An alt rock's alt rock album.
Pretty much every song sounds like it could be in the NHL 2k13 soundtrack.
Sure.
Learned that these guys have a bunch of children's albums so I'm sure I'll be back to listen to them in a couple years.
Another lower 3. Not off to a great start here.
Best album thus far. Sounded like U2 in the back half.
Finally some good fucking food.
Not the most exciting, but I can definitely get down with this. At first I was thinking I just liked it a lot compared to the lackluster albums we have had so far, but it turns out this is just a really solid album to jam to. Perfect for a work day tbh.
I feel like the sound quality must be an artistic choice to mimic the quality of an early 2000's TV. Definitely felt like Weather Channel music.
The artistic idea of "what if instead of one of the most impactful days in a country's history was just a normal day instead" really doesn't lead to much thought provocation. It's like if someone made a cop movie where no crimes were committed that day and the characters all went home safely.
This album honestly had me for a little bit until the commercials started. Was too long as well. It also seems like The Weather Channel 1-11 aren't even Cat System Corps work, it was just ripped from a VHS.
This is certainly a unique choice for a submission. While I know not everyone likes comedy albums (I do), it was unrepresented on a list that included almost every genre known to man.
I watched this instead of just listening to it so if that changes things for people so be it.
Some real hilarious hits on this one and the whole medium was just so well done and thoughtful. The gradual descent into depression (genuine or not) was a perfect representation of being locked in during COVID. I'm sure that the gravitas of that will be lost as years progress seeing as it already feels so different watching in 2026 vs 2021. Bo letting his hair and beard grow out was a great touch to the whole project.
I think Bo has funnier stuff out there, but the creativity and commitment to this one was incredible. High 4.
As far as jazz goes, this was perfectly cromulent.
Whoever added this to the list probably has a huge hog and a huger heart.
My EnV3 could record in higher quality than this album.
It's a shame because I didn't hate the music.
I didn't really love this, but I certainly didn't hate it. It strangely had me tuned in even though it just felt aimless.
Little long, I was over it after about 40 minutes.
Nothing crazy good about it. Another album that could make it as a sports or racing game soundtrack. Little more emo than I care for, but no real qualms.
Definitely a cool add to this list. I like that it had just enough of the dialogue from the movie to remind me of what was going on during the plot.
Really well done score that blends electronic with that noir sound.
High 4. Can't quite give it a 5, but maybe I'll rewatch the movie soon.
I knew I have heard Midlife Crisis which made me go down the rabbit hole that is the GTA: San Andrea Radio Stations wiki page. Man I missed a lot of good music because I only listened to Radio X when I was 9 years old.
Anyway... This album was fine.
Very Arcade Fire-esque with the choir and the general etherealness. I mean that in a good way.
Midnight City (top 100 song) and Reunion are certified bangers.
South Mouth would be a good euphemism for a blowjob.
Not really my cuppa tea. It is on the milder side of grunge so it wasn't terrible, but nothing really stuck out to me.
Pretty solid indie rock. Enjoyed it at times, but was forgettable at other times. Approached 3.5 territory, but it kinda all blended together and didn't have anything unique enough about it to bump it to 4.
I feel like a change in vocalist or maybe even just the mixing of the vocals could really elevate this album. The band does a great job. The vocals feel disconnected in a way.
Unrelated but this gives me some Bruce Springsteen and moe. vibes.
Good, not great.
This is an odd one because I certainly went through an EDM phase so Avicii was right there the whole time. While his hits are all-timers, I haven't done a dive into his albums.
It's odd that none of the artists are featured on the song titles (at least on YouTube Music) even though it sounds like there is a variety of artists on this album.
There are a number of songs that sound like pop country, and the rest just have The Avicii Sound.
Overall I came in with high expectations and left feeling a bit underwhelmed.
Nothing wrong with someone masterfully strumming the guitar for 37 minutes.
3.5 with a Friday bump.
Another pretty solid album, but nothing remarkable. About halfway through I thought we were taking a turn down Kollaps Avenue. Glad we didn't.
Pretty much as middle of the road metal as you could ask for. Higher side of 3.
Hit me with a couple of these songs while I'm buzzed around a campfire and you'll make me feel like I'm in a movie. 10am at work on a Wednesday does not give me the same feeling.
Still good, but I'm sure there is more potential here.
Matthew Alright Band.
This is a perfectly OK album that just lands as an intro to alt rock.
Not bad, but giving this a high 2 for blandness.
Hell yeah we have broken the mid-3 train with an absolute heater.
Starts off great, carries through the middle great, finishes great.
It might not stand with the best of the best, but its an absolute jam of a listen and blows the other submitted albums (so far) clean out of the water.
Good for a run. Better than most punk.
About as good as 80's pop gets. Nice use of the synths and bass with a bubbly voice to create some catchy tunes. Can't really hate it, but I don't think this one will be remembered by the time the credits roll.
This was an interesting one for sure. I dont even think I could give this one a number grade.
On a scale on red to violet, it gets a green.
Generally not a fan of most live albums being on this list. Not because I dislike them, but because it pretty much becomes a greatest hits album.
That said, this band is awesome and they absolutely crush it live and I enjoyed every second of this show.
This was another very interesting album. Not like anything I have really heard. It's like a metal jam band. The vocals weren't my favorite, but they weren't a big part of the album.
This is one of those albums that is inoffensive in a great way. I'm sure I'm wrong, but I just can't imagine somebody hating Khraungbin unless they are just being contrarian for the sake of it. The worst I could see someone being is indifferent.
That said, I love their sound because it works equally well as a deep listen as it does to just throw on as background music for a crowd.
This is the odd "low 5"
I feel like I have been moving in parallel with Mac Demarco. He has been well known for about a decade now and plenty of people have told me they are surprised that I don't listen to him. For some reason I just never really went down the Demarchole.
A really perfect album for a 72 degree, sunny, midday walk with your dog. Definitely have heard Freaking Out the Neighborhood.
Made me sleepy the first half. Made me focused the second half.
Lyricism is pretty good, but I'm not a fan of his voice. Beats are really solid for the most part too.
Came into this one knowing a bit about Danny Brown, but never really listening to him. I also don't listen to much rap in general so maybe my understanding of this album isn't the greatest, but I didn't really care for it.
Overall I see some bits that I like, but his voice and general flow were not for me.
High 2.
Pretty dang cool. A very unique sound that isn't exactly metal or grunge or rock or nu-metal or anything like that which is appreciated.
Tool bass makes me happy.
Probably could use some trimming down, but there aren't any real misses. It's just long.
I mentioned Depeche Mode 16 times in all of my reviews; usually not in a favorable light. That said this might be my favorite Depeche Mode album thus far. Little lighter, poppier, Kraftwerk-esque.
Still don't care for the band, but this listen was pleasant enough.
Middle of the road rock with some words I couldn't understand.
Tres perfecto
Some stronger points of this album had me thinking 4, but it was more middling parts through and through.
Let's See Who Goes Down First was a great one. Granted that's the song that was playing as I finished up work and started closing out all of my tabs on a Friday, so maybe that had something to do with it.
Low 4
I also have this as my 8th ranked King Gizz album and it is definitely the threshold of their 5 star and 4 star albums because I am really struggling here. I have less listens on this album overall, but it has that excellent KGLW quality.
Fourth Color fucks, it gets the bump to 5.
Made banana pancakes while listening to this album. What a coincidence!
King of singer/songwriter. Some of the most accessible music you could imagine. Clear, fun, catchy lyrics. Simple beachy/surfy melodies. Just as enjoyable when I was 10 years old vs when I'm 30 and I'm sure I'll still be listening at 50 and 70.
Would hate to meet a Jack Johnson hater.
Elvis is Dead reminds me of Primus in a way. Maybe it's the bass and general uniqueness.
A more interesting album than I expected! Only lands at about a high 3 though.
This is a fun one! Not much to say except it was a peaceful listen
Fleet Foxes, but turn the lights down. Not something I can see myself ever really reaching for again in my life, but it was rather pleasant. Could make a good soundtrack to a movie, but is a bit too moody for real life. Maybe for a funeral.
Had more of a review, but something has been causing reviews to not submit for some reason.
Not a huge pop-punk fan, but this is up there in terms of best pop-punk albums after only one listen. Hayley Williams holds it down for sure.
A listless little adventure. Good, not great!
Catchy pop with a bit of that EDM twang. Fun to listen to, but won't impact my life for better or worse.
This has to be up there for coolest album ever. Easily a 4 from the start. Think it had just enough juice to give it the bump to 5. There just isn't a single blemish on here and I could easily reach for this as an instant mood booster.
I just listened to this a couple weeks ago on a random whim. Definitely bangs. Electric, grungy, unapologetic pop. Truly a unique sound.
Points also have to be given for just the cultural significance of brat summer that swept across the USA's 20-something gals, gays, and theys demographic. A pretty cool thing for a single album to become a craze like that in this day where the monoculture of music has completely shifted since the advent of streaming.
This was a really great album. One you can certainly kick back to.
Maybe I didn't understand why their hits were so popular, or maybe my music taste has just evolved over the last 3ish years, but I think I need to run through the Gorillaz discog. I feel like Kevin was tired of me saying I was a Gorillaz hater, but I will eat crow here and say this album ruled. I immediately want to listen to it again.
First time listener to Blonde. Have given Channel Orange a couple spins and haven't quite "got it" yet.
That said after just one listen I think I like Blonde a bit more as a whole. It really makes me want to listen to Ocean's two albums a few more times with more intention since I think I'm starting to get there.
Low side of 4 for now.
To me, Tool is a good listen every once in a while, but I can't think of a time in my life where I would ever really reach for Tool. It just meanders in a way that doesn't feel like it fits into most daily activities. Maybe it would be good music for waxing skis or an intense dishwashing session (lots of dishes).
Pretty similar review to Lateralus; good, but not 90 minutes good.
Pretty pleasant at times, but mostly on the boring side. Wasn't awful by any means, but I was looking for the final song about halfway through.
High 2.
Going Places was a standout.
This is an album that would have been better without the singer.
Another album that isn't bad, but I just was not engaged by it whatsoever.
High 2.
