Abbey Road by Beatles
Jan 03 2024

I think this might be my favorite Beatles, maybe just in front of Revolver. I Want You (She's So Heavy) is pretty much a Black Sabbath song, probably a good example of one of the first early metal songs. I love the medley on the second half. I think it's funny because it's pretty much Paul being like "look at how great a songwriter I am" - most of the medley is this super tightly written piece, you can tell that Paul is going to continue to have an amazing career post-Beatles, and BAM the two Lennon songs in the medley are probably the coolest songs in it. I think this is kind of the vibe for their entire writing partnership.

Midnight Ride by Paul Revere & The Raiders
Jan 04 2024

Felt like they were exploring all the sounds of the popular bands of the era. Definitely has some catchy and good songs. I thought "Melody For an Unknown Girl" was a pretty cool concept / song idea.

The Nightfly by Donald Fagen
Jan 05 2024

Sounded to me like a more whimsical / lighthearted Steely Dan. Really dug it. On Spotify the loudness of the tracks vary so much you have to really adjust your volume. Re-mastering or mastering mistake?

White Blood Cells by The White Stripes
Jan 09 2024

I do think it is objectively awesome but not entirely my cup of tea. I do like the lo-fi garage sound. Most of the songs are pretty similar blues revival ideas. Fell In Love With A Girl, the biggest hit, seems like an outlier on the album in terms of style. I think it would have been really cool to see them live during this time period.

Come Away With Me by Norah Jones
Jan 10 2024

I like it, it is clearly very good, I just can never picture myself in the mood for this kind of thing. Which is funny because I'd be really into just hearing the backing band for a whole record.

Disraeli Gears by Cream
Jan 18 2024

I generally dig it, appreciate it, but not entirely in love - probably need more time with it!
