Released between Kid A/Amnesiac and In Rainbows, Hail to the Thief is often overlooked. The album has a bit of bloat and many of the songs aren't immediately recognizable. However, this album still stands out in Radiohead's discography, as many of the tracks are insanely creative with the instrumentation, lyricism, and meanings behind them. The album has a bleak, depressing vibe, utilizing minor chords, harmonizing vocals, and calmer drums, which contrast and add to the moments in the tracks when everything picks up, exploding into a fast-paced, musically superb finale.
Clean as hell catchy ass beats, each rapper on this album has their own distinct style and flow but they all come together to create such a diverse sound (Ms Lauryn Hill EATS). The production on this album is also wonderful, the beats too are diverse from other albums from around this time, taking inspiration from jazz and reggae. This album also has a ton of social commentary for around the time, with lyrics and entire songs about racism and discrimination in America, violent crime, poverty, and toxic masculinity/gangster culture. I am sure this will not be the only time I hear Lauryn Hill during these 1001 albums, or even the Fugees in general. Even as a 17 year old white boy with no connection to any of these lyrics or themes, I can tell how much of an affect this album had when it came out.
Great first half, some of the tracks of the second drag for a little too long or just are not as strong. However, this album is immaculate and I cannot believe how long it has taken for me to listen to Janelle Monae. They are a genuine artist with so many strong suits, especially musically. This album is an 18-track space opera epic which delves into social commentary about revolutions, oppressive governments, and liberation. The songs have such a strong groove, and I found myself being completely stunned by how great these songs are.
It's definitely not my thing. I can see why people love it so much but for me, while I enjoyed what i heard, it's nothing i would put back on to listen to.
one of the greatest rock albums of all time. every track is a banger and it never loses its energy and artistic talent. Led Zeppelin will go down as the greatest rock band ever. 'nuff said
As a white boy, I do not feel as though I am qualified enough to speak on the actual meaning and content behind this album. However, the production quality is out of this world, that bass throughout the entire album slaps so fucking hard, the lyrics are powerful and the way they are delivered is great, and there are so many tracks I have already added to my playlist. Very good and I very much enjoyed what I listened to.
this album fucks
first ever frank zappa album and certainly not the last. the sounds from this album are immaculate and each instrument played their parts incredibly. notable highlights were the drums and bass, they kicked ass. I love the different genre fusions this album has, it has parts hard rock, jazz, funk, and pure noise. fuckin great
After listening through about 3 times I finally get it and I can say this album is pretty decent. Some doesn't work for me, but it has some extremely strong highs where I can listen in awe to how great the music is. I love the feeling of this album, and Tom Waits's work in general, delving into the middle class underbelly of society. I love how his voice complements this theme, although it does get out of hand in some instances. The blues poetry feel is amazing at some points and extremely hard to listen to at others. Overall, more positives than negatives, but it is weighed down significantly by those negatives.
love me some afro-beat. fucking great jazz album
fucking love this album. i love psychedelic rock and this set of tracks encapsulates it perfectly.
I love me some Curtis Mayfield and this album proves why. Love the feel and vibe, and the social commentary is a welcome inclusion.
fuck yea
shit was cool as hell to listen to while studying. very atmospheric. not really too much else i have to say, not spectacular, but not bad either.
i just don't like it that much. some tracks get up to decent for me but it's just not a genre i enjoy. i think the lyrics kinda fuck it up for me, both his voice and what he's actually saying. instruments sound nice but it's a lil muddled with so many things going on.
GREAT ALBUM
not my thing.
