1001 Albums Summary

I enjoyed this. Undoubtedly of its time - synth drums and the global music which Paul Simon and David Byrne embraced around the same time. But I had never heard it before (or don't remember it), and the songs made my commute pleasant 42+ years after they were recorded.

I appreciate this, but didnt love it. Maybe it was my environment - trying to work and listen simultaneously. Seems like it might benefit from multiple listenings. But there are 1000 other albums!

This album makes me so nostalgic. I spent so many late nights writing college papers listening to this on repeat. Soothing melodies and a beautiful, haunting voice.

I know Zappa was a genius with perfect pitch, amazing musical talent, and just super smart. But his music always makes me feel like I’m doing homework. I should be paying more attention, getting more of the references. I’m not having fun, I’m not enjoying it.

I enjoyed this. Had heard of Billy Bragg, never really listened to him before. Good album (esp Disc 1). A minimal set of instruments, but the music and lyrics often move in unexpected ways. Good stuff.

I had high hopes starting out. But soon found it repetitive: drum, bass, jangly elec guitar. Yes, there are songs that are very different, but my overall takeaway is a lot of the same. Others have done it better or at least more entertainingly, esp the speak-singing (early Talking Heads, B-52s). And OMG: 43 songs!

I just can’t. Certainly an archetype of the time and and sound. But too twangy, too repetitive for me. One of the few albums I outright stopped listening to.

I mostly enjoyed this.

Music that’s on its face difficult to listen to. Ok, mbv, you win. You are difficult. A few songs less difficult than others. But still, there are like a thousand other albums to listen to.

Love some Nick Cave. Lots of soulful lyrics. I would have enjoyed some variety in style and beats.

This was surprising and enjoyable. His voice kept reminding me of late Lou Reed.

Great album. A mix of punk and rock that you don't need to be 15 years old to appreciate.

This may be a little heretical, but is this a little too nice? I mean this Steamroller Blues is one of the most polite versions of the song. He makes the phrase "a hefty hunk of steaming junk" sound purely descriptive wrt a demolition derby car. Still, James Taylor. The '70s almost literally began with this album.

Enjoyable punk / ska mix. Never heard of this band before.

Surprisingly more mellow and less compelling than expected.

Supposedly what happens in the mind of someone in a drug induced coma. There's a lot of bass and drums happening in that coma dream. Well produced but also off-putting.

More enjoyable than expected, and much more mellow. a lot of spoken word.

wow. This was an unexpected, happy surprise. Great music. Almost feels like EDM from time to time, but seems like natural instruments. Even the guitar heavy songs are nice vs cacophonic.

X (they knew 'X' was cool before Elon) is always hit or miss with me the song and the mood I'm in. Some melodic, some hardcore. If I'm in the mood, great, but otherwise not always persuasive to keep me listening.

Still great. Listening to the full album for first time in years, I was surprised by the strength of piano throughout the album. One often thinks of Springteen as guitar and horns.
