Popular Reviews

Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots by The Flaming Lips

Some funny stories, influenced by Japanese culture. Sounds are interesting and "futuristic", but you have to get through Wayne Coyne's falsetto voice.

3 Feet High and Rising by De La Soul

Pot holes on my lawn. Fun sing along 90s hip hop. I miss this era of rap music. Creative samples and scratching

Arrival by ABBA
Apr 26 2024

The hits power the album. The harmonies are on high over top of piano and synths, with touches of electric guitar. The production is great and would have been a gen in true mid-70s.

Superunknown by Soundgarden
Apr 29 2024

Been there and done that. Like all Soundgarden, the music is often overshadowed by Chris' voice which tweeters on 80s hair metal. When he keeps it low and under control, you have some of the best grunge from the 90s.

Apr 30 2024

Gangsta rap gold. Here is the turning point of rap/hip hop. This was straight up shocking and controversial creating a benchmark for the genre. Dr. Dre made it so damn catchy while spitting along to the lyrical assault and battery.

The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths
May 01 2024

Well, Morrissey isn't regarded as one the great song writers for nothing. But it's Johnny Marr that keeps the attention with simple, yet beautiful guitar melodies. When you're hooked on the hooks and intrigued by the lyrics, you're probably listening to The Smiths or a band influenced by The Smiths (or The Cure). The Queen is Dead is the epitome. "I Know It's Over" is a classic.

We Are Family by Sister Sledge
May 02 2024

Over powered by the over played We Are Family single. 70s RnB/Disco

The Velvet Underground by The Velvet Underground
May 03 2024

If Jane's Addiction had parents, The Velvet Underground would be them. Lou Reed is as talented as he is eclectic. Elements of blues, rock,, folk experimental ... They would have been my favourite band in the late 60s

May 06 2024

Parachutes was an excellent album despite the overplayed pop Anthem, Yellow. When n My Place was dropped, and AROBTTH was announced, many wondered if Coldplay could follow up with an equally stellar album. They did. The sounds are more extensive and polished.. More than a Brit Pop banger, this album set them a part from their peers and sent them to worldwide stardom.

Station To Station by David Bowie
May 07 2024

The songs on S2S are cinematic, while Bowie delivers with operatic power. Like much of his work, the music and vocals dont align.

Nebraska by Bruce Springsteen
May 09 2024

An acoustic short-story book. Each track tells a compelling story echoing blue collar America.

Violent Femmes by Violent Femmes
May 10 2024

The tone is set with the opening bars on the album. Eclectic post-punk.

Rubber Soul by Beatles
May 13 2024

Crafted pop by the masters of pop rock Sunday afternoon brunch for the ears.

Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots by The Flaming Lips
May 14 2024

Some funny stories, influenced by Japanese culture. Sounds are interesting and "futuristic", but you have to get through Wayne Coyne's falsetto voice.

...And Justice For All by Metallica
May 15 2024

Metallica is 80s thrash metal. 4 straight bangers ftom 1983 to 1988, each one getting more and more polished. This one features "One", their legendary metal ballad, allowing 'bangers to embrace their soft side.

Exile On Main Street by The Rolling Stones
May 16 2024

Without this album, so many bands wouldn't exist. A blueprint for making rock n roll. Blues, country, rock,.. You'll forget that your listening to a British band

Aja by Steely Dan
May 20 2024

Jazz/rock perfectionists

16 Lovers Lane by The Go-Betweens
May 23 2024

While they sound slightly dated now, this album was ahead of its time. They made a 90s record in the 80s

Maggot Brain by Funkadelic
May 27 2024

So ahead of its time. Maggot Brain is a psychadelic, cosmic anthem.

Veckatimest by Grizzly Bear
May 30 2024

Solid piece of art rock. Well crafted. I like Shields better, but solid.

Real Life by Magazine
May 31 2024

Post punk gem. Lots of synths before they became popular

3 Feet High and Rising by De La Soul
Jun 03 2024

Pot holes on my lawn. Fun sing along 90s hip hop. I miss this era of rap music. Creative samples and scratching

Wild Gift by X
Jun 05 2024

Solid all the way through, like most of their work. I always felt they were a big influence on Pixies.

Abbey Road by Beatles
Jun 10 2024

Classic. So many styles to influence thousands that came after

The Visitors by ABBA
Jun 12 2024

Do you like ABBA? Do you like 80s pop? Here's your album

Heaven Or Las Vegas by Cocteau Twins
Jun 13 2024

Shoegaze pioneers that influenced the likes of Beach House, St. Vincent and all

Now I Got Worry by The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
Jun 14 2024

Scuzzy, fuzzy, blues rock

Jun 20 2024

A kaleidoscope of sound aligned with Britpop. Opening track is powerful. The Richard Hawley track is burlesque

A Short Album About Love by The Divine Comedy
Jun 21 2024

Coldplay has residency on The Love Boat. Sounds like Mike Flowers is trying to make something substantial

Out Of The Blue by Electric Light Orchestra
Jun 24 2024

70s, psychadelic rock

Either Or by Elliott Smith
Jun 25 2024

Meh.

Green by R.E.M.
Jun 26 2024

Original, polished, college music of late 80s

1999 by Prince
Jul 01 2024

You blinded me with 80s

Blunderbuss by Jack White
Jul 02 2024

Polished White Stripes

Scream, Dracula, Scream by Rocket From The Crypt
Jul 03 2024

Born in '69, On a Rope... a mid-90s, post-pink gem...with horns

Bubble And Scrape by Sebadoh
Jul 04 2024

A little too long on the indie video. Bakesale is better

Step In The Arena by Gang Starr
Jul 05 2024

Early work by smooth, intelligent rap pioneers

Sign 'O' The Times by Prince
Jul 08 2024

Prince ages like milk. The music doesn't stand up to those of his peers. Artists like U2, INXS, Michael Jackson, George Michael, The Cure, Depeche Mode,, Guns n Roses, etc all released music in 1987 where most, if not all, still stand up today. His voice is still Prince, but the music is so outdated and would not consider it an album that one must hear.

Blonde On Blonde by Bob Dylan
Jul 09 2024

The Duck Face cover. Blues can be done by a white Jewish kid... And his harmonica.

Aftermath by The Rolling Stones
Jul 11 2024

Stones,.
