Such a great vibe through and through! Costello's sound is uniquely him while indulging in the pop rock/new-wave/punk sound. His sound it not meant to fit into the genre of Prog rock, as it follows a general formula that aids in keeping his sound true to the style. I'm defiantly adding at least half of this album to my punk/pop-rock playlist.
I am just going to start this off by saying- it's not bad, but holy shit Hotel California is overplayed. I am so damn tired of listening to Hotel California on the radio over and over again- and those who rate it highly, usually have hollow music taste. sorry. :/ the song 'Hotel California' leans the most heavily into the 'pop-surfer-rock' genre while toting the country rock genre. Not my steeze, but ill probably still sing to it just because its silly to make fun of. The rest of the album flops back and forth between the soft and the brash. I will give it credit for this diversity at best.
Very reminiscent of the BeachBoys Surfer-prog-rock, while leaning more into the 'Roll' in RocknRoll. Gives me pre-Straycat vibes too. Defiantly very big-boy-band era! I have a very hard time picking a favorite from the album because of how closely they stick to the rockabilly formula- not bad if thats what you are into!
Immaculate rhythm, hence why Curtis Mayfield sits in the R&B/Soul genres. Such an amazing use of instruments and composition. i feel groovy and sexy whenever i listen to his sound. I love how he creates such a lively, almost suspenseful, luxurious atmosphere. like following the tale of an international spy- but actually an undercover drug dealer.
oh Mr Mathers. You goofy ass mf. Its defiantly a very distinct, defining sound with so many added sound effects, almost like a music video or a wacky cartoon in my head while a angry lil white guy raps about shit that makes him angry (reasonable or not, he doesn't give a fuck). Stan always leaves such a eeary feeling behind as well. "Real Slim Shady' takes all fucks and throws em out the window with memorable catchy beats to keep the message ringing in your head regardless of what you think of the guy. Marshall Mathers & 'The Way I am' make sure to remind you hes just another guy.
Miles Davis fills my whole heart with the blues, I love the soft progression with the delicate usage of the usually booming brass. I could very easily smoke a joint to this while lounging or making dinner. the delicate piano takes me to my next destination like a businessman in the big city on this way to work.
Such a great flavor of pure English punk. Each song has a log of important messaging the reigns far ahead of its time. from London Calling to Lost in the Supermarket- i shoulda kept my eyes peeled for the dystopia we live in today. Catchy, fun and such a upbeat vibe
Ananda Shankar gives us the authentic melding of Western rock and electronic styles that was, and still is, needed desperately in music. Cultural melding into music is not done very often to this day and i couldn't've be happier to have heard this album. Rest easy Ananda Shankar
What a great imprint from the late nineties- There is a reason Bittersweet Symphony hit top charts all over the world and can still be heard today, i think many people forgot who the original band was (including myself until i was able to put 2&2 together). Nevertheless, i feel a great wave of nostalgia when listening to them, and i like a lot of the messaging in the lyrics as well.
House music in the 80s was just so much more lively than today (in my bias opinion) When things where so fresh and full of new ideas- no one knew what sounded good and bad- it was all just new tech and new sound! i love the raw creativity that isnt limited by todays reliable formulas. so simple but full of passion haha
Another great example of the creative and experimental 80's. Something that influenced us decades into the future through influence, sampling and even modern day memes 'YEAH BOIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII'- Flavor Flav. An interesting use of metrical complexity for sure!
This is a really interesting artistic, creative album. I notice the very blunt and robust rebellion found in fem-punk groups. This sound reminds me of The Slits from '79 and even Dazey and the Scouts in 2017. The shown forward aggression of being a girl, taking the stereotypical ideal of soft femininity- and throwing muck all over it. Very creative, real, & expressive
Merry Merry Christmas produced by a murderer! I fucking hate Christmas music. I understand the exact appeal and atmosphere it is trying to build and its just a mental high i cant maintain past a couple minutes of Christmas cheer, at least without a break. Nonetheless, this album gets points for being one of strikingly many worked on by the infamous Phil Spector. The groups in the line up arent bad at all, i just dont enjoy Christmassy music as a genre :)
Very meh, I don't really have any comments on it. Feels like a characters background music to me honestly
I actually really enjoyed the early 2000s musk that this albums creates- it's such an interesting approach on a mesh of genre. Definitely going to listen to more of their discography :)
Ya know how beck did a pretty good job at meshing genres? Linkin Park kinda just mashes the playdough together until it looks like something. Was this album a staple of the early 2010s for gaming and edgy teens alike? Yes. Is it something to be held to high musical prowess? Not really.
I am not a huge fan of this iteration of folk/country. I'd rather listen to Bob Dylan or Neil Young personally.
Wasnt bad honestly. i have a hard time categorizing this but i have to agree with the genre Pop-folk "put the lime in the coconut, drink 'em bot' up" reminds me of a more folk leaning R.Stevie Moore
earlier Led Zeppelin>over popularized later Zeppelin
I actually discovered this album sometime about a year and a half ago when researching R. Stevie Moore. I was curious where the new widely know sub genre of 'Lofi' actually came from. I stumbled across this Lofi-folk inspired album that felt just a little ahead for its time. it has nuances of early 1990s experimental without encapsulating the sound of high fidelity equipment like synths So cool to see this album and artist wrap back around!
'Blue Lines blended elements of hip hop (such as breakbeats, sampling, and rapping) with dub, soul, reggae, and electronic music.' I couldn't've agreed more! I mostly enjoy this for atmosphere while doing a task, cleaning, drawing or entertaining. I love the mix of sound and massive array of sampling that lays CLEAN on top of a nice soulful beat.
This was a very interesting album- at first I wasn't expecting much of it, but I noticed a couple of references that went almost completely over my head- Achtung is German for Attention! Also, this album is what inspired the JJBA character Shizuka Joestar! Very cool lil references right there. Overall it wasn't bad. I'd add a few to my playlist :)
A phenomenal albums that so many people forget about exists! Smoke on the water is legendary, sure- but what about SPACE TRUCKIN?? This whole album is what I would show a friend who doesn't enjoy rock to turn them immediately!
there is an excerpt from Spotify that says this band embraced the identity of being called 'The Southern Strokes', and i kinda hear it? the style of composition is similar in some ways, but lacking the electronic incorporations that The Strokes bring. not my groove honestly. feels like 3 day old popcorn. its aight, you know, your still gonna eat it.
I really enjoyed the atmosphere and clean beats as well as diversity throughout the album, great for almost any occasion in my opinion.
This was a very beautiful experience, reminded me of the recent Mr. morale & the Big Steppers by Kendrick Lamar. It's very personal and has very intimate personal accounts of love, self acceptance and growth. The interesting incorporation of live audience input brings a level of innocence and genuine human connection. Definitely a beautiful album
Yeah this wasn't my cup of tea really at all. It's aight, kinda just sounds like someone's unfinished beats they decided to publish.
This was a very interesting album and I got to learn more about Jangle pop rock. I've never known how to describe this sound without saying 'rock'. Not a bad album at all!
I think we all know why we are here. Imagine. I will say, i do think Crippled Inside is a funny lil tune to add to my playlist titled "upbeat songs with really depressing lyrics" Other than that, the album in whole didnt leave too much of an impression on me. not bad though, i mean cmon- its john lennon!
A classic heavy rock album, featuring a very popular metal song that no one remembers is Pantera, 'Walk' A staple flavor of the 1990s heavy rock genre
Oh, you pretty thing! in my personal opinion, a really solid example of art-pop-rock, especially for its time. Bowie constantly pushed the narrative- especially in Changes because if his unique perspective on Nietzschean philosophy.
TRICKY TRICKY TRICKAAY
a groovy example of good 1990s rap, quite a sleeper album mentioning its one-hit-wonder 'Can I Kick It?' i did enjoy the narratives and the bars are smooth :)
Who knew Brazilian heavy metal existed? I didn't, I enjoyed some of the more progressive orchestration throughout the album, and for the most part, enjoyed it. Some of it felt a little generic, but i attribute that opinion to my own taste personally.
RANDY YOU CANT S A Y THAT MAN WHAT THE FUCK!
A very interesting, experimental experience from the psychedelic Jimi Hendrix- this album felt very loose and full of potential for future ideas!
Awful.
the primordial soup to what we know and love as The Gorillaz. you can hear the sketches of their later discography all through the album. The whole thing feels very experimental and lo-fidelity to an extent, not the genre.
I love being flushed down the toilet of your heart :)
A beautiful ambient mesh of tango with a flair of mixed samples and beats.
very cool shoegaze esk alternative rock vibes, super cool melodies too!
