Popular Reviews

The Doors by The Doors

The Doors! One of the most overrated bands of all time. Boring never ending music as a backdrop to pathetic junkie cod philosophy that’s got undeserved kudos because music journalists are generally not that clever.

Jan 20 2023

Speaks to me of a time and place and brings me back to being that again and in that place again every time I turn it on. It’s also, not afraid to turn the lens back on that culture and to me it’s both involved in and way more self consciously critical of elements of it than I think is often reflected in commentary.

Pink Flag by Wire
Jan 25 2023

Fun album. Fun band. So far ahead of the curve that 3 songs into an early punk album they’re already bored and off somewhere else pioneering post punk.

Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots by The Flaming Lips
Jan 30 2023

This album is a pure affirmation of joy. They first two thirds is perfection but it does tail off towards the end.

Feb 02 2023

Elton’s sprawling masterpiece. The album where, more than any other, he maintains the quality beyond the singles. The opener is an absolute monster of an 11 minute song.

Tidal by Fiona Apple
Feb 07 2023

My favourite album of here’s. Frighteningly precocious and mature way beyond her years on this debut album.

Leftism by Leftfield
Feb 09 2023

So this album is perfect. Every track could have been a single. It’s my 4th favourite of theirs because, well, they’re Radiohead and they did a lot right. Street Spirit is the best closing track by a band that specialises in closing tracks. This whole album is a happy place. 10/5 Immerse your soul in love.

1984 by Van Halen
Feb 16 2023

1 for Jump being such a big hit. I’m being very generous here.

Thriller by Michael Jackson
Feb 17 2023

I was never a huge Jackson fan and of his catalogue this always felt like the slightly less deserving massive hit that followed a much better album. The best thing about this is the video to the title single. In a bubble this would be a 3. He loses a point for being who he was.

KIWANUKA by Michael Kiwanuka
Mar 13 2023

Cracking album, one of the best of 2019. I probably marginally prefer his second album, Love & Hate, but that doesn’t detract from this one in any way, shape or form.

Garbage by Garbage
Mar 17 2023

A bit slick for me and the singles didn’t have the impact I seemed to remember them having. Kinda average, not an album someone must hear.

Dummy by Portishead
Mar 20 2023

Beautiful, cool, minimal.

Funeral by Arcade Fire
Mar 29 2023

It’s ok. Rebellion (Lies) is great. It’s a 2.5 that I’ll round up because it really like that one song.

Rubber Soul by Beatles
Mar 30 2023

It the Beatles. It’s one of their best. Run for your life is a stain that should lose it a half point but there aren’t half points and it’s nearer a 5 than a 4.

Court And Spark by Joni Mitchell
Apr 03 2023

One of Joni’s wonderful 5/5 albums.

Dig Your Own Hole by The Chemical Brothers
Apr 04 2023

Individual tracks are kinda ok in the right humour but it doesn’t work as a whole and some of it is poor.

Daydream Nation by Sonic Youth
Apr 12 2023

I like sonic youth and I appreciate what they did but lots of their stuff doesn’t so much leave me cold as much as I don’t really feel the need to listen to it all that often This album is the exception. Could listen to it on a loop. Sprawling magnificent masterpiece.

Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon & Garfunkel
Apr 21 2023

Hmmm. So The Boxer is very good and The Only Living Boy In New York is outstanding. The rest of the album isn’t great and the title track is a schmaltzy ott dirge that feels genetically designed to be covered by desperate contestants in those exploitative tv talent shows.

Electric Warrior by T. Rex
Apr 24 2023

Singles band. This is their best album but I’m still not convinced outside the singles.

Heroes by David Bowie
May 08 2023
The Doors by The Doors
May 15 2023

The Doors! One of the most overrated bands of all time. Boring never ending music as a backdrop to pathetic junkie cod philosophy that’s got undeserved kudos because music journalists are generally not that clever.

Buffalo Springfield Again by Buffalo Springfield
May 16 2023

Buffalo Springfield. Pleasant non essential fare. Only album of theirs that should be on this list is that other one with that song we all know. 2.5/5 rounded down.

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
May 17 2023

Not Petty’s best, that was still to come, but this is just so much fun. A pure unadulterated adrenaline rush. I can’t listen to this without humming along with a big smile on my face. 3.5/5 rounded up.

Play by Moby
May 24 2023

Who wants a Volvo estate? A Renault Scenic? Maybe a Volkswagen Passat diesel? Shit cars. Shit adverts. Shit music. Shit man. 0/5

The Bends by Radiohead
May 25 2023

So this album is perfect. Every track could have been a single. It’s my 4th favourite of theirs because, well, they’re Radiohead and they did a lot right. Street Spirit is the best closing track by a band that specialises in closing tracks. This whole album is a happy place. 10/5 Immerse Your Soul In Love

Drunk by Thundercat
May 26 2023

This is really, really good. A little overlong and laboured in places, perhaps, but it is very good. Apocalypse is probably a more focused and realised album. 3.5/5 rounded down.

Highway to Hell by AC/DC
May 31 2023

Is this original? Nope. Is it clever? Nope. Is it just a whole load of fun? Fuck Yeah!

Jun 01 2023

I love solo Peter Gabriel. I am contemptuous to solo Phil Collins. I’d previously only heard latter day Genesis that was reductive boring FM pop. This is worse. It’s actually worse than the Brian Eno record which is really a new low charted for this list.

1977 by Ash
Jun 02 2023

Fuuuuuuuuuun!

Document by R.E.M.
Jun 05 2023

Really good album but not their pinnacle which came prior.

Illinois by Sufjan Stevens
Jun 06 2023

One of only two Sufjan albums I enjoy. Carrie and Lowell is the other. It’s good but it’s kinda over long. 2.5 rounded up.

OK Computer by Radiohead
Jun 12 2023

My all time favourite album. Perfect from start to finish.

The Hissing Of Summer Lawns by Joni Mitchell
Jun 15 2023

I liked it a lot more than I remembered liking it. Still not a very top tier Joni for me, I like at least 4 other albums more, but much better than I had remembered. 3.5/5 rounded up.

Jun 23 2023

Favourite blur album. Full of quality hook laden tunes. Love Blue Jeans

Homework by Daft Punk
Jun 26 2023

Fun! Makes you want to dance. My second favourite release of theirs.

All Things Must Pass by George Harrison
Jun 27 2023

Brilliant. Strongest post Beatles album where all the songs that he’d built up over the previous few years were released in one glorious go.

My Generation by The Who
Jun 28 2023

Sketches of where they were going to go. A few real iconic songs.

Grace by Jeff Buckley
Jul 03 2023

Beautiful tragic influential

Dookie by Green Day
Jul 04 2023

Fun silly childish but in places inspired

The Age Of The Understatement by The Last Shadow Puppets
Jul 05 2023

Enjoyable pastiche Walker along side project. It’s not as good as I remember it being.

The Wall by Pink Floyd
Jul 10 2023

Overlong, bloated, boring and just utterly devoid of approachability. The single most overacted artists in the history of any art form. Not quite the most overrated abli, that will come. Contains musical sleeping tablets in Comfortably Numb. This would be a zero if it could be. Listening feels like putting pins in my eyes.
