Purple Rain
PrinceA little overrated - there are some weak songs.

Definitely outside of what I would normally listen to. I didn't even know who Lauryn Hill was. I liked it though - kind of a down tempo R&B album with rap and soul singers.
Pretty run of the mill late 70s R&B
Seems odd to pick an album from an artist way past his prime, and singing songs that aren't really like anything they would have normally done themselves.
definitely my type of music
I feel like there should only be one Nirvana album on this list, In Utero isn't that good, you only really 'need' Nevermind.
Pretty unique, I doubt I ever would have paid any attention to Ian Dury if it weren't for this list.
In general I haven't been too impressed with the David Bowie singles that I've heard and could never figure out what the big deal was, but this album was pretty good.
Possibly the best industrial album. I of course thought it was sort of a rebel album, but now that I read Al Jourgensen was pushing the NWOs death jab, I realize that it was a promotion album for the NWO - perhaps even sort of a ritual to bring it into affect, since this title comes from the works of Aleister Crowley. I mean, satanism is so cool, right? Regardless, it's still a good listen.
Blondie is right up my alley, and I guess this was their album that brought them mainstream success.
Probably, both The Police's and Sting's best album.
I don't think live albums should be on a must listen to list - oh well.
30th year anniversary edition is on spotify
I don't really think a cover album should be on this list. Also, I'd rather just listen to the original songs.
Why are there so many albums not from the prime of the artist's career in this list? The first song is experimental crap - made for his own liking. He called it the star symbol - I guess it's supposed to be the song 'blackstar', which probably has Luciferian or Satanic undertones, because it would be too much to ask pop stars to not be into that. Apparently, the rest of the album is going to sound like experimental crap, too. It gets a little better with the 3rd and 4th songs.
Well, this was already a 5 star album to me. I had high hopes for this band, but they haven't been super productive as Karen O I think wanted more of a solo career. At any rate, I hope they give us more.
I was expecting to not like it, as I'm not really a folk-rock kind of guy, but I do like down-tempo/ambient/trippy music which he seems to mix with folk-rock here. So, I ended up liking it.
I like punk/post-punk/new-wave/goth/etc music and so this is right up my alley - that said, the first almost half of the album is way better than the second half. It started to seem a bit repetitive. I think maybe it just goes on too long, and they should have refined it a bit more.
I wasn't really expecting to like this, 70s R&B is definitely not my thing, but I dug it anyways.
This album definitely has some cool sounds, but even though they call it 'break beat', I consider it an offshoot of techno - and like techno, it's overly repetitive.
sorry, kind of lame - definitely not as good as low
not bad, not great
Solid album, for me a greatest hits is probably better for me with a band like this. But I think if I were more of a fan of the Beach Boys that this album would really stand out.
It's hard to believe people really like this kind of 'singing'. I get the music though. Like too many rock and pop bands though - way too comfortable with satanic and Luciferian stuff.
a bunch of skips for me, and i sit through a lot...
What's with the goofy intros. And what a surprise a 'pop/r&b' album from the 2010s that I dont like. 2010s luciferian r&b is way worse than 90s gansta rap.
Good 1970s era classic folk rock, and I'm not really a general fan of folk rock. This is actually pretty great. Gonna have to give it some more serious listening.
I of course love the doors, and this is one of the best.
More tiresome techno, although i guess it's techniquely 'drums n bass' as he uses some different sounds on his computer than pure techno...". Overly repetitive, too long, could really use some vocals to keep up some interest. It could almost pass as ok chill music, but the drumns n bass aren't really chill.
An odd choice, seems like a deep cut - finding an album from very late in her career. Seems like an early album from her hay day in the 70s or 80s should have been included instead, but I really like it. Furthermore, I'm not really a country fan. This sounds more like it could be on an alternative rock list - though it is still quite folksy, and not very country in my estimation.
If you wanted a post-kroutrock, not quite industrial avante garde german album - this is for you! Otherwise, it sounds like someone's art project in sound. It was interesting enough, but I can't imagine someone saying oh I need to add this to my regular music rotation.
I liked it a lot, but I wish it was a bit less quirky.
Oh come on now, we all David Bowie is not really dead, and he's off in some underground city with the real Paul McCartney... In all seriousness, I thought it was pretty good.
