this album prompting me to revisit my rating ethos. because I am so predisposed to love it, obviously, but it’s definitely not my favorite pixies album! I can’t really fault it and I really enjoy it but does it make me jump and shriek in glee…not totally. so for now on 5 stars = not only perfect to me but also extremely personally engaging and thrilling. I stand by all my previous 5 stars and recognize that in this case the pixies are sadly being penalized for being familiar to me. we’ll see if I can stick to this 🙏

read an art history book once that talked about how hard it is to have an authentic emotional reaction to the Mona Lisa or in fact to even really see the Mona Lisa because it’s so prevalent in culture your idea of it is always between you and the painting. that’s kind of how I feel about this album. hard to even imagine hearing it for the first time. would it feel touching, would it feel tender, would it feel corny? would it sound like a particular season or time of day? I don’t know! but she’s clearly very skilled!

I really like assessment and out-side and thought the rest was O K!
