Green Onions (the song) is a classic, but if you've heard that one you've essentially heard most of the others on this album as well since they follow the same tone/vibe. While I normally like instrumental albums to be a little more involved or flashy, I could definitely see this album spinning on a turn table on a relaxed summer evening while cooking some dinner.
I tried, but I just can't get past the nails on chalkboard vocals. I just can't do it. I appreciate the punk instrumentals and what they did for the scene but I just can't stand this album.
to me this one feels like an early/undercooked radiohead album - not to say i didnt enjoy it, just that it wasn't really my jam. There are some standouts but also a lot of songs that just kind of float in one ear and out the other for me.
While Debbie Harry's vocals aren't really my favorite, this album is a 70's classic and my mom would kill me if I didn't like it. I think there's A LOT of good stuff in this album that most of the punk bands I know and love today owe to Blondie and their style.
GY!BE Icelandic version???? I can't understand the lyrics but the instrumentals and overall vibe is just spectacular in this one. Really enjoyed this.
While the lyrics are interesting and warm guitar tones aplenty, I don't really find myself fully drawn into Elliot Smith's voice. Would maybe see myself coming back to this one at some point, but probably rarely.
2.5
Absolute banger - Just as good as her hot ones interview. Would be a perfect 5 but I'm not a big fan of the first 2 songs. Either way, love this one
Top of the line jazz album, such great vibes all around.
Pretty good overall - kind of reminds me of a big blend of arctic monkeys, killers, and maybe two door cinema club a little? Either way, its solid and I could see myself coming back to this at some point as an entire album listen instead of just listening to Take Me Out.
It's OK Computer, I'm basically obligated to give it a 5.
I'm still not super into noise rock, but I dig some songs on this one. It was pretty front loaded for me though as I didn't care much for the songs at the end. I could see myself maybe coming back to this one
2.5
pretty indifferent on this one. its alright
I like steely dan, but pretzel logic is pretty middle of the road for me.
Fun and classic rock at its best - I think Who's Next is still a lot better IMO
yeah i won't be listening to this
middle of the road on this one 2.5
I am a R.E.M. hater - sue me
interesting and pretty out there for 1999. Definitely gives me some jam band vibes but in a weird jazz electronic sense
its not bad, but im always confused as to how people really get into this. Seems pretty run of the mill oldies music to me.
Hard to rate this one - there are some parts when its really captivating and interesting, and others where it seems to be a bit drawn out. An interesting listen nonetheless and I could see myself maybe coming back to this at some point
Great Steely Dan record. This and Can't Buy A Thrill are easily my favorites.
I don't know how to explain this other than a weird mix of coldplay and the killers maybe? Who knows. Either way, I really liked it. The album cover sucks though.
Pls i beg you, stop giving me R.E.M. albums
While In Utero is a huge milestone for grunge and rock music in general, I think I enjoy nevermind a bit more. The fuzz and song writing is a bit more polished. But I will say there are some absolute must listens on this one like Heart Shaped Box and Dumb just to name a few.
Most prog rock is hit or miss with me these days - I can get into some of the jams on this album but a lot of it is pretty forgettable to me.
while better than the sex pistols, i just can't stand john lyndon.
Its alright. I can get into the grooves on this one but theres a decent amount of fluff on this one that goes in one ear and out the other.
It's alright, but its no Harvest Moon. Neil Young itches that bit of old school folkish vibe in my brain, but I do find his voice to be a bit grating after a while.
Very groovy and flowy melodies. I know the name has sunshine in it, but I could see myself really vibing with this on a rainy day in Spring/Summer.
This album gives me 70's high school vibes or even like summer at the beach surfing. Elvis' voice is super forward and just has that perfect 'tang' to it that pulls you into each song, each crescendo - its great. I do think this album is a very specific listen where I'd need to be in the mood for it in order to really enjoy it, but it hit the spot today.
I may have been wrong about LCD Soundsystem in college after hearing "Dance Yourself Clean" - I did enjoy this album albeit slightly repetitive on some tracks. The grooves and unpolished vocals give it a nice indie feel.
Old soul/funk is always a good time.
Old school hip hop has never really been my thing but I can appreciate this album from a history standpoint and how it really kicked off an entire huge genre of music.
I know it's not the popular opinion, but I do like Good Kid Maad city a tad more than Butterfly. While the song writing and lyrical genius is on full display in butterfly I just find some of the songs not as catchy or exciting as some of Kendricks other stuff. With that being said, this album is SO good and one of my favorite rap albums for sure. Gotta give it a 4 since Good Kid is still my top though
Not necessarily bad, just not for me.
I think had you asked me to rate this album when I was younger I would have given it a pretty good 4 star review - Slipknkot was relatively big news for my corner of the music world. But as I've gotten older and changed to other types of metal I come to realize its a little bland at times. There are still some diamonds on this album like psychosocial and snuff, but most of the other songs are pretty forgettable.
Thank you, Kate Bush - very cool!
Its alright but gets a little drab at points
really interesting song production on these. I think the emotions on the entire album gets a little ambiguous to me at times, but I really like the overall style. Could definitely see myself revisiting this one!
3.5, but I'll round up to 4 cause there are some real gems on this one
Can You Forgive Her and Liberation are both great, but the rest just felt like I was listening to an abandoned Jazzercise mixtape
I had actually never listened to an MGMT album in full before this and was not surprised in any way that this album would be a banger. Lots of great tracks and pretty much every song is so catchy.
It's hard for me to relate my feelings on this one. While I enjoy the theatrics and songs on this, none of it really blows me away like it does for many. I think it may just be a generational thing, or at least a time thing, where it will just take a bit for Bowie to grow on me. I know its a concept album but half the time I have zero clue what he is on about lol. All of that aside, I really appreciate this album for its out of the box thinking for an album from 1972. Crazy to think about that. I will revisit Bowie for sure and I think this will grow on me. But for now, a 3.
Odd time to get this one generated for me - RIP Ozzy :( Not sure what took me so long to get around to listening to these guys, but they have some awesome stuff.
Live albums are cool, but I don't think I get the full effect since I haven't heard their other stuff beforehand. Either way this has some great riffs and high energy.
First two tracks were fun and I enjoyed the jam band sesh, but the final track Bel Air was kind of a slog. Didn't really enjoy that one and its 20 minutes which is like half of the album.
I know I'm in the minority on this one, but its just too grating. Most 90's stuff is hit or miss, and while this one has some catchy lyrics and fun basslines, the singing is just not my vibe. Sorry Miss Morissette
Pretty inoffensive - nothing that really stood out or blew me away, but also nothing that I didn't like.
