songs. Lots of western themes but also kinda modern? I don't know. Like the song my friend. Didn't hate it. Didn't love it. 2 stars (maybe harsh?)

Broken English by Marianne Faithfull
Mar 22 2023

I do not like this album. MEH. Patty says 1 star.

Life Thru A Lens by Robbie Williams
Mar 23 2023

It was actually kind of enjoyable. Few big hits. Not my favorite genre, but surprised 3 stars.
