I came into this excited because I've only ever listened to like a rolling stone. I won't say i'm disappointed but I'm a bit underwhelmed. That being said, when there was a good song it was very nice to listen to :)
Favourite song: Highway 61 revisited
I thought I was gonna like this from the first track but it was downhill from there. Take it as it comes was a good breath of fresh air but it couldn't save this album for me.
Favourite song: Take it as it comes
Overall a great album! Some fun and upbeat tracks that uplifted my mood but didn’t overstay their welcome either. The only reason this isn’t 5 stars is because the genre of this just isn’t something I can enjoy on THAT deep of a level. Great job Elvis Costello 💲.
Favourite song: Mystery dance
A pretty middle of the road Britpop album (which I like). Bittersweet symphony was the only song really trying to do anything different and the slower songs kinda suck but still very good. 🚗
Off to a good start with blister in the sun but overall I found the vocal style kind of jarring. I liked some of the bits that were a bit spoken word adjacent though. Some of the lyrics were a bit dodgy as well.
Favourite song: Blister in the sun
Honestly it was better than I thought it would be... but that's still not great. Just not really my cup of tea. I liked some of the growls though.
Favourite song: The number of the beast
Maybe I just like listening to abrasive noises ðŸ˜. This was really cool to listen to and I love the album cover.
Favourite song: Mildred pierce
Pretty middle of the road album for me. No standouts but not really any bad songs either. Overall pretty good.
Favourite song: time after time
This album makes me feel like I'm an 80 year old man who wears leather jackets and smells like cigarettes... and that's not a good thing. I feel like with this album there was either too much going on or not enough with no in between. I can respect jazz but this just didn't connect with me.
Favourite song: duet
To be perfectly honest, I thought I would hate this, but it was actually kinda vibey. I found it so funny when I pressed play on the first song and he like personally greeted me to the album (that was the highlight) and I think that should become the standard with all albums now cuz its so funny.
Favourite song: introduction and theme
So much fun!! All of the songs are different in some ways be it either instrumentation or vocal style but it doesn't seem all over the place. I also liked some of the slower songs on this which I sometimes tend to not enjoy. Overall very good!
Favourite song: Early in the morning
Pretty middle of the road for me when it comes to punk albums. Like most of the punk I listen to, I like the instrumentals and the production itself but find the vocals annoying and irritating and this album was no exception.
Favourite song: Sunglasses after dark
That’s what I said when the queen died 😢
Good samples. Good rapping. Good album. I like how he dedicated an entire track to just have a British lady endorse him without any background music.
A nice breath of fresh air from everything else. Smooth and chilled out. Good instrumentation and vocals.
I wish all the songs sounded like take five cuz I really like that song 😞
I thought the Rolling Stones were meant to be good ðŸ˜
i wouldn't like to meet the kind of people who like this stuff...
Some of the hooks were ok but it was filled to the brim with dodgy lyrics or production choices that put a bad taste in my mouth.
A HUGE upgrade from the other album I listened to. Some really good songs on here and his voice grew on me by the end of it.
Pretty cosy feeling album. Nothing much else to say.
Loretta. Go to marriage therapy cuz writing an album in spite of your spouse is NOT THE WAY TO GO. You’ve gotta diversify your lyrics more too.
The thing that makes this album so great is that I can never tell if it's meant to be happy or sad.
Some songs are uplifting like "pink moon" and "from the morning.
But one thing every song on this album has is an overall sense of melancholy, throughout every track. It's clear that his mental space had a huge influence on how this turned out, and it creates such a powerful emotive feeling for the listener, without having any flashy instruments or vocal gymnastics.
That being said, the guitar work is incredible on this album. This album probably has my favourite guitar out of any piece of music honestly.
His lyrics are sometimes contemplative, other times downright devastating, making this overall such a meaningful album, even after listening countless times.
Favourite song: Place to be
I was so happy that there was finally an electronic album but as soon as I pressed play on the first track and I heard a drumnbass beat I knew that my excitement was for nothing. The thing is, some of the songs were actually really good like the title track but the beat just ruined the whole thing for me. So much wasted potential 😣
Typical 90s goodness 😋
Good album. Nice to listen to when it was still dark outside but I feel like some of the bird progressions could have been more effective if they get didnt veer off into the blues or country directions but that’s just a pet peeve.
Pretty good. Vibey. I like a message to you Rudy but other than that nothing really stood out.
The hype of the crowd got me hyped and I actually kinda liked a lot of the stuff but then they started doing too much and it started giving me a headache.
It’s kinda just like the deep purple album I just listened to but more modern.
all of the songs on this literally sound the same. even the lyrics.
Pretty good. Nice variety and good samples. I like it.
it was ok I guess but in every song there was this weird sound at the back of my headphones. it ight be the headphones I was listening on but it was all i could hear and I rlly didn't like it it stressed me out.
This was really nice to listen to on a sunny Friday afternoon. I think some Bowie albums definitely have the potential to be a 5 for me but this one falls just short.
I never knew I needed a sitar cover of light my fire until now.
I wish bohemian like you was on this album 😢. Still rlly good tho I like it.
Is this the only talking heads album without a song that I’ve heard before ðŸ˜
Bono more like BoYES
Bono is so wise
Ig they heard me when I said I wanted a Talking Heads album with one of their hits on it.
I was not disappointed.
I liked the actual sound of the album but I found the mixing to be a little weird
Probs my favourite Bowie album
It was about time I listened this it was SOSOSOSOS GOOD
This was REALLY CLOSE to being a 5
