Added two songs to my playlist. Songs were either extremely generic or very experimental and it worked for a few songs to leave an impression but nothing major to freak out about. Likely a between a 5/10 and 7/10
I already have three songs off this album in my main playlist. While I skip them frequently, through each song this album is quite sound and had a clear, defined, and untouched style. Rating based on how much I enjoyed it and not its legacy, The novelty of screaming in as high of a pitch as possible hasn't aged well on many songs for me personally.
Fuck these guys, they're British, they keep talking about cricket and jam and I have never heard more unrelatable lyrics. They should have deleted everything Phenomenal Cat and after. I didn't outright hate any songs but they kind of all sounded the same, and i would never consciously listen to this album again. Added only Starstruck to my playlist, but I also enjoyed Picture Book, Johnny Thunder, Village Green, and Monica. The style grew on me, was worth the listen. Maybe a 4 or 5/10. All of this bands' good songs were re-recorded by actually good bands on modern equipment, but this handpicked album has none of those originals strangely so I wonder why it's even in this collection
I fucking love funky/jazzy bass and electric guitar. It's like the one good excuse for weird ass flow and a way for non traditional western music to be actually good. Didn't skip a single second of this album. Dont know what the fuck Bobby was wailing on about(triple entendre) but I think he's got a point. Might throw this shit on when I'm feeling silly. Strange, this really isn't music but whatever honestly it's the epitome of chill like that so close enough. 8.5-9/10
The nine inch nails sex album. Wow, amazing! Like a solid 7.5-8/10, it captures a lot of the right feelings, but I wouldn't put like 90% of these songs on in any other scenario though.
Broken Skin - 4.5/5 persona ahh soundtrack song
Letting Go - 4.6/5 holy
Homelands - 2.2/5 ??? some of the greatest and worst parts of the album
Pilgrim - 0.7/5 absolutely nothing good about this track
Tides - 2.5/5 bro found 3 samples and smashed them together, good for a lofi sound i guess. completely neutral
Nadia - 0/5 extremely annoying, i was getting angry listening to this
Immigrant - 1.4/5 disney's aladdin knockoff soundtrack song
Serpents - 0 I'm going to go insane if I have to keep listening to this shit album
Anthem Without Nation - 0.8/5 aimless, meaningless, singing is on a significantly different time signature then the background ambience
Nostalgia - 3.4/5 - HOLY SHIT!!! MUSIC!!! why did they cut the strings though? why so repetitive still?
The Conference - 0.4 ???????? it was kinda funny ig
Beyond Skin - 0.3/5 there is literally not music for half of it, but instead Oppenheimer
I've gone through every stage of grief listening to this. Get this toddler away from his DAW. I have heard real toddlers beating on drums completely randomly that can classify more as music then most of this garbage. 2.8/5 as an existentialism art piece, 1.2/5 as an album.
Ha ha i'm drowning - 3.4/5 groovy, but kinda shrill even the remaster
Sleeping Gas - 2.9/5 more groovy and slightly less shrill. Was a 3.5/5 until the last minute where it blasted out my ears with the same notes every 2 seconds
Treason - 4/5
Second Head - 4.2/5 was great probably my favorite thus far. added to playlist
Poppies - 3/5
Went Crazy - 3.3/5
Brave Boys Keep Their Promises - 2.4/5
Bouncing Baby - 3.6/5 I WAS A BOUNCING BABY!!!🗣️🗣️ I FELL DOWN!!!🗣️🗣️
Books - 3.5/5 Literally no idea what he's waffling on about
Thief of Baghdad - 2.5/5 please stop playing that riff im begging
When I Dream - 3/5 They added two minutes to this version, original was only 5 minutes. Rating would be higher if they shut the fuck up sooner, this ain't no free bird. Definitely something i skip at the 3 minute mark it destroyed itself.
Reward - 3.9/5 Grand and solid
I decided to listen only to the original 1980s tracklist which stops at "When I Dream". Also listened to Reward cause it was on the US version's release.
Songs seemed to be very repetitive because every measure was like one bar. Whole time the lengths of the songs were edging my anger and stopping right before i was gonna to do something about it. I'm very critical of songs that don't know when to shut the fuck up. Groovy album nonetheless. Remaster is actually really good because the original is very flat, muddy, and shrill. 3/5, would be a 2 or 1.5 if i ever had to listen to 95% of these songs ever again though. Done with the shitty pop cause this isn't really rock
Sun It Rises - 3.75/5 i LIKE IT
White Winter Hymnal - 4.25/5 actually really good
Ragged Wood - 3.8/5
Tiger Mountain Peasant Song - 2.8/5 much too simple, needs bass
Quiet Houses - 2.5/5 extremely repetitive
He Doesn't Know Why - 3.2/5
Heard Them Stirring - 3.2/5
Your Protector - 4.08/5
Meadowlarks - 3.7/5
Blue Ridge Mountains - 4.5/5 holy shit zack bryan??
Oliver James - 3/5
Good album. Completely torn between 3/5, and 4/5 overall, but leaning towards 4 because was very well crafted together and had some really good moments
Idk, it's jazz and it's okay ig
Excursions - 2.9/5
Buggin Out - 2.8/5
Rap Promoter - 2.4/5
Butter - 3.6/5
Verses from the Abstract - 3.6/5
Show Business - 2.7/5
Vibes and Stuff - 2/5
Infamous Date Rape - 1.9/5 actively didn't like lyrics or beat
Check the Rhymes - 3.2/5
Everything is Fair - 2.5/5 cool beat gets weird tho
Jazz - 2.7/5
Skypager - 3/5
What? - 3.2/5 all balls, no cock
Scenario - 2.7/5 here we go yo
Bro is ignoring the beat and extremely free rhymes. Clever lyricism and he keeps the flow but its "too chill" of rap. I really want to give this a 4/5 even though not a single song i rated above it just because together its actually pretty chill/nice as a whole, but ill stick with a 3/5
Red rain - 3.3/5
Sledgehammer - 2.9/5
Don't give up - 2/5 holy shit this has Kate Bush but like what the fuck it's not music
That voice again - 3.2/5
Mercy street 2.8/5 - intro sounds like burn by juice wrld lol. Wouldn't be surprised if it sampled this
Big time - 4/5
We do what we're told - 1.8/5 ? Dissonant, off timed, random atmosphere
This is the picture - 2.4/5 this feels like it should somehow be in a kids cartoon, yet feels like its alluding to very not family friendly things
In your eyes - 3.2/5 lion king ass love song???
Baba O'Riley - 4.3/5 yeah no this is one of those songs i "lost" at some point cause i've heard it a lot but not in a very long time.
Bargain - 4/5
Love Ain't for Keeping - 4.1/5 why is this the shortest one on the album and why am i begging an album from the 1970's to have a longer song for the first time?!?
My Wife - 3.5/5 should have beat his wife honestly fumbling this hard
The Song is Over - 2.8/5 i was in fact, hoping he wasn't lying when saying the song was over
Getting in Tune - 4/5
Going Mobile - 4.2/5 "BEEP BEEP!" 🗣️🗣️🗣️ This one just kept getting better
Behind Blue Eyes - 4.4/5 Holy shit i actually fucking love the Eagles sound radiating out of this one
Won't Get Fooled Again - 4.25/5 the very end gets so good with the scream
Remastered version once again does a significant justice to each track, bumping the overall scores compared to the originals. As an album this is like exactly a 4.5/5 for me, even if the scores don't average to that, very surprised at this one.
I made sure to listen to at least a minute of each song and I'm sorry but not only could this be less relatable to me but it just wasnt even allat. It's not anything pleasurable to listen to, and for a project collection of exclusivity western music it's already lied including this

i know who Bruce Springsteen is btw. but why is this shit in here. why did i never realize he's just like a "coolboy elvis" wannabe?
I love this style of pop, generally enjoyable and simply ahead of its time for the sounds it was able to produce without hitting that "sci-fi" or over the top synths 70's and 80's pop frequently hit.
enjoyed paper, cities, life during wartime, memories can't wait,
leaning like a 3.6ish/5, some major L's especially at the end and ones he didnt sing
These guys fucking love their spinning amp box chorus pedal thing. Enjoyed most parts
Serve the servants - 4.9/5 a very very strong opener
Scentless apprentice- 4.91/5 literally the best fucking drum intro ever
Heart shaped box - 4.97/5 I cant possibly find any flaws
Rape me - 4.91/5 i dont think mtv would let us play that
Frances Farmer... - 4.63/5
Dumb - 4.87/5 maybe just happy
Very Ape - 4.83/5 Wailing goes hard
Milk It - 4.85/5 What a perfect capture of dissonance being musical
Pennyroyal Tea - 4.89/5 the crazy echoflanger solo makes me want to spend $800 on my own
Radio Friendly... - 4.65/5? Intro and feedback are over the top but "WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?" 🗣️ 🗣️
Tourettes - 4.55/5 too short, HEYYY!!
All apologies - 4.98/5 so precise and gentile yet so sharp. Cellist on this album was THE call
I consider these from the later compilations of this album faithful:
Gallons of Rubbing... - 3.8/5 I enjoyed the bonus song "Endless Nameless" from nevermind more but it was an anomaly to the style of the rest of the songs on the album. This one holds the style better, but strays a little too much with dissonance to be considered musical at times. Vocals are also definitely only one take and not mixed or recorded to the same standards
Marigold - 4.1/5 it's a dave grohl demo, he wrote and performed everything but the bass so it's basically a foo fighters song. Not enough confidence/skill yet from
him though
Sappy - 4.92/5 Phenomenal "underground" song unless you bought this AIDS relief album or until the first box set. This guitar tone gives me chills and I would sell my first born to get it
Moist Vagina - 4.3/5 almost too dissonant for my liking at times, barely before that line. Almost felt aimless too. I love the vocal fry thing he does
I Hate Myself and Want to Die - 4.4/5 second most in utero sounding bonus song
Overall in my top 3 favorite albums overall, and without glazing an easy 4.9/5. I really really enjoyed doing a full in depth review finally.
Jacqueline - 4.05/5 quite shrill. i enjoyed the beginning though
Tell her tonight - 3.6/5 funky but repetitive and i don't like when it switched minor to major keys. I cant stand when songs do that
Take me out - 4.89/5 one of the few songs that pulls off a gradual tempo change correctly and in a way that sounds good.
The dark of the matinee - 4.41/5 wow how have I never heard this before
Auf Achse - 4.52/5 something about the build up to the explosive choruses hits so right. still shrill but not bad
Cheating on you - 3.79/5 so shrill i had to turn down and take away from the experience
This Fire - 4.48/5 cyberpunk
Darts of pleasure - 4.27/5 dont like the key change but i like the drums
Michael - 3.94/5 holy hell he's gay
Come on home - 4.37/5
40' - 4.26/5 solo is amazing
a controlled yet ever slipping chaotic symphony forged in rebellion. 4.3/5
One of the greatest grunge albums of all time. 4.7/5
